Description

A quiet, level spot at the dead end of a track (the rest is too overgrown to drive) with a great view towards the north. There is a fire ring. Camping here is explicitly allowed - as confirmed by the ranger in September 2022. (The rule is: at least ½ mile from the Garnet Ghost Town, including the parking lot.) At the request of OP (and many others): please take care of the spot. Please pack your toilet paper (there's quite a bit now).

The road here is easier from HWY 200 than from Interstate 90, but both are fun if you bring the right vehicle.

Someone took the fire ring apart because of a recent fire ban. We visited the ranger in the visitor center: this spot is known to them and is allowed for wild camping. Just don't be spooked if some local shows up and parks for half an hour to pick up a cell signal...

Great spot with a great view! Clean. Saw 2 fawns that still had their spots.

Beautiful spot near the ghost town. I made it up from i-90 in my 20 year old accord but I don't recommend it. Saw a bear cub also.

Great spot which is located more than 1/2 mile from the ghost town so it’s legal according to the rules posted at Garnet. We drove up from the 90 and left by driving to the 200. Access from the 200 is easy but if you’re planning on driving the Americas the route from the 90 is a good test for you and your vehicle. We have a diesel 4wd 1 ton van but never used 4wd and we drove up in the rain. High clearance was necessary for a few sections and light vehicles may need 4wd for some of the steep grades. It was a fun reminder of all the roads we drove during our trip to the end of the world.

We had a great visit to the ghost town, but be aware that dispersed camping is NOT allowed near here. The ranger explained that dispersed camping is prohibited due its close proximity to historical structures, which is a BLM policy.

NIGHTMARE ROAD FROM HELL! DO NOT ENTER UNLESS YOU HAVE 100% TRUST IN YOUR VEHICLE AND HIGH CLEARANCE! NOT WORTH IT! AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF IT'S RAINING OR SNOWING!

Great spot! Amazing view. Thank you for sharing!!

Great spot/ easy to get to off the 200 and super close to the must see Garnet Ghost town. Two major mud puddles getting back there but overall beautiful view. Also only a few beer cans to pick up otherwise it was pretty clean! We did have a visitor roll up at 4am. Not sure if they were looking for a sunrise spot but the backed out once they noticed we were there.

Do not enter via road 90. It's a creepy stressful harsh road. Instead it seems the entrance from highway 200 is more suitable and nicer.

Spot is nice, remote, and a bit eerie. Perfect for those who are looking for a far away spot. Nice view of the mountains and the sunset.

Beautiful spot but unfortunately blocked by a huge puddle! I'd recommend either a high clearance or 4WD vehicle to access this.

Who comes to such a great spot and leaves dog shit, gun casings, and beer cans? People are the worst. We cleaned it up, of course. Please help keep this amazing spot clean!

Really huge view. The access from hgw 200 is easier than the other from the south. You can visit Garnet ghost town close to this spot : 3$ pp.
