Description

The campsite consists of 2 parts: a lawn next to the main road/reception/house and 4 pitches on the red dune, 3 km from the other part. We stayed at the dune. The pitches are spacious and quite far apart. Each pitch has its own toilet, shower, sink, fireplace with windscreen and canopy. Beautiful view over the dunes. Very small shop with some drinks and meat. Electricity is not available at the dunes.

September 2023: 500 ND per site. This is for up to 4 persons

Amazing camping at the dunes. totally worth the $500 for two of us. spectacular views and lovely thatched area with a table and BBQ area with washing up sink. Sunset and sunrise just beautiful ❤️. We also saw some wildlife giraffe, oryx, springbok, eland and kudu. possibly heard some lions in the distance in the night? Definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful but camping now N$500pp. for dune camping, very very expensive..... Facilities slightly run down as well, not expecting that against the overnight price.

Report Check-In

We have visited many campsites, and I review as many as possible. And every now and then we come across a true GEM.

We stayed 2 nights, 16 + 17 April 2023. We camped at number 2. There were no other campers. The campsites are far apart, and no way other campers will disturb you.

NOTES:
1. you camp on a red dune. You need a 4x4 to get to the campsite.
2. There is a paved area at the boma, with a thatchroof for shade, which is also paved. And a sundowner viewing deck. The campsite is very spacious.
3. You have your own private ablution, with flush toilet, basin and shower. There is a donkey boiler for hot water. The ablution is at bottom of the dune. We got some good exercise....!
4. The sunrise and sunset views are simply breathtaking.
5. There is no road noise! Just peace and quite.
6. We saw giraffes, kudu, springbok, eland.
7. I will advise that you bring all you need along, as the nearest shops are in Koës and Gochas.
8. There is a shop at the office, they sell some basics.
9. We received 1 bag of firewood free, and bought another for ND70. Excellent wood!
10. The water seems clean and drinkable.

Just a final opinion:
We are prepared to drive 1,200km from our hometown in South Africa JUST to camp ONLY here for 7 days straight! The main reason is SOLITUDE, PEACE and QUIET! You are here alone, nothing else to do that to relax with your partner, chat with your partner, enjoy your partner's company, enjoy some private time, replenish your soul, enjoy the views and sounds of nature.

We paid ND250 per person per night

Price is still 400 N$. We stayed at number 2. The ablution has now a roof, There is a sitting area with a roof and a sundowner deck. We loved the bush feeling and stayed two days.
Three camp sites already renovated, the last camp will be renovated next year and the owner wanted to build another 4 campsites on top of the dunes.

We like this place. This is already our second visit of this place. Prices are still the same - 400 N$ per campsite. Last time we stayed on Nr. 4, which is on the right of the dune, this time on Nr. 2, which is on the left. For both you will need 4x4 with reduced pressure on the tyres, then you are able to stand on the dune with a spectacular wide view. Left down of Nr. 2 is a little waterplace for animals - check for giraffes, springbok, eland etc. During the night there is only the sound of nature, during the day you might be able to hear sound from the 3 km away road or some of the people working on the farm.
Each place has its own ablution, set nicely a little away from the campsite (walking time for us less than a minute). It is a typical bush setup, a flash toilett and a shower surrounded by a palisade, open to the sky. If the sun is shining, there will be enough hot water for two from donkey boiler without firing it.
In the evening you might even get a little dish washer help from a cape fox - but careful - he might carry it away and you have to collect it.
Meerkats are still on the farm, sometimes they are out foraging in the area. I was able to hold them and to play with them.

There are new owners now from Windhoek. Price gone up. N$300 at road camp which does not have suffiecent shade. There were campers who wanted to camp at Dunes now N$ 400. They took all the shade. We had to wait in the sun till they go to there nest. Not right. So we travelled on.

Fabulous stay at the farmyard camp. Working farm. Noisy with farm animals but wonderful. Very friendly hosts. Braai packs available of lamb and game meat.
The campsites in the dunes looked wonderful. Very remote. Great views and well equipped for camping.
Farmyard camp, just 2 sites, was N$150 per person. Electricity available. Wood also available to buy.

Report Check-In

It was one of the best places we found in Namibia. At sundown we saw some girafs, kudus and oryx. Price was 200 per person.

Report Check-In

After reading previous comment we were slightly apprenhensive, however, we were actually pleasantly surprised. The sand dunes are about 4km from main farm and the highway, trail to them is easy but the last 200metres is through and up onto the dunes so of course is sand and 4x4 with low pressures needed. Camps are very private, spectacular views and lots of wildlife, duiker alongside the truck etc. Each camp has its own facilities, light your own donkey boiler for hot water. Facilities are basic, rather quirky outdoor bathrooms constructed literally in the trees. The new owner has already upgraded some camps and a little money spent on the others would be nice, but the place is not the worst we have stayed at.
For a sense of solitude and great views this place wins and is worth the cost but if you want a bar and a pool then perhaps not the best.
We negotiated the cost and stayed 2 nights for the price of 1.
Owner has some orphan meerkats and she has at least 4 meerkat colonies on the farm.
Good half way stop to or from kgalagadi, we liked the place.

Report Check-In

We did not stay in the end, cost was 400 NAD for two people and after driving to the dunes through the very heavy sand, was appalled at the condition of the very expensive campsites, this has new owner and she really couldn't be bothered, we went back to the house 3km away and got our money back, Auob Lodge is much nicer and better value. There are no signs in the dunes where to go and sites are not numbered, the toilet is a bit of a walk down the back of the dunes too
