Description

get off Route 10 for a few miles. This is worth the trip ... Beautiful view of the valley, beautiful pitches with table and bbq, white rocks. We were completely alone one night. super quiet and free. In addition the sheep come to graze. Strong Verizon 4g. Be careful (at night) after you exit 10... posted speed limit is still 70 but there are deer everywhere.
FRANCAIS

As been said it worth the extra mile,,,, we were 3 RV,,,, quiet and dark,,,,

Report Check-In

We loved this place to stay for the night! Google Maps told me it closed at 6:30 but it doesn't close. We arrived after 7:00. We pull a 22 foot trailer and were easily able to turn around. It was very quiet and there were only two other campers there.

Report Check-In

Nice place to enjoy the scenery, quiet, no turnaround but enough space for it. Covered picnic tables. Spending the night here

Report Check-In

As described by prior visitors. Only 1 other camper van in the parking area.
We would stay again. Yes it's windy💨
We stayed in a 2021 24J Winnebago View

Report Check-In

Amazing views. we always stop when on road trips. so quiet and peaceful. Better than some national parks.

Report Check-In

Good spot. Quiet and out of the way. A couple others hanging around as well.

Report Check-In

Beautiful. So quiet at night. There were a few other RVs. Would recommend

Report Check-In

As described. Great views. Quiet. Perfect stop.

Report Check-In

A few camper vans and us (travel trailer), had plenty of room. The view is worth it alone.

Report Check-In

no wonder this place has more reviews than some national parks. it's purely gorgeous, clean quiet, awesome views. probably 10 cars passed by from 6pm till 8 am, one stopped here for 5 minutes. you can't really compare this place to anything you find directly on i10

Report Check-In

Awesome place. Reached midnight and can't wait to see the sight in the morning. Very windy, some respite from the heat!

Report Check-In

Absolutely incredible views with a really nice sunset. I stayed here the night and if it didn't go so hot during the day, would've stayed another. State Trooper passed by but didn't say anything and left, so felt safer as a solo female traveler to know its checked in on. Picnic tables are fairly clean and well shaded. Well worth spending a night here!!

Report Check-In

Well worth getting off of I-10 for a quiet night here. Beautiful scenery and a sunset that was breathtaking. Sign at the entrance says no turn around for vehicles with trailers, but we had no issue with our 25ft bumper pull trailer. The lot was empty when we arrived and there is plenty of room to turn around. The sign is in a spot where you will have already pulled off and be entering the parking area, so really you’re already too far gone! A good idea to get turned when you arrive as you never know if someone might hamper it later. Had a peaceful night with a few cars going by and lots of crickets!

Report Check-In

Totally worth the 9 miles off of Interstate 10!
Beautiful view and sunset. 5 campers last night, one was a tent. Very windy last night but, otherwise quiet and dark.

Report Check-In

beautiful quiet peaceful. covered picnic tables and large trash cans. would be very hard to turn around if you're towing or a 5th wheel

Report Check-In

Beautiful. however, my RV broke down (won't go into gear) so I'm kind of stranded here because no mechanics near by. Hopefully get something figured out in the next couple days.

Report Check-In

At night, drive very slowly on the road coming in. As others have shared, there are many deer alongside the road. counted 12 not including the deceased. Safe travels

Report Check-In

Wow - I'm afraid of heights - and the view here - although gorgeous - made me a little sick. Trip down the hill was terrifying - speed limit of 70 on a road with switchbacks. I think I went 15-20 mph. But it was quiet and peaceful. Not a lot of grass to walk the dog - we managed.

Report Check-In

No bathrooms or anything really except picnic tables. . . but it was a beautiful overlook to the plain below. . . . January. 2023. Spent the night. . and caught a gorgeous sunset. It would be a perfectly fine "dark sky night" with the right moon phase.

