Description

This is an urban park with 8 full service sites for RVs (water, 30/50 amp power, sewer) and 4 full service tent camping sites (30 amp power, water) Hot water showers and bathrooms. Price is free, but online reservations may be required 10-14 days in advance. Rangers live on site and patrol constantly. There are a bunch of free charcoal grills, playgrounds, sand volleyball and tennis courts, archery range, picnic areas (except oddly no picnic tables at campsites!), disc golf course, historic monuments, and wooded hiking trails. However, for families and people new to camping, this is a good starter park.

Can’t beat the free price. Make a reservation well in advance and print out the form. Hot water showers aren’t working as of 4/16/23.

I requested reservations here for two weeks from now. They called and asked if I had full hookups (self-contained). I said I had a portable toilet and would like electricity. I have a minivan camper conversion. They rejected my reservation request. I was told that they only allow RV’s that has sewer, electricity, and water hookups. I thought that was odd because their websites says they allow tent camping and have bathrooms.

Great place to relax. Free electricity, water, dump. Ridiculous 2 week reservation in advance system. We arrived and was able to fill up the same day form but the ranger gave us a hard time. Only stayed 4 nights because it’s fully booked.

Free up to a week per year. 10-14 days advance reservation "might" be required. If arrive without reservation, pull in empty site, a ranger will approach you in a pick up truck immediately (park has very heavy patrol). Ask nicely if can fill out form if any site available (may be incompetent ranger doesn't know, so just instruct him there is a form for same day arrivals). Ranger might assign everyone as close together as possible: Ask otherwise at first. All sites are level, have water, power, sewer, concrete pad but no picnic tables which is odd. Checkout 10am. Gate locks at 10pm. Many toll roads around Houston. Park setting, is large park that has some wooded trails. Quiet setting particularly non-holiday/weekends. Would be super awesome if not for unreasonable reservation time frame and no picnic tables. Reservations:

Staff was helpful and very pleasant. We did not have a reservation (what a dumb system! Taking half a star for that. Making campers wait two weeks does not seem an effective way to combat homeless people sleeping in their cars), but the employee making rounds brought us a quick form to fill out and confirmed with supervisor it was ok we stay. Free hookups, clean bathrooms, hot showers. There was a troubled homeless lady on the grounds but she wasn’t dangerous; another employee got an outreach group to come help her out instead of calling police. Overall Great experience.

Very clean and organised.Hot showers. Free.I was bike touring and filled out their silly form online. It said wait 2 weeks for confirmation of reservation.I needed to stay the next day so went there anyway. No one there so no problem camping. The rangers haven't a clue about booking or checking in.Noisy spot too-lots of air / car traffic Good over all!

We picked this spot out a week ago and just noticed on our way to it today that it requires reservations. We were very lucky and the park manager was on site and he was so gracious to “let” us stay at their free park. “We usually only let RV’s stay here, but I’ll make an exception this time!” We have a converted 6x12 cargo trailer, but it & my tow vehicle are both 2018’s, & far from the Redneck look they will have in 5 years, but anyways the park is pretty and they lock the gate at 10pm. My shower was warm & bathrooms were clean, but that all closes at 9:30pm. Well I was in the shower first, then my wife and daughter started 15 minutes later in the women’s room & said theirs was cold. 30 & 50 amp hookups & 120’s, water & The dump is about 25 feet behind your camp to keep the smell down! There are 85 with the above amenities and we did see a tent in the grass across the road. Very nice place on an upscale outer edge of Houston. Very grateful for our spot and I would stay here again if they “let”me.

Free campground with no entrance fees or vehicle fees, but you must reserve online far in advance and cannot arrive at the park without a reservation, as there is no public office here to make reservations. Must be done online WAY beforehand. Aside from that inconvenience, the park is pretty large and well kept. Full hookup tent and RV camping, clean bathrooms, good experience for no cost at all

This was our first campground in the US after picking our truck up in Galveston. There are a bunch of places for bbqing and day camping; tent campers may be able to setup there.
