Description

A beautiful and quiet campground next to Pinewoods Lake. Easy access, paved road in from the highway and paved sites. The 15 sites are large and have fire pits (lots of fire wood around) and camp tables. Most will fit Class A RVs, some of the sites are doubles for 2 or more vehicles to park together.
This was previously a paid camping area but is now free, we believe there is no longer potable water here and this is why the park service stopped charging. Lots of trees and shade, bring a hammock!

There are pit toilets nearby at the day use area where there is also a boat ramp (electric motors only) and picnic areas. There's a power point near the campground but it isn't working. There are no rubbish bins here, please pack your rubbish out.

There's a 1.3 mile track that loops around the lake where people fish. Low phone reception with T-Mobile/MetroPCS.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this spot if you're after a relaxing camp.

We were advised by a local that the maximum stay here is 14 days.

peaceful, wooded campground with very few users. they've added a dumpster so I guess that accounts for the minimal trash in the area.

a wonderful free spot in the mark twain national forest. level paved parking for motorhomes and RVs, level cleared ground for tents. lake, boat ramp, dock, pit toilets, picnic tables and fire rings.

Report Check-In

Still free and Still perfect. A very clean free RV and tent camping area with pavement right to your spot. No sketchy roads or gravel. individual camping areas with picnic tables and a nice lake.

This was lovely. I wish there were more free campsites like this one.

Beautiful campground and park. I’m really surprised there’s only two of us here.

Report Check-In

several relatively flat spaces, some double. restrooms only. decent AT&T signal (I have 5 bars with a roof antenna). Weak Verizon signal.

Report Check-In

This is a great site. As others stated, there are 15 paved sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring and a pole to hang a lantern. There are two vault toilets, one in the campground and the other at the day use/boat launch site. No water or garbage. Pack it in and pack it out.

The only negative is that there are a LOT of ticks! Luckily they’re easy to spot on my white dog but I have to do tick checks EVERY time he goes outside. Avoid the vegetation and you’ll see a lot less. Make sure you tick-check yourself.

Absolutely perfect. paved road, paved camp sites, fire rings, tables, a lake and totally free ! Thank you national forest service! ☆☆☆☆☆

Nice place would revisit. To bad people can’t carry out

Report Check-In

Good clean paved sites. No garbage or running water. Lake is good though. No fees.

all I can say is this place is great. I'm parked on a site right on the lake, site #8. 4G Verizon with 2 bars. Small campground with only a couple others here. 14 day limit for FREE

Report Check-In

Very nice and quiet! No hookups as stated but very few people here on a Saturday night.

Report Check-In

Pulled in after dark. Most of the sites are open. Free, clean, looks like there are pit toilets close by. Plenty of wood, couldn’t find kindling, had to split my own. Nice sites, plenty big for most RVs and trailers. Its off the freeway a bit but you can still hear it. No water at spigots I found.

Report Check-In

Well maintained campground that is not advertised on many maps. Lots of room between the paved parking sites. No water or garbage but fine if you are self contained. Worth the stop

Report Check-In

We had quite the experience with people who have seemed to make this a somewhat permanent residence. The generators were going all night long. Another camp screamed, set off car alarms, and shot a gun at 1AM. There was no camp host or cell reception. It was the first time we feared for our lives.

Report Check-In

Nice place, but closed because oft COVID19.

We were staying at a Boondockers Welcome in Ellsinore and took a ride to check it out. Very nice place, no one was there. We were thinking of coming here for a few nights after we left our BW, but we had some tornado warnings and decided to move on. Do hope to return some day, would love to stay here .