Report Check-In

stayed here a couple nights ago and ot was so nice we stopped here on the way back

Report Check-In

No need to say anything or post a picture, everything from the previous comments are spot on. great spot to stop

Report Check-In

Stunning! The drive there was in tough fog, and like others have mentioned, be so careful about deer and other animals. Definitely had two huge deer walk into the road in the fog and driving much slower than the posted speed limit gave us time to stop. It’s worth the miles off of I-10 to wake up to the beauty of this spot. Very quiet.

Report Check-In

believe the reviews, highly recommended this stop. it is not big rig friendly, it would be difficult with trailer. I'm in a big truck camper, Host Yukon. had the whole place to myself and my dog. Plenty of dog walking areas. wind was super crazy when I arrived but died off after a couple of hours, I arrived about 3pm and stayed until 8am the next day. very little traffic. only one other vehicle pulled in and it was a local asking if I needed anything and to enjoy the park. scenery is beautiful.

Report Check-In

Lots of room and three picnic table pavilions in a chip and tar lot. So dark and quiet; good night’s rest. Two other RVs and we were well spaced apart. Lots of dog poop on the ground, so please be courteous and pick up after your pets.

Report Check-In

Must stop here!!! It’s gorgeous with a lot of space and super quiet, there was another rig that pulled in after me. So quiet! So Pretty!! Go out of the way and stop here!!!

Report Check-In

Fantastic location, well away from I-10 that you don't here any highway noise. There were two other motorhomes when I showed up, and plenty of room. Disappointingly I arrived after sunset, as pictures here have indicated a beautiful sunset. The night I stayed it was windy as hell, the cat was worried that we'd be blown over. Mobile service (Google Fi) was solid.

Report Check-In

Didn’t spend the night but this is a large area that is peaceful and beautiful. We have a large rig with a trailer that we have figured out we could back into it but would caution about any large turn around areas. Will stay here another time though!

Report Check-In

What a beautiful overlook! the reviews are true. there are a few covered picnic areas. quiet. one steady bar Verizon. trash cans. met some fellow ioverlanders. slept 12 peaceful hours.

Report Check-In

totally amazing and very quiet. there are 4 picnic sites and space for a few vans or s medium size rigs

Report Check-In

As reported, quite a nice spot. Great views. Quiet at night except for a few cars. Beautiful stars. Too bad there are no bathrooms. Recommend.

Report Check-In

We were here on a Sunday evening only to find the gate is closed, as well as Monday (a closed day).

Report Check-In

Top notch. Beautiful sunsets !! Lots of space. A little windy when we came.

Report Check-In

As described!! Amazing!! Great sunset! Nice views! Very quiet!

Report Check-In

As described by other recent. visitors, great overlook, lots of spots for RV parking (depending on how everyone parks). Free, no hassle. 4 covered tables, garbage cans. No water, no electricity. about 2 miles from Ft Lancaster Hist Park. Excellent

Report Check-In

I can’t stress enough how nice this place is.
No bathroom or water but the view is so worth the drive.

Report Check-In

No bathrooms but what a view. Flat ground and tons of space but only a handful of covered picnic table so come early for that and the sunset. Little wifi

Report Check-In

This spot is a boon-dockers paradise. Quiet place not too far off the interstate. We were one of 5 land yachts there and all had plenty of room to spread out and keep to ourselves. Glad we stopped here!

Report Check-In

Love this place!

My Google maps gps was acting squirrelly and sent me to the wrong spot - but I think it’s my personal device - so I didn’t end up rolling in until about 9:30 pm on a Wednesday night and the spot had about 8 other people overlanders of different shapes and sizes in for the night (skoolies, vans, travel trailers, converted shuttle buses, etc.). 2-3 others came in after me.

Everyone is very respectful - travelers keep this place very Tidy and the state (or county?) keeps up with emptying the trash cans.

Cops frequently monitor this place which is great and appreciated on one hand but they shine their bright lights into windows which is annoying on the other hand. . It was a full moon so I kept my curtains open to admire the the landscape and the bright lights blinded me. When I arrived I intentionally turned my lights down and even used just my parking lights to find my spot in order to
Respect my neighbors so the bright lights kind of rubbed me the wrong way haha!

Report Check-In

Nice lookout with several covered picnic areas and a good amount of parking.

