As the title says, this is a big grassy flat area right next to the river. Partly visible from the road (no problem out here), smaller cars and vans can hide away between some bushes and will not be visible from the road. Big rigs should be able to access this area. Good starting point for the "Sendero alta vista". We were there when there was no wind but bushes should provide some shelter. Some mosquitos and horseflies when we were there because of the above mentioned lack of wind.

Open space - very nice place - flat - next ton the river , protected from wind
Report Check-InBeautiful, flat, grassy, with trees for protection, plenty of space for vans and tents. Tons of mosquitoes. Water from river Mayer.
Report Check-InLovely grassy area just south of the bridge. Great views. River pretty high on our visit but perfectly 2WD accessible. Few small flies. Good entel. Not a car all night!
Report Check-InWas perfect to chill for 2 nights after all this road. We don’t have a 4x4 and it was perfectly fine for us. Good 3G (better than in the village) for Entel and Movistar.

BE CAREFUL!!!
If you don’t have a 4x4, analyze well the place before going down. We got stuck in the mud for a while. It doesn’t look like it from a far but the grass area can be swamp!
But looks really nice when well dried!
very nice, we didn't see mosquitos or horse fly but few cows, curious and friendly.
Report Check-InWe were prepared for the mosquitos because of the previous comments, and they were no joke. Don’t go here unless you have a good bug spray or mosquito net. Otherwise it’s a perfect location, large area mostly hidden from road, grassy and flat and great views.
Report Check-InVery nice place, even if it’s close to the road there is practically no traffic on this road in the evening and at night. First cars can be heard at around 8-8:30.
Report Check-InSite ideals Paw pass the days of the region. Incredible photos, wind protection and close to good walks. Mosquitoes are present depending on the time and wind. Very good.
Report Check-InWe spended two nights here. Lot of mosquitoes and if hot also horse flyes. Nice view of glaciers. Traffic at road during day. Entel and Movistar mobile signal. Very flat with nice grass. Accessible for all kinds of vehicles. Possible to find wind protection (depends on wind direction) Lot of calafate berries.
Report Check-InNo mosquitoes, but some horseflies. I guess that all depends on the season. In strong winds the dust from the road can blow through here, even when no cars are passing.
Report Check-InVery nice place to stay, the best around here in my opinion. We stayed several days, no problem. Great view on the mountains and glacier. There are spaces (with fire ring) for several cars and depending on which one you choose you are almost totally hidden from the road, but the traffic is very low during the day. You can access the river, but careful, strong currents. Some mosquitos and these so annoying horseflies!
Report Check-InLarge flat area next to the river. Prone to flooding in the rain but the river rises slowly. Mostly visible from the road unless you hide among the bushes.
Fewer mosquitos than the site down near the ferry.
Police came by and asked if I needed anything while I was pinned down in the rain.
People drive round the track off the road at the end of the bridge so you are more visible than you think.
Stayed there three nights. Not much traffic.
4km from town so easy to leave camp for a short time to pick up food etc.
Good place, flat with grass, firm ground for big motorhomes, next to the river. The only negative point is that there are many mosquitos. We stayed one night.
Report Check-InIndeed great spot, great view, despite the flies and mosquitos. Be aware that fire are not allowed. We were warned by rangers at night.
Report Check-InGreat spot for an overnight. Gorgeous mountain views, and right on the river. Convenient spot for hiking the Sendero Alta Vista in the morning. A few bugs but not too bad. Recommended!
