Description

The Last Free Beach, that's how it was introduced to us.

Open space among bushes on the way to Playa Escondido beside an expat community. Not used by many. Maybe they think it's dangerous. We were three last night.
Perfect for short term stayers on the way South or back. We hear the road, but not noisy. Absolutely no service other than fire rings. Vendors come by. There's a restaurant (with wifi, apparently) in the community.

absolutely closed now. !!!! they bulldozed the last entrance that someone cut the barb wire enclosure to. Cannot get in. there are no big turn arounds if you need to do a youey. I posted a pix.

Report Check-In

It is still open and still free. You'll camp close to a small community of expats that have built houses along the beach but you'll have privacy.Met a few other overlanders staying there.
To get here take the first left that you'll find on the dirt road that takes to Playa La Escondida (that is a short walk from this spot)

Report Check-In

This area is fenced and chained off now. Tried to boondock here but can’t get to beach 😢

Report Check-In

As reported this area has been closed. A friend who lives nearby said people making a mess in the mangrove with crap and TP. A new area next to it with facilities is being constructed.

Report Check-In

I wasn't able to find this place.

Report Check-In

There’s fences and gates along this entire street…. I’m not sure where the free spot could possibly be.
Could it possibly be an intentional diversion from the santispac people so you have to go to them? Not sure… but there weren’t any available spaces without a gates/ chain fences here on 12.26.22

CLOSED. Chains and barbed wire block off all access

Closed as of today. The roads into this area have been blocked off with fence posts and wire. There is no vehicular access anymore.

Report Check-In

This beach is now closed. Fenced off and gated. Don't know for how long.

Report Check-In

we stayed the night here but there was about 8 other rigs/cars/vans here so we didn't get to park right next to the water. it was beautiful and fine for one night. water is high in the morning and low in the afternoon.

Report Check-In

FYI: We were told that they are closing the beach in a few days. There's a pay beach further down the driveway. It's narrow so be careful.

We are here now (Dec 13th, 2022) It is an amazing spot. A little spot in paradise. But sadly they are in the process of putting up a fence around the property. (It is private land) They have one of the entrances blocked off, and it looks like they might be blocking the second. They have to post that they are putting in concrete. If it is not closed, the posts will stop any large rigs from getting in. (won't be able to make the turn) They are holding off until Saturday (Dec 17) to allow us to leave before we get trapped inside with our fifth wheel.

Great atmosphere. Camped a few feet from the water.

Great free beachside campground across from Playa Santispac. Lots of rays in the water, great snorkeling on the back side of the closest island, and nice paddle boarding when the wind is low. It’s easier to get out in the water at high tide. There is a hot spring near the houses on the cliff side in the edge of the ocean that’s accessible an hour or two before/after high tide. Can get there by foot or paddle board easily.

Our first night we just shared the beach with a group of cyclists, the second night, 6 or 7 vehicles rolled in! Beautiful bay and sandy shallow waters. You have to wade out 25-50 meters or so before you can really swim. Hot springs on the other side of the bay, northeast of the little pueblito. You have to hit it just right when the tide is only just starting to go out. There are also hot springs on the west side of the beach near the two mangrove trees, but it seems to have filled with sand and was unusable while we were there. Sandflies and mosquitos were bothersome when the wind died down.

Report Check-In

Wide space, easy to level with all kind of rigs. The sandy beach besides an American community is really nice.

Please pay attention when you walk on the right side of the bay in the water. We saw many rays, they are hidden under the sand! If they hit you, it hurts extremely.

We stayed two nights here. Very nice, directly on the beach, awesome snorkeling close to the island. We saw tropical fishes and corals, clams, it was perfect.
Lots of flies in the morning, but after 9am it is fine.

Report Check-In

Nice spot, can be right next to the water. Good beach for kayaking with nearby islands stuffed with birds. Several tidal pool hotsprings that are very nice. Not too many vans/rvs in the free area, though there are quite a few houses and moored boats so it doesn't feel too isolated.

Our absolute favorite spot in Baja! Amazing beach, good snorkeling for stingrays, can kayak to islands, a cave to explore & some hot springs. We even saw bioluminescence when we were here! There’s a restaurant a little walk into the town that offers all day WiFi if needed. No service on beach Verizon, AT&T or telcel. Locals come through in cars selling rigs, food, hats etc. The empanadas are amazing!

Amazing beach next to American mulege. Ended up spending wayyy too much time at this beach since it was beautiful and lots of things to do. Hot springs, kayaking, bon fires, getting wifi for the day in the resto. Definitely reccomend to everyone who's looking for free dry camping. There are a lot of vendors who come by selling fruits, veggies, empanadas, wood, etc. If you do rent kayaks just make sure you inspect them before and there are no holes, friend got duped with a bad kayak. He paid 400 pesos for the day.

Why pay at Santispec when you can stay across the bay for free? We stayed here 4 nights and loved it.

Tide goes out far in the day so do your kayaking in the morning. Can walk to nearby village to the restaurant for WiFi. There are even free hot springs near by.

This was an absolute amazing spot! I'm not sure why it has a hotel icon attached as it is a free site. We stayed for 10 days with no issues. There are vendors that bring everything from food to water to kayaks right to you. We have a fairly large 5th wheel and for 200 liters of water we paid 200 pesos. There is a cute village where there is a restaurant with wifi. They do charge 100 pesos per person but if you order food it's only 50 pesos. This is dry site with no services. Any size rig can fit here. There is room for approximately 7 or 8 rigs. The beach is not as nice as some of the others in the area, there is not really a sandy beach, and when the tide is out you have to walk a ways to the water but it was fine for us. There are a couple of hotsprings by the village. Over a weekend there were a few young Americans at the section right next to the village and they had a big black truck that was very loud and they were drinking and doing donuts. A few people approached them and asked them to show some respect for the people in the village and they informed them that Baja was there for them and the villages loved hearing the truck. When we spoke with the villagjes they assured us that they did not appreciate them. When they left, they left a six pack of beer right on the road so that everyone would see it...so disrespectful! There was very little garbage but we did clean up what was in our area. This site is beautiful and free, and we would like to keep it that way.

Stayed 2 night here, one with an other camper beautiful beach near the posada community. We take the coffee each morning in the restaurant with really good wifi in the community, very nice people. As we were close to the community, we went far in the bushes.Be careful if it's rainy. Lots of crabs and birds and of course dirt stuff, take your own please and this place will remain free. The first day a man came to sell us horses tour but no one else the 2 other day

Spent three nights here last week trouble free, this time me and another camper got hassled at midnight by a guy who only spoke Spanish to me but only spoke English to them. He told them he wanted to pay somebody to drive him to Mulege, he told me his car was broken down. obviously a troublemaker.

I left for a couple nights after that incident and then came back for another three nights which were once again great, with no more incidents.

Report Check-In

Just spent three nights here I camped as close to the bushes as I could and I did clean up some garbage. it’s a nice spot with a long tidal flat. it is pretty close to the highway but after dark that’s not a problem.

Great free beach! We stayed here a few days and really enjoyed it.

Beautiful quiet place. Stayed here in november, and again in April. Felt safe.

Report Check-In

The land other than the Federally Owned Beach is owned by 4 separate families The one that is is tolerant of short term overlanders is ONLY at the pin point.
Take only photos and leave only footprints and try to take any basura found... and they will stay happy for us to stay here.
Safe Free Quiet.