No bathrooms that we saw.

Arrived around 5pm and caught the sunset going down over the ridge on the far side of the scenic overlook. Quiet and peaceful.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot. Super quiet. Dark now, so far we have the place to ourselves. No problem towing a 30ft TT. Plenty of room.

Report Check-In

As everyone has said… we arrived around 7p on a Sunday evening and we’re the third ones there. 1 bar of cell service.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot. 5 of us here tonight. what a view! Very windy. Picnic tables and trash cans.

Report Check-In

Everything has been said but really a great place worth the detour.

Tout a été dit mais vraiment une super belle place qui vaut le détour.

Report Check-In

As described. Great location to get off the highway and spend the night. Very clean.

Report Check-In

Very quiet picnic area a short distance from I-10 off of a loop for easy access back to I-10. We arrived around 5pm and two other travel trailers were already in the lot. It seems like the lot could hold 4 or so trailers. Even though there is sign stating no trailer turn around, you can still maneuver in the lot as long as it isn't too busy. We pulled in between the picnic tables and the guard rail separating the picnic areas and the main road. Both other trailers were parked in similar fashion. Little to no data cell signal in the area.

Report Check-In

hidden little gem for travelers on I10. watch for deer along road.

Report Check-In

Great location to spend the night while traveling through West Texas. Totally worth the 8 mile detour off I-10. We arrived well after dark with no issues. Road is good and paved the whole way. We did keep eye out for deer because of the warnings in other posts and we did see about 3 deer but they were all on the side of the road. We also saw a bunny but no sheep. We woke up to a marvelous view in the morning! We ate breakfast at one of the picnic tables. There were two other vehicles parked for the night. We went to the fort in the morning which is good if you are very interested in Texas history. They charge $4 per adult at the historic site but you can get in free for veterans or active military.

Report Check-In

Great spot! Fairly level, covered picnic tables, trash bins, Great sunset views. Best of all a steady wind making the Texas heat tolerable. Easily reached from I-10. No other cars even came by.

Report Check-In

Awesome historic spot at a scenic overlook, with picnic tables and trash bins. Close to a road but maybe 5 cars drove by the 12 hours we were there.

Report Check-In

The views at this place were amazing, would definitely camp here again. We were approached by a kind sheriff that informed us about the high volume of human and drug trafficking in the area, that the road this rest area is on is a hub for it. It's only 100 miles from the border. Other than that it was a really nice place to camp, had garbage cans and covered pavilions. Very little traffic, only one other rv parked there. Very windy but it was welcome against the TX heat.

Report Check-In

Picnic area, right off the road. Not much traffic, but very windy tonight. Beautiful view!

Report Check-In

Beautiful scenic parking area. Loved the view in the morning. one other van overnight. Lots of space and quiet overnight. As described the night sky view is excellent. We made a brief stop at the Lancaster Fort a few miles further down the road. Interesting local historical landmark.

Report Check-In

Super clean and quite. As described . Didn’t see to many deer coming in though. Few cars when we pulled in but each got their own picnic table / trash/bbq. Woke to a cool view

Report Check-In

Great spot. What other people said. I arrived at night. I’d recommend driving 45 mph down the road because of deer, but otherwise, not a problem to get here after dark. Super quiet, just a few other vans here. Stars were amazing and beautiful view to wake up to in the morning.

Report Check-In

Wow. So simple, you’d be likely to pass it by, but I’m so glad we stopped. I haven’t been this close to Orion since I was at the Planetarium as a kid. So silent, the only thing I could hear for miles was my own ears ringing. Thank you, Night!

Report Check-In

Stayed here overnight. Nice overlook , off a scenic route so not too much car traffic at night. Nice picnic tables plus garbage. GreT for an overnight stay on the drive in tx!

