Description

Wonderful place on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro just before the National Park. Solar hot showers, water and a shelter where you can light a fire for BBQ and sit and have dinner. The shelter has power and lights. Camping is $10pppn & chalet is $12 pppn. Nice lawns and garden. You will probably have the place to yourself. The man who looks after the place is great. We recommend this place.

The bridge in the village is sometimes blocked for a few hours because they are building a new bridge there. But when we arrived at the roadblock, we immediately found someone who showed us the way up to the campsite. If it's blocked, you go up on the right side in the village, and the route Google is showing you also works. Otherwise, just ask someone!
The campsite is beautiful and made with a lot of love. Linda, the manager, warmly welcomed us and said she would be there anytime if we would need help. There is a hotel close by where you can get WiFi and drinks and there is also a local place on the other side of the road, where you can have breakfast and dinner for an affordable price. We also did a coffee tour with some locals, which I can just recommend. Just ask for BABU Kahawa.
They have warm showers and clean toilets. There are also shelters for sitting and you have water at the campsite to do the dishes. Beautiful place!!!

Sorry to say but this was definitely a red card. Didn’t feel safe at all with this staff. Drunk guy staring at us, no preparations the place looked deserted. A shame because speaking to the owner (who was out of town) seemed really nice and friendly and so could the place itself be. Hopefully things chance

Great camping spot outside the park with a nice grassy area to set up camp. There is a dedicated area where you are allowed to braai but you need to pay for this and there is no other place to braai..... Hot showers with nice toilets, this is a place worth camping at and is a fraction of the price of camping in the park. The owners son, Anthony was amazing in assisting us with info of the area and also sort out our data issue with vodacom 😊. The cost is 10USD per person per night to camp, THS 5000 car levy( this is apparently a government requirement, we are not sure if this was legit or not?), THS 5000 to use the braai and THS5000 should you need fire wood.... This was nice for a one night stop... If you continue towards the park just around the corner from the camp site there is a clearing on the left hand side of the road where on a clear day you will be able to get photos of Kili

Unfortunately had a bad experience here, the owner does not control who lets you into the campsite and shows you around. We were met at the gate by a young man who showed us around, opened the main gate and generally acted like he worked there. He even took us past the older caretaker and at no time was there any hint he did not belong. He claimed the fees had gone up to USD15pp and after much discussion we paid. 10minutes later the older caretaker arrived with a receipt for USD10pp. When confronted about this the owner claimed she did not know who the youngster was and could not refund the money overcharged. We left but short of the overcharged amount.

A very nice find. We were the only people. Hot shower is power heated. Just check that it is switched on. You can hear the bush babies at night. We could plug into power.
