Chile > Argentina

1. Immigration: for the first time while entering Argentina we were asked for the exact address where we will be staying even if we said we were in a motorhome. Used the name of a campground in Bariloche.

2. Aduana - gave us a 3-month TIP after we said we stay two months.

3. Senasa - Fruit and veggies check - asked about fruit, meat, etc. Had some opened frozen fruit which was confiscated. A much stricter control compared to precious entries to Argentina.

4. Vehicle inspection - our vehicle was inspected for food and fishing gear. I had the feeling that every vehicle was briefly inspected regardless if camper or not.

Important: if you have fishing gear or water equipment you need a disinfection certificate from Chile. So be prepared.

After the border toward RN40 the first 10-15 km are unpaved and after that paved, excellent condition.

Argentina > Chile. Reasonably busy border, given that it's quite remote. Exiting Argentina with a UK-registered motorcycle took more time than it should (mainly due to queues). When you enter the border area, stop at the first booth and get the little tracking slip of paper. Immigration and Customs will each stamp this, and you need to show it to exit the area. There was a massive queue of cars coming the other way from Chile.

Report Check-In

The last part (10km) of the road on the Argentinian side (Ruta 60) is unpaved and in quite a bad shape.

Report Check-In

We were coming in Argentina, and it was fast. The Officers were polite and welcoming. They doesn’t look the inside of our car.

Report Check-In

VERY THOROUGH check of the entire car including a dog sniffing for drugs and/or cash. And that's leaving Argentina! I think they were bored as very few people were crossing there.

Report Check-In

Argentina --> Chile
Fast border crossing. Initially we were allowed to pass but we were stopped at the exit gate because of our jerrycans on the roof and had to turn back. They told us to empty the jerry cans (with 90L of gasoline inside) either in our van or another car but after some talking they led us through with all te gasoline. Apart from this, very smooth and friendly border.

Quick crossing from Chile to Argentina (with dog) on a sunday at 7.30 pm. They had a quick look into our fridge. But said there is a new law that tourists need to put down an adress in Argentina which we didn’t have so they said we cannot enter Argentina again without one ...

Report Check-In

took us 25 mins in total for both customs. no search of the vehicle

Can‘t confirm the last comments. There were lots of cars from Argentina to Chile and we had to wait quite long on the Argentinian side. In Chile they made the strongest control ever and checked everything in the cars. People with luggage had to put every piece on the scanner as they have at airports. People very friendly though. Would never go again over this border as it took nearly two hours to pass.

Report Check-In

Chile to Argentina. Somehow we managed to sneak out Argentina near Mendoza last time we entered Chile. Had to do get into the line with people exiting Argentina first and then when proper exit was in their system moved over to getting back in. Whole process took half an hour and officers where all mellow about it. As it turns out, this thing happens once in a while and we where not the first ones driving blindly out of their beautiful country

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Crossing from Argentina to Chile.
Well organised border, friendly people, easy pass with no food control (they didn't even look into the fridge).
20min for everything done

Report Check-In

Chile => Argentina: no trouble with 2 bicycles on the back and a jerrycan with diesel on the front of our car. The Argentina guys "checked" the car inside for fruit etc: they opened 1 closet and that was all. In our case a very easy bordercrossing!

Report Check-In

No pass into Chile today with our right hand drive Canadian registered vehicle... They cited some regulation from the 80's which does not let any foreign right hand drive vehicles into the country :(. Have passed into Chile previously multiple times and multiple orders without any problems., will try the pass North :). But, a really scenic pass regardless.

only 10 min waiting at Sunday 10am.
got only 3 months of vehicle permit.
we were not allowed to take gas in Jerry cans at all, so we walked around on the parking to give away the 10liters we had left over after filling our car.

Report Check-In

border crossing Chile side. our right hand drive vehicle was not allowed into Chile at this border despite having entered Chile on two other occasions further south. the transport law was quoted at us and we were turned away back to Argentina.

Report Check-In

Do not use if you have a right hand drive vehicle. Our right hand drive vehicle was refused entry into Chile. Use the Paseo Icalma border instead if you are trying to enter Chile.

Report Check-In

Passo Mui Mal (very bad). 5 hours to wait before leaving Argentina. Argentinian Customs understaffed and poorly informed. Happy to be back in Chile.