Report Check-In

This location is my 'go-to' overnight stopping point between my home in the Hill Country west of Austin and my land outside of Big Bend NP. It is almost always clean (by the same folks to take care of the nearby Rest Areas on I-10). It is also very quiet. On a typical weeknight, there might be less than a half-dozen cars passing by on the nearby road (TX 290), with slightly more on the weekend.
It is, in reality, one long, paved parking lot with a view. There is a high, chain-link fence on the uphill side that separates the area from the nearby ranch property. The downhill side is protected by a cliff that drops sharply to the road below, which descends on a shelf down to the Pecos River valley below. There are 4 covered, concrete picnic tables, each with a grill and a trash can. These are spaced out nicely, leaving room to park several rigs between. Verizon service is 2 bars 4G LTE.

Report Check-In

Beautiful sunsets and a great view. Highly recommend it. It can get a bit gusty up here though.

Report Check-In

Has everything but power and running water

Report Check-In

Amazing view! We got to see the sheep. Very quiet. Highly recommend.

Report Check-In

Great spot at a picnic area. Nice view. we
were the only ones there.

Report Check-In

Truly beautiful! Between last night and this morning saw at least 50 sheep, beautiful sunset, beautiful sunrise, clear starry night! Highly recommended

Report Check-In

Beautiful view, covered picnic tables with bbq pits. Found in the dark of the night. We had no idea what we would wake up to!! So glad we got the ioverlander app and found this place!

Report Check-In

Worth it. Quiet night beautiful stars and No people. Worth the trip off I-10. No issues. Just natural views and no lights anywhere.

Report Check-In

Nice to have 4 shelters, and garbage cans plus a charcoal grill.

Report Check-In

Nice stop for the night. very quiet. Historical area ad you can read in the other comments.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot!! Didn’t spend the night here, but definitely somewhere I’d car camp at in the future. Incredible view.

Report Check-In

Just as described. Perfect place to spend the night. Quiet and clean.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. Border patrol and local authorities patrol regularly, so we felt safe. Sign says no room for trailer turn-around, and if other vehicles are there, that would be true. We’re pretty small and had the place to ourselves, so turning around was no problem.

Report Check-In

Easy to access, large level area with a few covered picnic tables and trash cans

Great stop for a quiet night.

Report Check-In

It’s a bit far off the i10, so if it’s dark I recommend going to the rest area or the truck stop a little farther down the interstate. This was a great spot to stop for me as I arrived an hour and a half before sunset — beautiful and a lovely crescent moon rise shortly afterward. A nice break from parking lots if you can make the most of it and arrive before dark. Eat in Fort Stockton if your heading east — or be stocked with your dinner. You won’t find anything on the way after that. 2 bars of Verizon LTE once you reach the picnic area.

Report Check-In

All reviews are accurate. No bathrooms but there's a very bare visitor center for the actual fort 1.5 miles away.

Stayed 2 nights. Trash team came and said they're there 3 nights a week in winter. Didn't seem bothered we were camping at all. Only had one other vehicle stay the night on our second night but had about a dozen pull in and leave, mostly to stretch legs and strap things down. Do all you can to get here before dark - sunset is breathtaking with the view and the deer are no joke.

Report Check-In

worth it!
amazing view and clean &quiet.
fort 45min walk or 6min drive

Report Check-In

A bit run down but not horrible. The roofs and tables a bit due for an update but all usable. TZazaXzhe àview is amazing

Report Check-In

As described, nice flat spot with plenty of free parking. nice covered picnic tables and trash cans. View looking over the valley. Didn't see any sheep 😁 We got here about 5pm and parked so our Winnebago View had a nice view. Had a nice quiet night. Never saw another vehicle pull in here.

Report Check-In

great place, with great view. we stayed here one night. There are trash and a BBQ spots.

Report Check-In

About 18 miles off I10 if you’re driving east. If you’re driving in at night, be super aware of the deer! There is a lot crossing the road!! Fantastic place to stay for the night or maybe even longer. We were the only one parked there. Definitely the prettiest we passed on the 10 in Texas. Verizon does not get good service though.

Report Check-In

Beautiful views and very peaceful. Covered picnic tables but no other services.

Report Check-In

Wonderful views, free, quiet, a few sheep, great sunset. Tight to turn around.
