Latest Check-Ins

We had a nice pitch right at the Khwai riverside, a bit further away from the ”main camp” where most of the sites were pretty close to each other (you _can definitely see other campers from some of the sites). But we were far from any ablution, so basically not any amenities, which is why the 350 pula/pppn felt very expensive. Spent 1 night for the view and for the ability to easily go do the game drive(s) to the tracks zigzagging the Khwai area.

wild camping with ablutions, lot of lions, leopards, elepants, hippos, lots of bird life, blue wilde beast, stunning place and bush babies, 💙👌

Report Check-In

As campsites and roads were very quiet around Main and the parks I came here without a booking. Reception staff were very nice and organised a spot for me 350pula for the night for one person. Lots of shade from big trees that was appreciated after a long drive. Reception told me that there was Leopards mating across the river from my Camp site the previous night!

Report Check-In

The only negative aspect is the ablution. They never cleaned it within 4 days and it was used by 10 people.
The area is nice and game is coming from moremi. We don‘t wanted to support the new fee policy of Botswana and that‘s the reason we stayed outside the park. Can recommend it if you are looking for an alternative to the park.

Report Check-In

Crazy expensive 875bwp (67 eur) for 2 adults and 1 child for just a piece of grass with zero service or equipment. Ablutions about 1 or 2 km away so not an option to walk especially after dark. They don’t even bother to mark campsites numbers so it’s a maze to drive kilometres around to find reception and then to find the allocated campsite and no maps to show either. It’s a place with nice nature with many elephants and some hippos around the river nearby though and makes a convenient stop between savuti and Maun. (Or moremi)

Report Check-In

outside the park campsite just half an hour north east of the north gate exit. alongsite the river. lot of game there. 350p pp/n. a few ablutionunits. so you have to walk. possibly better find a place just there in the bush.

Report Check-In

Exoensive camping but well worth it as you save on park fees and they know it. Booked for 2 nights but stayed for 4. Camp site old 2 abit far from river but close to abolutions with hot water and clean but used by many. Elephants and hippo not toi far at the river. 9 liins went through camp 1 sunset. This area of Moremi is the best for wildlife. Saw many more wildlufe here then in the park.
If you run out of diesel Patrick in Kwai village sells it at pula 25 per litre (normal price 16.85!!!)but thats life

Report Check-In

We checked this place out on our way from Moremi to Maun but did not end up staying because we found the price (350pula pppn) for what you get was too high. If you want to enjoy the game drives and spend a few days, it’s a different story but we were just looking for a place to stop over and the campsite has not much to offer (huge spots under trees, only a few ablutions very far away from some of the campsites and you shouldn’t walk there especially in the dark.)
We stayed at Maako Rest Camp instead.

Report Check-In

Plenty of campsites to choose from. Far apart. Plenty of animal activity day and night. No hot water

Report Check-In

Beautiful campsite run by the Khwai community. The Reception is now near Campsite 4! (Look on the Tracks4Africa Map App). 350 Pula per Person.

We showed up without a reservation and got a nice place next to the river. There are lots of campsites to choose from. Some are far away from the ablution blocks so be self sufficient. Ablutions are very good with flushing toilets and solar powered warm showers. Lots of game roam through the area. We had a lion, elephants and a hyena in our campsite at night.

Beautiful free self game drive along the Khwai and Mbudi river with lots of Hippos and Elephants!

Report Check-In

Amazing spot next to the river. On the drive in we saw giraffe, elephant, hippos and zebra all before the camp turn off. Ablutions with hot water showers and flush toilets. Animals aren’t scared of rigs when you drive up.

Report Check-In

Great campsite next to the river. Beautiful views with wildlife just there. Slightly scary moment with lions coming through our camp during the day, so don’t walk to the ablutions. Wonderful game drives along the river. Would definitely revisit.

Report Check-In

Wunderschöner einfacher Campingplatz, viel Abstand zu den anderen Stellplätzen, Dusche und Toilette vorhanden, direkt am Kwai River.

Report Check-In

Zwei Löwinnen mit fünf Jungtieren am Abend beim Trinken am Fluss!

Report Check-In

There are 3 campsites within the Khwai area, all the same price 350 pulas pppn. Magotho offers 15 large plots, each under huge acacia tree but sometime distant of a few kms from the toilets. So one needs to be self sufficient to camp in the wild. The lowest numbers are more close to each otherand to the river. This is a very driven and dusty area, not much of intimacy. Wildlife is impressive in the whole Khwai area. We had no booking, went 2 days in the row to the bush office and found nobody there, so we opted for Khwai safari ground where staff is always present and plots more intimate.

