Description

ADMIN NOTE: No overnight camping allowed, please respect the wishes of the locals.

June 5, 2018: Now closed to overnight camping and motor homes. No more authorizations granted.

AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED
This perfect city-location ist still available for all-size RV´s (except on weekends) but they seem to enforce the requierement to get an authorization by the Director del Parque before arrival. We had been asked before but it was ok to tell we have it. This time (03/13/17) the police showed up and told us to go to the headquarter to ask for permission otherwise we had to leave. It turned out to be no real problem. You only have to send an email to the Director Mauricio Fabry with cc to Gloria Mella ([email protected], [email protected]) and ask for "Autorizacion to estacionar con motorhome en el estacionamiento del teleferico" add date of arrival, number of travellers, Name of the owner of the rig and number-plate.
We received the permission a few hours later by email.
Please respect this guideline of the Park Authority to avoid problems for yourself and further travellers

Big dirt parking lot really close to the center, with security until 1am. Pretty green area as it is one of the main entry points to the parque Cerro San Cristobal.

- at 10 min walk from the metro Los Leones

- no official cost (surprise), but a tip for the guard is expected. Hopefully everyone who stays here will tip reasonably

- the site gets very busy with overlanders, so we need to make it worth their while letting us all use the facility. In BA a similar safe/central spot costs over 300 Ar Pesos per night!
- quiet at night
- NO BIG RIGS AT WEEKENDS!

we tried every trick in the book. but guard was ademant as of May 1 no more motorhomes allowed. I may have had the wrong guard on the day but you may look for alternative just in case. we did sent email but no response. after second email we received response and confirmation that motorhomes are no longer allowed. real shame as it looked like a great spot. i have send copy of email to moderators. so they can publish if they wish.

No more camping here :( we just talked to the guards and there has been a change of policy in the last few weeks and the park is no longer allowing overnight camping or motor homes in the parking lot. Even Patricio is gone (the fellow who was in the old bus in the corner for the last 15 years).

Report Check-In

Such a nice place to stay. No need to email ahead of time, we just showed up and he immediately let us in and pointed us to the right hand side of the lot to camp. We tipped him that day, stayed one night. Not too much privacy even on a Monday, pretty busy area until dark. Bathrooms are on the other end open and clean free of charge. Great to walk around the park or even the area.

We stay Here for two weeks, because we needed to. Perfect location, we could do gym every day with The workout machines in the Park and oír doggie could run free. We felt safe and confortable. The only bad thing Here Is the dirt, but There Is a Lot of green around and you are in a Beautiful neiberhood .

Report Check-In

Stayed here two nights. My neighbor emailed for permission, never got an answer. I didnt and nobody asked for it. Maybe because it is holiday time. For the same reason there was space to park all day.

Report Check-In

Super parking calme et sécurisé, proche ville et musées.

Report Check-In

les motorhomes sont autorisés bien sûr. 🚐 👍

Report Check-In

très bonne place pour bivouacer sur santiago. pas besoin d'autorisation. parking gardé. un chilien vit dans son bus depuis 14ans sur ce parking sans problème. calme même le week-end. ne pas hésiter ✌️

Best city camping we had so far! Just the procedure with the email is not quite clear. I sent several emails and didn't get a reply, but the guard also never asked for it, so no problem in the end.

Report Check-In

Camped here with previous authorization via email. Dusty open parking lot. Not a great place for those with roof top tents as it doesn’t feel safe to leave tent setup while exploring around the city. It gets very busy early morning and weekends. Good free option in the city though.

We really enjoyed staying here, close to nature and in the centre of this Metropole almost for free. Quite amazing when you think about it. Please tip the guards generously since they are very friendly. Saturday and sundays are busy indeed and it fills up quickly in the morning, but in general if you wait till the evening to enter the parking lot there will be space again.
Enjoy! And also check out our entry for Tim the Dutch Carpenter when you need some woodwork ✌🏼

(Freelance Dutch carpenter living in Santiago, working for himself. Really nice and trustworthy guy. The contact to go to if you have any woodwork in your van, or when you need a conversion in your car (like a build in bed or cabinets). He lives about ten minutes from the park, does not have his own repair shop but is flexible to come to the park or drive to a Sodimac or Easy to get materials. He is quite quick with responses and speaks English.

His chilean number is: +56 9 4668 8424.
Email: [email protected]
His address is: Av. Ricardo Lyon #2050, depto 406, Providencia, Santiago de Chile.
And he is on Facebook too check him out @TheDutchCarpenter

An urban camping classic! We emailed, got confirmation in a few hours and were welcomed in with open arms by the guards. We tipped 1,500sol per day. We didn't hunt out close toilets, but the mall is only 5 minutes walk away so we went there.

