It’s kind of weird to get here regardless of what your phone tells you, you can get here from highway 95 from Corn Creek road on the north bound side. It’s pretty nice out here very quiet and good AT&T signal. Behind the refuge visitor center there is a dirt road that goes two ways we went Alamo Rd but you could go the other way probably!
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The spot at this location is marked as closed. There are two spots we saw around this area where vehicles pulled out but they may also be closed soon. Vehicle use off the trail has had a negative impact on the desert so they are being strict about where vehicles can go.
Report Check-Ingreat spot to park for a night or two. the road is very rough and it’s deeper than you think on alamo rd (probably because the first two pull out are now day use only) but keep pushing forward. the spots are pretty secluded and in an open area- they work perfect
Report Check-InPretty much as described, though it didn't seem hard to find. Would have been nice to stay for a few nights but we were only there for one.
Report Check-InRoad is rough but very doable. High clearance vehicles recommended. Surprisingly a lot of the pull offs were claimed, but we still managed to find something and stay for the night. 4 bars and LTE with Verizon, only heard two vehicles pass us throughout the night / morning.
Report Check-InDrove out Alamo Road looking for boon docking and found this spot straight past the intersection of Alamo and Joe May Road. At first we thought we went too far but found a really nice flat spot with plenty of room for our 24ft class C. Overall pretty quiet, few OHV’s passing by but isolated. Looking forward to the evening when the sun goes down and the stars come out. Highly recommend!
Report Check-InPulled in for the night. Very quite. We saw 2 other vehicles camping; 1 van and one car/tent. The ground is very rocky and the road is very rough, not 4x4 rough, but just really bumpy. Pulled into small single car stall in left side. Our site was dirty; scattered trash and human waste on the ground. A good place, just watch your step.
Report Check-InWill return to tour the Visitor Center when it reopens. Camped off Alamo Road and watched a snow squall come and go during the evening. Alamo Road pretty rough and only a few places to camp makes this a tough place for an overnight dry camp with our trailer. Seemed to be fewer spots the farther you go on Alamo.
Report Check-InWOW it’s beautiful out here! Be aware that Alamo is a very washboard-y road so be prepared to have your dentures rattle! After making the left at the T, I drove about a mile expecting to find “campgrounds” however all I found were very small primitive pull outs along this road. So I took one! Desert is beautiful and quiET.
