Something not right?

Description

The access road is in a dry river bed and is easily passable with a 2wd. It’s very well maintained. Once at the beach, the trail splits to the left. And we found a nice spot there. This is essentially right between Beach Camp and Rattelsnake beach.

Latest Check-Ins

The road in yesterday and today really required 4WD high clearance. Somehow we made it in and out in a Honda Odyssey with 4 inches of clearance, but it was a miracle. Fairly close to the highway there is a stretch of deep sand on the road with deep ruts. We hit it at speed and barely controlled the steering as we sledded with the van, thoroughly bottomed out the whole way through. After that the beach roads are a breeze except for lots of scratches on the sides from branches.

I don't know why people are posting that this is a sandy beach and there's turtles around because it is a rocky beach and there are no turtles around no sand anywhere to be found except for the Arroyo coming into this place still beautiful it's like I'm camping out on the shores of Lake Havasu on a windy day

This is NOT big rig friendly. There are two spots/ roads right before the beach that are deep sand and one is on an steep incline. We were barely made it to the beach…didn’t have good feelings about it. So we turned around and that’s when we got stuck pulling our 20ft travel trailer. The beach really isn’t worth the headache. There were also some muddy spots at the beach which concerned us. The shoreline is very small and lots of loose rocks. Definitely not worth it and this should not be pinned as big rig friendly.

beautiful spot! lots of birds & a sandy beach to walk on. however, not 2wd accessible. we got stuck on the way out so either be 4x4 or ready to get stuck & have the right recovery items.

Report Check-In

the wash (road) is okay, we made in and back no problem in our dodge grand caravan, however the couple we had camped with was not so luck, there 2wd protomaster got stuck trying to leave and it took a couple hours to get them on thier way with the use of shovels and traction boards. The spot is amazing though, the worst part of the road is just before the end of the wash (the start of the beach)

This was a lovely wild camp spot. We walked along way south on the beach. There are beautiful views of the islands off the coast and mesas all around. We saw one other camper. We also saw many Great Blue Heron.

Report Check-In

The road in has a firm base despite running down a sandy arroyo. In 2022 the entrance to this beach is easily seen thanks to cement abutments alongside the highway that act as an informal pull out. The entrance to the beach is the sandy road next to the cement strips lining the paved highway.
There is little shade on the beach but you can get close to the water’s edge. Beware the soft spots!
You can easily walk to El Quemado beach at low tide along the strand as the wet sand is quite firm. We inspected the spaces there and decided to move after one night for the shade and privacy.

We followed one of the reviews and took a dirt road by km87. We were coming from the south.
The beach is beautiful, looking at the islands across. We found a spot before rattlesnake beach and got to see a couple of whales from the shore in the distance when we took a walk onto rattlesnake Beach. This is when we discovered we weren't alone on the area: along the beach, camping spots hidden by the vegetation lined up. All was quiet and we met a few campers walking who pointed at the whales we might have missed otherwise. The night was quiet and we felt safe there. The sunset is beautiful over the sea and the islands across. We would have stayed longer if we had the time to.
The beach is a rocky beach and perfect to enjoy wildlife.

We stayed south of the dry River indicated on the map- we went right where most seem to go left. Beach here is rocky and not great for swimming. 24’ Class C towing a jeep. Amazing place. Saw whales, dolphins. Highly recommend

This is actually for Juncalito camp. Went to try out two wheels campground from reviews on here. Didn’t realize it wasn’t on the beach, I’m sure it’s a great place but we wanted to be on the water. We tried out the wild camp next to it. Had to go back to hwy 1 and enter where the blue sign is. We were the only ones on the beach, very quiet and safe. There is a little lighthouse that flashes all night so I suggest camping the furthest you can from it. We went all the way to the end, there is a palapa there.

As described except we went right and parked on the small rocky point. No sand here. It is Semana Santa and we were told the beaches may be closed except for paid campgrounds. Nobody bothered us here. Two other cars left at dusk and a jet ski up the beach played in the water until dark. That was disturbing to the otherwise complete solitude here during the busiest week. No trash except one plastic bottle we picked up. Easy 2WD access for Promaster Van. Magical sunset today!

Beautiful sandy beach. Interesting snorkeling. We heard it was closed but no one bothered us except the goats.

AmazIng campsite. Sand at the beach is soft but we were perfectly fine in two 2WD Sprinters. We drove halfway north up the beach upon arrival at the water. Quiet, and unbelievably beautiful with the insane mountains as a backdrop.

road entrance to "beach camp 2" is in the middle of the riverbed dip on the hwy. slow bumpy dirt road but solid. 2wd fine.

amazing camp spot. turtles are supposed to be showing up any day now according to a local, so watch out for that if driving on the beach. we just saw a humpback whale swim past!

from the access road, we turned right at the beach to find a more secluded spot. soft sand and rock means 4x4 recommended. could find some spots with 2wd closer to beach entrance though

Report Check-In

Arrived after Semana Santa, so there was a bit of trash around. Quiet as we were the only ones there. Had a road pal with 2wd van that got a bit stuck after turning too hard on soft sand, but if you stay on the hard pack, you should be fine.

Beach Camp was full so we went back to Mex 1 and took the first trail towards the beach. The trail is in a dry river bed but can be driver with a 2wd. Once at the beach, the trail splits to the left. And we found a nice spot there. This is essentially right between Beach Camp and Rattelsnake beach. Free
