iOverlander cannot verify if wild camping is permitted at this location. It is your responsibility to verify local laws or obtain consent before staying the night.
If you can sleep in your vehicle, you can overnight before the customs gate on the Malawi side of the border. Very quiet at night and secure bcs lots of military / border guards around. If going to Mozambique, rather overnight right after leaving Malawi, as the Mozambique side does not offer a big parking area.

We were coming from Malawi and wanted to enter to Mosambik when the system broke down. So after waiting for the whole afternoon the police at the border in Mosambik told us to go back to the Malawi side.
A lot of friendly Military is there who told us that it’s no problem to sleep here and made us feel very safe.
The night was quite noisy but I guess that’s what you’re already expecting. But no issues and safe
