Description

We chose to camp here to get out of the wind. Good morning light (and beautiful sunrise view!). Short walk to see sunset. Free.

we stayed here for two nights. there is a little rock shelter that protects from the wind that picks up at 6pm and that is STRONG

Report Check-In

Great spot to park out of the wind to watch sunset and sun rise.

We drove up on the island (2WD, doable this time a year), hiked to the top (there's a pretty clear path, just take enough water and sunscreen and wear closed shoes as there's a slippery gravel part). Enjoyed it a lot, but ended up not staying on the island as there were a lot of annoying flies everywhere. Probably cause there was no wind. So we just parked off shore. Very nice views, no tourists, free. If you're debating whether it's worth it to pay the 30 bob for Inca Huasi, well you probably support the locals, the toilets are very clean, but this island has the same cacti and views without the tourists.

pasamos 2 noches increíbles, hay una parte en la isla pescado que tiene un campamento y es posible hacer fuego, se encuentran algunos cactus muertos y queman muy bien, también nos sirvió de refugio para el viento!!!

Better than the touristy Isla Incahuasi, where you have to pay to enter. Isla del Pescado is free and home to giant cactus about 5m tall. Amazing sunset. We had the island for ourselves.

this is the spot! you can get off the salt and up onto the beach, or go up a bit and you can make it onto the ridge. if coming from the track to the north, aim for the low spot between the two islands and you will see an obvious track. definitely scout this out before attempting! we parked about 200m away and walked the road to the beach. the salt is cracked here and you can see the bottom. the dirt is damp, but firm so we drove onto the island. we are 4 tons so we crashed through the last 5m of salt but it was not muddy this time of year and was able to make it up onto the ridge without issue. you can see sunrise and sunset from the same place.

we camped approx.500m out on salar. really nice island to explore. we saw lots of corrals , cactee and several rabbits. Nice little marked trail to the top of the hill.

Report Check-In

Great spot with beautiful sunset and excellent wind protection, we camped with one véhicule roof to tent and a tent on the floor with rather leveled ground. Not too cold at this time of year

Report Check-In

as described I stayed close to this tent camping in small dry stone walled enclosure with fire Pitt. very quiet on a night a very good natural wind break

I was on a solo bike tour from Ecuador to Ushuaia. I spent 1 night on Isla del Pescado. This had several good wild camps on the NE side. Several had been smoothed out by others. The best ones were about 10 m above the salt flats and faced E/NE. Good dawn views and warming sun. Easiest to enter the Isla from the NE, to avoid pushing up a small hill from the SW. No charge to camp.

Water: none today after Llica. The next available water would be at Isla de Incahuasi.

This was an excellent wild camp site. Pros: peaceful (I had the island to myself); located 10 m above the salt which provided good views to NE and E (to watch the sunrise); sheltered from the prevailing NW winds; easy access to road to Incahuasi. Cons: Since I had entered from the SW it was necessary to push my loaded bike up a rocky track and down the NE side to reach the campsites. Not hard.

Isla de Incahuasi, where I camped the next day, had more services but was much less scenic, peaceful or romantic, with no campsite views. That I rate 5/10, whereas the Pescado overnight I rate 9/10.

we camp a little further of this point, idéal wind protection to popup.

beautifull spot to camp, beautifull view and sunset. we made a fire.

alone in the Salar. easy drive to come here in this period. no water.

we stay here 2 days and see nobody!

Report Check-In

We camp a bit east site of the GPS to get wind protection. Nice quite awesom sunset and morning sunlight.

Report Check-In

We ended up doing two nights here, at the northern end of the island. Very scenic and perfect for sunsets.

Report Check-In

Free. If tent camping there is a rock wall shelter around a tent pad. Perfect. Creates a good wind break and you are warmed by the sunrise. Saw no one.
