This place is CLOSED. The nearby visitors center said it is because of flooding. Apparently all campsites up route 4 until Battleship Rock are closed for the foreseeable future. Rain is a good thing, however. The Jemez has seen it's fair share of fires and drought this year.
Report Check-InWe drove north from Gilman Tunnel to camp and one cannot get to the far sites from this road. The gate is locked. But there are many nice sites along the road. Great views. We stayed one night there. Watch out for rattlesnakes in the leaves.
People, there is a fire ban, respect it!
We then stayed at Vista Linda, so beautiful! 13 secluded sites amongst cottonwoods and shady green foliage, some have large shelters, clean toilets, free water. Right on the Jemez River. $10 a night, $5 with a valid pass. Cute town up the road. Very little traffic.
Report Check-InGreat camp with beautiful views along the Jemez river. Pit toilets, water, garbage. $10 a nite. No Verizon service. Sat in the river with chairs and a cocktail on a hot day! Perfect.
Report Check-InDecent camping in NFS campground. Now open. Still $10 or $5 for Golden Eagle passholders. Got the last site tonight. other opportunities in the area were slim or sketch.
Report Check-InNice campground with basic amenities. This is also the only spot along the whole road where you can legally camp.
