it does not looks like at the photos anymore (no doors, no windows, bigger mess) but its still a better option than sleep outside.

Report Check-In

Abandoned house. From my opinion, use it in emergency, no more : big house without any door, without most of the windows.

It’s really messy inside (wood, glass, metals, lots of constructions stuff destroyed, etc).

As a cyclist, we are inevitably a bit used to these somewhat dilapidated shelters. But I arrived at night (21pm) and I found this one very creepy.

My point is it seems very useful to organize to sleep at the San Sebastian border 15km further east.

Report Check-In

Possible to sleep inside, plenty of space

Report Check-In

I crossed the border around 10:30pm and was looking to stay in a hostel or hotel on the Chile side for the night. The one across the street had a few lights on but no one to be found. I ended up asking the late night cop on duty for recommendations, and he pointed me to the abandoned house next door and said it was fine to camp there. The cop let me use his phone charger in the station and made me hot water for tea too. There's a faucet outside the police station for drinking water but it doesn't work very well. The house is dirty but a nice spot for 1 night to shelter from the weather in this area.

I was on a solo bike tour from Ecuador to Ushuaia. I stopped here to check it out. It was in OK condition. A bit messy in the passageways. OK wind and rain protection. 4 usable rooms, fairly clean. Space for 12+ cyclists + bikes inside. Some windows broken on W side. I would happily have camped here but wished to continue to the Overnight Room, AR Border Post 14 km E. This place would likely have been more peaceful, but lacked the 220V, bathrooms and hot water for washing.

Report Check-In

Casa de ciclistas. Up to 10 places or more if not mounting the tent.

Report Check-In

No charm but ok for a night: just arrived for the night; the abandoned house is now a bar/restaurant/hostel ("Hostería La Frontera"). Anyway, it looks like it will provide some shelter from the wind (which in this region is so intense as to bother us even inside our motorhome), so I went around to the Carabineros (police station) and asked permission to overnight, which was granted. BTW, there's a water fawcet right besides the entrance to the Carabineros; didn't ask for water as tonight we don't need any, but they were so simpáticos that I've no doubt that they would allow me to take some if asked.

It is super windy for moto in that area; from Ushuaia to punta arenas, ferry was out of service because of strong wind. Just crossed chile border, then quick found a place to camp a night next to police station the abandoned house.
You can ask for the water from police; btw police allowed me to stay
