Description

Update 04/2022: no wild camp anymore, but parking spot for the hike into the canyons.
Well prepared road, no 4x4, no high clearance needed.
——
Good spot for a night or break. At the end of the road there is a flat space for 4 cars or tents. Some protection from wind. Good for a short hike in the rock formation. In Uquia drive up the track left of the church a follow it to the end in about 2kms.

Edit: it's only 1 km from the town, but still quiet :)

Overnight camping at this parking lot is not allowed. The ranger said we could park at the flat area in front of the cemetery so we did. The area had some trash so good for one night.
Bathrooms at the parking lot are now functioning and the fee to visit the site is 100arg pp.

Report Check-In

As previous entry tells, they don’t let you spend the night here anymore. They improved the road, built a ticket booth (100 ARS pp) and also toilets were being built when we were there. But they said, that we could stay outside a little bit down the road (see wild camp /separate entry).

While we where going to the spot, at 19h, a local told us that the site was closed at this hour. When he asked if it was possible to stay during the night, he told us a big "no", and explained us that we could receive a multa. We left...

you have to cross the small town to access the path leading to the quebrada de la séniorita. at the end of the road there is a place to park for the walk of about 4 km round trip. quiet for the night but many tourists during the day.

il faut traverser la petite ville pour accéder au chemin menant à la quebrada de la séniorita. au bout du chemin il y a la place de stationner pour faire la balade d’environ 4 km aller retour. tranquille pour la nuit mais de nombreux touristes en journée.

Stayed here for one night. Very calm and peaceful. Could hear some drums in the distance until 11 PM and were greeted by a friendly goat herder around 8.30 AM the next morning. We were the only ones there.

A stop at the top would be really, really nice, but a couple of creeks have totally washed out the road. Need to stop about 500m earlier. Red mountains glow in the morning. Great night, but loud music from village.

Very nice place, easy to reach, would say 4x4 not neaded but nice to have, like usually ground clearence is more important, during day a lot of people with normal cars arrive,
quiet during night, windy,
You can have some nice treks in the valley

Petit parking très tranquille au départ du superbe sentier (à ne pas manquer).
accessible à tous véhicules par une piste de 1,5km après le cimetière de Uquia.
possibilité de planter une tente.
Le site est splendide.

Good spot at parking for gorge walk. Perfectly accessible in 2wd. Not possible to drive any further anyway. Beautiful scenery and very quiet in the evening. Walk steady uphill for 1.8 km but lovely colours and pinnacles.

We managed to cross this road but we break our motorhome during the descent. The guard mud is torn off.
this road is for 4x4.

Beautiful place at the start of the Quebrada De Las Señoritas walk. As mentioned before: no need for 4wd or high clearance. There are a few more pullouts before you reach the end or the road (if you don't feel comfortable going all the way), and we saw some cyclists use these and simply walk up to the start of the track. Used by locals a lot, but surprisingly little litter around. No need to say to keep in that way :)

Very nice place to camp. I totally recommend the walk along the canyon.

Nice Place! Nice Walk! Nice Red Canyon!
Perfect Place to stay in the near of the Ruta but quiet at night. And with a nice Walk the next day.
Just 1km of rough road after the town. No 4x4 needed!

amazing place, just an fyi for cyclists:
you're looking at a 1,3 km dirt road, 79 meters of elevation, max 9%. the road is part big rocks, part gavel and has patches of sand. nothing to get stick in, but a bit technical at places when you're carrying panniers. Place is more than worth some off road action though :)

Awesome place. Quiet and somewhat sheltered. Nice breakfast on the red rocks. We've seen just one car in the morning. Stayed there 2 nights. Nice walk with the kids down in the canyon.

Really great spot! Quiet during the night and just a very few visitors during the day.
It‘s just beautiful with the rock formations. Perfect stop if want to get used to the height on the way to bolivia.
Really no 4x4 needed.

Super nice place between red rock formation at the entrance to the canyon. The hike is awesome! Light is better in the morning. No 4x4 needed to drive up here.

Great campspot, beautifull & quiet!! Make sure you do the walk till the end, that's the nicest part. Nice little market in front of church in the cute village. The carneceria close to church has very good meat.

beautiful place, easy acces for our 22ft RV (no 4x4). We did a 1 hour hike early in the morning.

Stunning spot!!! Easy access.. the 'ugly' river crossing has been smoothed over and you don't need 4x4. We arrived about 7pm and had the place to ourselves until 9am when a goat herder came through.. the coloured rock formations are gorgeous at sunrise!

Report Check-In

The road inside the canyon has been washed out and it's impossible to drive in, but just in front of the canyon there is a nice flat. To this point you don't even need a high clearance!

Van with tourists came here at 10am so it's better to wake up a bit earlier :)

Report Check-In

Really pretty place, so close to a village but you feel like you're in the wild west here. When arriving in the dark mind the vegetation, big and small is all cacti. 4x4 not necessary, high clearance is, as there's a really ugly dried up river that you have to cross on the way. A goat herder is all we saw here.

Great spot with a lots of space. 4x4 needed. Red rocks all around just amazing with the sunset and the sunrise. Best place 👌