The guy that lives in the bus in the corner is great fun to chat to - he has an exercise bike and a library in there!

Report Check-In

For us one of the best city camps ever. Safe, practically for free, bathrooms and wifi closeby, centrally located and most of all a great park with bike and hiking trails, amazing views of the city and other facilities. Very quiet at night, busy during weekends but this is a crowd of hikers, family and bikers. Nothing to complain about.

Report Check-In

Stayed here 3 nights, arrived on Thursday, pretty empty then. Costanera mall super close with fastest wifi, and many shops, cinema and grocery store (jumbo) metro station close as well (towards the mall) 660 each ride. Can get to Plaza the armas from here, we did the free walking tour at 10 it was very good. Cerro san Cristóbal is pretty and nice to see the city at night. Loved santiago! The restrooms were super clean at the park with seats and toilet paper! We tip the guards generously as well :) oh and yes Saturday and Sunday is CRAZY!!! I

We spent three quiet nights here.. very friendly guard, and clean bathrooms at park entrance with drinkable water faucets. Gets quite busy in the afternoon/early evening so you may be turned away if it's full but should clear out by 7.30pm. We used this as our base and left the car here during the day and walked to Providencia.. the Costanera Center is a huge shopping mall with retail outlets and food court, and has a Jumbo, and Easy if you need any supplies. Los Leones or Tobalaba are the closest metro stations

Report Check-In

After the redesign of the parking lot it may be difficult to find a spot to park a big rig. especially as the teleferico is now running and the place is busier as it used to be. But just in case, parking in the small streets next to it is supposed to be safe and quiet during the night.

Report Check-In

stayed for 5 Days, 3 of them sleeping in another place. guards took care for safety, very quiet part of the City, but bellavista and Plaza de Armas are in Walking distance(1h) ;) payed 9000C$ (13€) in total, VERY cheap for Chile. parked directly behind the Big Blue Bus(a nice guy living inside).

Report Check-In

Great find in the city centre, take your own toilet paper for the toilets. Very busy with cyclists and runners on a Saturday morning. Tipped the guard on the way out

Report Check-In

Definitely the best place to stay in Santiago! Big parking for the nearby park, restrooms available at the park entrance, 1km walk to the next metro station ($660 per ride), huge mall with a food curt in walking distance, quiet at night and during the week but busy at weekends. The guards don't like to have big rigs here at the weekends therefore, please respect that! Otherwise this place won't be available for overlanders for long anymore... Don't forget to tip the guards! 😀

Report Check-In

Nice enough spot, left alone for the 5 days I was there, few others staying here at the same time. Nice and close to the CBD, tipped the guard on my way out as normal.

Report Check-In

A great spot. This place is getting popular with overlanders. There were 5 here on one night, including 2 very big-rigs, taking up a fair bit of the parking space. Not sure they'll allow this to continue indefinitely - hopefully everyone who stays here will tip the guard reasonably, which may help to preserve this great central facility for other overlanders.

Report Check-In

We stayed here 2 nights. You have to give a 'propina' when you leave at the guard do no fix price (and free if you don't give a propina). We left our jeep here during the day too and took the metro @ Los Leones (15min walk) to go to the center. The road is very quit at night, and it's a safe neighbeirhood. There are toilets at the entrance of the park (1min walk) Of all the ioverlander spots in Santiago this one was the best. (They are starting to build 'tele sieges' so there is building-noise in the morning. They started at 8 o'clock)

Report Check-In

nice spot, but avoid weekends as there are many events in the park, the parking fills quickly and the guards might may not let you in.

Report Check-In

Large dirt parking lot at the foothill of a huge recreational area/park. There's a modern, wooden, toilet building to the left, next to a small police station. The park is great for hikes through a forest overlooking the city. Parking is free, but people give the guards a tip. We asked the parking attendant if it was ok to park overnight and it seems fine. There's a friendly man who lived in a blue bus in this lot for ten years! Gets very busy on weekends though. May be hard to find a space then. In case there's also plenty of street parking in the area in addition to the lot. Loved the park. Really pleasant stay!

Report Check-In

Good spot with easy access to shopping and the Metro, and a nice park to walk the dogs. Free bathrooms are at the main entance to the park. We did not ask anyone for permission, but Patricio who lives in the big blue bus in the parking area told us we could stay there no problem. Free.

Report Check-In

It's a nice places to be. On the weekend it's a little bit busy but after the sun goes down it's quiet. On the left site ( the opposite from from the park entrance ) we have a very good WiFi right in the camper.

Report Check-In

- at 10 min walk from the metro Los Leones
- you need to be allowed to park by the manager of the restaurant nearby.
- no official cost (surprise), but a tip for the guard looked like to be welcome.
