Description

Camping area on grass with great views of the countryside and mountains. Owner Hernando was very friendly and spoke clear, slow Spanish. We paid $10,000 per person per night. They had cabanas available and a restaurant serving meals. Convenient location for the Ritacuba Blanco hike. Suicide showers available.

Camping is 20 now. It gets cold in the night you are on 4'000m. Also had dorm and cabaña options.
From here you can ride up 7km more till the end of the road, beautiful views, snow coverd peaks.

Great place to stay if your planning to hike. A little on the expensive side, 45000 cop per person. Not bad if you have the cabin to yourself though. We brought our own food so didn’t have to buy at the restaurant.

As discribed by others. There was no one on site when we arrived. Ranger told us to go to Posada Sierra Nevada just below as there were people there. Ranger said you need a reservation for Kanwara to insure you can get it. not much plat parking that we could see. nice looking cabanas. Right on the trailhead.
Please be aware that you must secure all permits, insurance and guide BEFORE you arrive here. Stop in Guican or El Cocuy before make the hour drive to any of these sites.
If you plan on doing more than one hike in the park, make all arrangements prior to driving up here. 4x4 is not needed, yet the dirt track can be a bit rough.

The place is temporarily closed at least until the National Park re-opens. Nonethelesss, we spoke with the park ranger at the check point booth and asked if we could camp just outside the gate of Cabanas Kanwara. We were told that as long as we had a restroom and to not to access the trails it was ok. The views of the mountains and glaciers from here are beautiful weather permits. You can hike or drive along the road to the view point. The views are gorgeous. Free.

Park is closed and this place is technically closed but we were lucky to encounter a park ranger at the puesto de control who was kind enough to let us still camp here. Not sure if it's always allowed but it's definitely worth trying! (~1hr from Guican) One of the most beautiful, tranquil, and cold places we've stayed yet. And if you wake up early enough (5am) you'll have amazing views of 3 of the glaciers before the clouds roll in. The ranger said sometimes the owner, Hernando, comes by and asks for 10-20k for camping on his property. We stayed 2 nights and he never came. Don't need 4x4 to get here but high clearance recommended. Gate is narrow (we're in a 4Runner and barely squeezed through).

Very friendly and a pretty awesome place to pitch a tent. 10k. Note that apparently the hike needs a guide and crampons to reach the summit, but you can get close enough by hiking. It's a challenging 14k return hike which climbs to over 4800m. 6-8h depending on fitness. Well worth it!

The view from here is spectacular. You camp at grass on 4005 m altitude and get everything you need for 10kp.P. The suicide-showers are only medium warm. A good spot to start the hike up to the peak! Cabanas available too.