Report Check-In

wildlife for 350p/pppn
but amazing game drive

Report Check-In

wouldn’t recommend due to not very friendly. Only intrested in money. 350 pppn and most of the abulutions are not working. Furthermore most of the sites are away from the river. You can compare it to wildcamping.

Report Check-In

There is a permanent bush office for the campsites now so don’t go to Kwhai village but try your luck if you haven’t booked. We were given the emergency site as it was fully booked. 350P per person and a generator closeby....there are toilets and showers now at different locations between the campsites

Report Check-In

Stunning wild place. Ellis came close to us.
Beware with kids. Ablutions did not work because of water pump problem.
Game drives around were amazing. Sure we come back there.

Report Check-In

Very beautiful sight and spacious camp sites. Very few shared ablution and far away from sites. Don't use site 2, right next to petrol water pump that gets started every morning and afternoon. Only 2 showers and 2 toilets for men and same for women. Very dirty so be self sufficient. 350 Pula is a very high price for what you get but I guess you pay for the location.

Report Check-In

We loved the area so much we came back for another ten days! We spent most of our time along the river (direction Savuti) across the cut line. Technically Chobe but no one checked. Make sure to spend some time around there.

If you don’t want to pay the silly 300 Pula pppn at the Camp then find a spot along the river and hope no one comes. That’s what we did too. Just arrive after sunset and leave early :) be careful of the cats :)

Report Check-In

Truly wild! Expensive but best option around. We stayed at MAG5.

This whole area has amazing game viewing and is totally worth staying at. Make sure to cross over the river to sable alley which is where we spotted several leopards and there is also a wild dog den there. Ask any guides and they will be able to point you in the right direction. Some of the water crossings are pretty deep.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place! We stayed at MAG 2 for two days and we got too many elephants around (cause there is a track to/from the river). We also saw a group of 15 wild dogs hunting an impala... It was incredible.
Vervet monkeys tried to enter our car, but we chased them away with a catapult. Be careful also with squirrels!

Report Check-In

Same as written below. For us it is one of the best places to stay in Botswana. Huge area with campsites far apart from each other so you have your privacy. Amazing wildlife. Elephants roam around the campsites quietly. We had a leopard close to our camp. You have a lot of trees where you can find shade. No facilities and bring your own water.

Report Check-In

Stayed on MAG 4 with 2 tents. No problems with mice. Lots of birds around site but no Sightings of big animals. Prob MAG 5 is better for this. Paid 300pppn.

Report Check-In

We only saw birds and rodents at this campsite. I don't recommend tenting as the mice will eat through your tent, like they ate through our car wiring! Saw lots of animals on the river front drive though.

Report Check-In

Great alternative to the campsites in the park when you show up spontaniously. You have to drive to Khwai to book. 300 Pula is expensive but totally worth it. We had two elephants hanging around our car and in the morning we heard a lion. Just great!

Report Check-In

Wow, amazing! But not for the faint of heart. Accessed by horrible roads prone to flooding so 4x4 advised. Basic bush camping with no amenities, but right in the heart of the delta. A handful of sites sit right on the river Khwai, spread out so no noise from other campers. No fences, just you and the bush and a ton of elephants, hippos and wildlife. Supposed to be great for spotting leopard and wild dog but we were unlucky! P300pppn which is highway robbery BUT it's a community run camp so profits go to the Khwai community trust. And a small price to pay for the amazing location as well, right on the edge of Moremi and Chobe but no park fees to pay! Can't wait to come back!

Report Check-In

Campsite 4 on through road but 10m from river. Kudo passing through and elephants crossing throughout the day. 300 pula pppn (for 'foreigners') pretty pricey for a plot of ground and nothing else. That said, it's spacious and quiet and the area has (apparently) a very high proportion of leopards. Comfortable wild camping with decent game tracks to follow.

Report Check-In

Superb location at river in Okavanga Delta with elephants bathing 10 m from your site. Grassy with a few trees. Large spaces (you don't see other campers). No ablutions, water or any other facility. Payment must be made at the Khwai Community Trust office in Khwai about 25 km away from the campsite towards Moremi North Gate. Extremely expensive. Deep sand access road.
BWP 300 per person per night.
