I went Nigeria to Benin with car.

White uniforms wanted to see original vaccine certificate.

Nigeria and Benin immigration are in the same room. Gave passport to three adjacent windows, Benin being the first around the corner, unmarked. I had Benin evisa. Benin officer spoke more French than English.

For Nigeria customs, walked through the "tunnel" in the same building, found the window called Laisser Passer. Got carnet exit stamp.

For carnet entry stamp to Benin, see my separate entry.

I crossed by foot, it was very easy so you really don't need one of the numerous "guide" that propose you to help you to cross.
They just asked the Benin stamp and yellow fever vaccination.
Then I took a collective taxi to Lagos for 7 000CFA. On the road, policemen controlled my passport 2-3 times on the road but without bothering me.

Crossing the border from Benin to Nigeria. We crossed yesterday and it was very easy, with a man (Beninese officer without uniform or fake officer 🤷🏻‍♂️) to help us with all the steps. The buildings of the 2 countries are shared so it is not easy to navigate. The Beninese customs officer did not want to stamp our CPDs because his chief was not present. This chief is not often present, it seems, so it can be complicated, but it is possible to arrange this unofficially and still get the vehicle out of Benin. The Nigerian agents were all very nice, friendly and reassuring. The immigration officer offered us 1 month of additional validity in the country because our visas were expiring soon since they were made in Paris. The formalities are done easily and quickly. Once finished, you can leave and you will only have one passport control on the Nigerian side. No control on the Beninese side. Possibility of buying a SIM card and data at an exorbitant price and of changing money by negotiating the very high rate directly at the border. After that it's much more complicated, especially since Lagos is hell. Attention: road under construction between the border and Lagos and it is extremely complicated to move forward in places, not to mention the countless checks. After Lagos and its suburbs it's easy.

Benin to Nigeria. Pretty easy border if you already have your visa of course :) some fixers want to help you (for some money of course) but honestly you don’t need them it’s easy.

They ask yellow fever (+Covid) then you stamp out of Benin (bring your Bénin evisa confirmation, printed or on the phone). Then you stamp in for Nigeria (pictures and print + some questions), another desk to verify your information and that’s it.

For the car if you have CPD ask around for the Benin stamp out, and the Nigeria stamp in.

If you need a laissez passer (passavant) it’s FREE even if they try to ask for some money. You get 28 days easily for your vehicule.

It’s possible to exchange some cash but you really need to negotiate the rate. Especially if you change euros or dollars. We didn’t manage to get SIM card so had to go to Lagos for that. We were Sunday, the road to Lagos was good : 3 hours lots of checkpoints but only 10 stopped us to see documents (and of course ask for some money)

I wish I read what this guy said earlier. Same for me no escort possible for voa. They deported me immediately. Go to Iridoko instead.

We had the business VOA arranged for us but this border is definitly not doing it anymore. They told us that its been 2 years or so that they stopped doing it. No escort for us, nothing. We stayed 5 hours at the border, begging for help, have talks with a lot of people (even Mr Livinus, the captain in charge) but nothing... No way to get into Nigeria. They told us to leave our car at the border, and then fly to Lagos Airport to get the VOA. And finally go back to the border to get our vehicle... Dont come here with your VOA, it wont work.

One of his men will escort you to the airport to get stamped your visa in your passport. Naira 15.000,- for the escort, to get the man by taxi back to the border.
