Description

We slept here on our way back from Alstrom Point.
It is a flat big spot right before crossing the creek on NP230.
The spot it is very quiet after dark. Just a few cars passed by in the early morning.

The road to Alstrom Point is not as bad as we were told at the BLM information office. We drive a VW Vanagon and could make it up to 2 miles before the point.
The difficulties on the road could be:
- the creek at the very beginning, which was almost dry when we crossed it, but had much more water in the morning
- the last 5 miles have some sand on the road. It was completely dry when we drove it, so it was kinda easy, but could be worst if wet
- the last 2 miles have rocks and are suitable only for 4WD cars, but we easily walked them.
We drove this road in the dry season so conditions were quite good even for a 2WD. If wet probably suitable only for 4WD.

Latest Check-Ins

Quite a few spots to camp. We chose to not cross the river and had a good night in an OKAY spot. Dusty and some OHV heading up and down the river. Would not stay here longer than necessary. No ATT. Easy access for any size rig.

Great flat spot for a few nights, we had neighbors coming and going (and some ATVs passing by), but quiet overall.
We didn't dare going across the river with our 2WD Sprinter Van, as there was a fair bit of water and we weren't sure about mud / sand / traction (or lack of). Tones of cars / trucks did go through though.

Report Check-In

There is a smoothed out entry to this spot where any size rig can get in.

There's construction going on at the road next to this site. It makes it near impossible to get into due to the 6' drop off from the road to the site. Maybe a camper van couple squeeze in, otherwise you'll need to back the rig up to get out of there. The road coming into this location from Big Water (NP-230) is sloped and continues downhill with no place to do a turnaround.
There is a large gravel area just before this one that has a couple established fire rings. It's a much better place for big rigs.

Really nice level area with room for several vehicles. Less wind and dust than Nipple Bench where we tried but it was just a windy day.

lugar muy tranquilo, pasamos una noche en soledad

very quiet place, we spent a night alone

Report Check-In

Great little flat spot by a creek. We spent two nights here in our 38' school bus and it was great. I was worried about getting the bus stuck in the creek (she weights 8.5 tons and hangs out 11 feet past the rear axle) so we didn't chance the crossing in the bus but it was no problem with our little Toyota highlander. We had hoped to make it out to Alstrom Point but as it turns out, it is a further 35 miles down a pretty rough road (from the gps pin) so we stopped and hiked at mile 7 at the Wiregrass Trail (very cool hike/scramble, it turns into a pretty deep canyon that seems to go forever, although we only followed it down for about 3 miles before we turned around).
