Description
Be aware during winter months (may 1st to August 30th) the pass is only open from 8:00 to 18:00.
If weather conditions are bad expect long delays.
As of today we are waiting in line, expected to open at 9:00. Even if the weather is good here in the Chilean side, sunny and no wind, it’s reported to be white wind snow and frozen pavement up in the other side of the pass.
Plan accordingly.

Keep in mind that this road from sans Pedro to the east is very steep, very high and in Spring summer very hot. Lot of people have engine / radiators issues here . This pièce of road have Such a hard réputation that some car brand come here for some tests, and trucks only drive on the morning. So if your car is a bit old or not prepared for this, think twice and drive early.
