Description

Near the lake, in the abandoned campsite, we loved it.

Very nice spot for the night. Tranquil and peaceful. Cows and goats around. On the opposite shore we could see elephants. A few fishermen went by at afternoon and after dark when they were returning from their fishing trip. Everybody just greeted us nicely and nobody bothered us. Peaceful night and morning. Some firewood around, if you want to make a fire and a derelict braai stand, that may be still used (if you have a grid). Didn’t see any hippos at night.

Everything has already been said in previous publications. Still relevant today. Watch out for hippos in the evening.

Beautiful spot near the lake. When we arrived there were a couple of hippo’s in the water and on the other side of the lake we could see four elephants! Sunset is stunning and plenty of fire wood laying around.

We’ve seen many people from a nearby village fishing or with their kettle. Two of them went into/out of the lake via our camping spot (around 5pm and 11pm). All very friendly so nothing to worry about.

As per other reviews, it looks like a campsite & chalets that was never completed. The structure of all the buildings is there minus the roofs. The place is overgrown now but there are good spots with views of the lake. Firewood is plentiful but only use what is already dead. There is a pile of bricks you can use to make a fire ring.

What a stunning wild camping spot. Cattle grazing by, birds singing in the trees and 30-50 hippos in the water. Crocodiles are also in the lake near the shore but far enough from camp. I wouldn't go close to the water towards the evening as the hippos come out of the water.

We loved the place so much that we stayed 2 nights. Just watch out if it rains. The ground will get very muddy. One of the old sites has still an even concrete place which might be better for rainy days.

The road in is a bit rough over rocks and through a small riverbed but that one only flows in the rain. We followed maps.me directions to this place. The tracks are marked on the app.

Great fireplace with a view of this end of the lake.

Very few locals walked by in the distance on their way to go fishing.

We saw fireflies in the evening.

Very nice place, the camp’s buildings are still there but starting to disintegrate.
A few fishermen around but very friendly as all over zim!!
Right on the lake, with hippos and crocs.
