Description

From the paved road, you come through the beach access Rd 2 directly on the beach. The sand is very hard packed, so you can drive with any vehicle on the beach- from bicycle til big RV- no 4WD necessary. On the beach you have two options.

Right hand (South direction) you have an beach with FREE parking and it's allowed to stay overnight, stay after the marker 104, then the beach control don't care about you. On the right side, you only have garbage bins.

Left hand (North direction) , you will need an 'Beach parking permit'. You can get this for example at the Walmart customer service (https://www.cctexas.com/services/general-government/beach-parking-permits) it costs 12$ and is valid a whole calendar year.On the left side you will find then garbage bins and porta pottys. You can drive up 8 miles long and searching a nice place. it's allowed to stay on one place max. 3 days. For me in the winter time, it was very nice. In the summer I think it will be very hot. There is no shade at all! I stayed here now in whole 6 nights in my Campervan, nobody bothered me.

CAREFUL YOU WILL GET STUCK!!! Very nice local had to pull me out… This was after AAA was unable to do so with their tow truck due to deep sand.

Excellent beach camping spot!! Spring Tides are very high so be cautious.

Report Check-In

I’m only posting to update that the camping spot is still current read the previous description as it is extremely informative and spot on!

Report Check-In

This was a wonderful spot. Stayed only 1 night. Would have stayed longer but the tide was encroaching the dunes and my van is not built to float. Will definitely return.

Report Check-In

Camping is permitted between beach marker 100 and the state park boundary (marker 104)

Must have $12 beach permit displayed on windshield.

If entering from access road, turn right. There is a large sign explaining current condition and beach rules.

Be mindful of the posted rules, and remember that you need to park on the surfside of the roadway. Beach is typically hard packed and can be driven all the way from the north jetty through the state park.

No Camping in the state park; rangers patrol after dark.

Today is my third day here. Very chill. Folks driving thru are friendly and mostly gone by dark. Good Verizon signal!!

Beautiful beach camping. Stayed two nights

Report Check-In

We arrived at the beach around 3p.m. the state park rangers came around to check who was at the marker within the state park. They told us to go get the beach pass for camping overnight on the city beaches, no overnight camping within the state park on the beach. Just get the pass and be legit.

Currently staying at this free beach.
The directions are a little confusing, but drive down Access Road 2 until you get to the sand, and then turn right (south) along the beach.
You can park for free along this beach up to the sign for Mustang State Park, beyond which a permit is required, and there is no camping.
This beach is subject to the tides and the weather. Consult the tide charts here: https://www.tideschart.com/United-States/Texas/Nueces-County/Mustang-Island/
Weekdays are fairly quiet and hardly anyone was camping on the beach while we were there; weekends are different and it gets busy with day visitors.
There is good Verizon service.

Came in right before dark on Christmas Eve Eve and didn’t stop for a permit based on other reviews saying you didn’t need one at the end of the year. I drove up and parked at mile marker 95. This morning the park ranger stopped by and told me to move closer to the water and away from the dunes. You must park near the tide line, 50’ from water, NOT near the trash cans and mile markers.

Also, she sold me a $12 permit (cash only) and said max 3 days stay and 6 days max stay per month but my permit is good for all of 2021.

A bit too sandy to the south of Access Rd 2. Driving to the north was much better for my Class B Travato.

We stopped to get a permit at one of the local gas stations and were told that no permit was required until January 2. Benefit of coming here late December

We went about 100 yards in and stopped along the dunes.

Sleeping to the sounds of the crashing waves. Beautiful.

Tide was too high to access the beach (today is full moon), so went at Port Aransas beach instead.
