Ecuador
An English speaking mechanic who helped us when another nearby seemed to rip us off. He was recommended to us by a Gringo network here in Cuenca. He's friendly, and judging by the number of vehicles in his workshop, very popular here. He used his diagnostic tool to check our vehicle and gave us peace of mind before sending us on our way, without charging anything.

We had a great experience here! Our 2020 Ford Transit showed a “check engine” light after being at high altitude. We showed up at Martin’s shop at 8am on a Friday (he doesn’t work Sat and Sun, that’s for family and fishing) and he had his scanner hooked to the OBDII port by 8:15am. He speaks English and assured us it was nothing serious. He ran the diagnostics, cleaned our plugs, and had us on our way by 9am. He suggested we run the best available fuel (Super in Ecuador) at high altitude, as he said the fuel here is of poor quality.
