Description

Nice L.A. County park and campground on Castaic Lake Lagoon (below the actual lake). This is mere minutes from interstate 5. I'm sure this is a very popular place during the summer but when we were here late October it was empty.

Three large areas, each a bit different. Trailers and large RVs would work best at the first one. Tents and car camping just about anywhere. We liked the last one best. All have picnic tables, fire rings and trash cans. Some have water and there's a fish cleaning sink at each of the three areas that could be used to do dishes. Separate bathrooms at each of the three areas. The middle ones have four pay showers.

After-hours entry is fine. They cruise thru in the morning and leave a notice to pay by 10am on your windshield. Cost is $30 per night, they take cash or cards. We saw police drive thru multiple times throughout the night.

Ok, so this is a parking lot by Castaic Lake. It is not a campground, you have been warned. I would only recommend this site for people who do not have any options to go offroad, and really it's designed for RV's. Kids walked right through our camp, under and around our vehicles. Yes, the lake is a nice sight. Also there was some sort of drive-in movie playing across the lake and we could see it, and hear it until 11pm. The restrooms smelled awful, but did have plumbing and urinals and toilets. If you need a place to sleep at night and you have an RV, it's not bad, but if you're sleeping in a tent, I hope you like festival camping. also, we were in spot B32 and there was a street lamp that lit the entire area like it was daylight. If you choose to sleep here be prepared.

Gorgeous sunset on the lagoon! it is parking lot style camping overlooking the water. very nice for a one-night stop but I probably wouldn't stay here much longer than that. clean bathrooms, no showers. they pulled in after dark, there was no one to take a fee, left early in the morning.

about half of the sites were taken on a Saturday evening. local volunteer was selling firewood. nobody was working the booth at the entrance gate. headed to the main office on the west side of lake to pay.

Report Check-In

Plenty of space and clean facilities. Still got service on Verizon and a little on AT&T. Camping is $30 a night though

Really nice place to overnight, right at our maximum daily driving distance which in our case was the Mexican border. Peaceful especially after so cal freeways… almost no one else here.

The county webpage seems to say that reservations are now required, but the signage still allows you to claim an open spot and Ay in the morning. On a Saturday night, arriving at 9 pm, there were still a fair number of open spaces. Just fine for an overnight before an early pickup at LAX in the morning.

Report Check-In

Closed for Covid but the 24 hour fishing dock stays open Car parking lot with not so big cul de sac turn around. We parked our camper with 10’ trailer just inside the booth, out of the way. From 4pm to 7am no one mans the booth so access is in encumbered.

Not an awesome place! Without any notice, verbally or by notice, they raised the cost from $20 to $30/night and now charge additional $7 to use dump station. Was informed not only can people not swim or even dip toes in lake because it's a watershed, but my dog shouldn't even dip his paws or drink from the lake (REALLY??). Manager wouldn't allow me to stay the few more nights as I'd planned at the $20 I had checked in at, despite having already been staying in campground (BULLS@!%#).

As described by others. Sheriff still cruising by a few times.

Bon endroit pour dormir. Silencieux et belle vue sur le lac. Dîner sympathique en compagnie d une mouflette. Douche chaude pour 1 dollar.

Basic sites-for $20 not bad-showers cost $1 for 3 min, but they're nice showers-sherriff drove through a few times on his route, locked the gate at 10pm, felt safe. Access to the beach at the lake, but we didn't make it over there. Nice, cheap way to visit LA,30 mi away.

Awesome place to stay. All as mentioned in other comments (toilet/fire pits/table/shower/dump/potable water). Overnight fee is still $ 20 which allow access to the public beach (with wifi) across, 3 min drive. Swimming is permitted except at public beach. 5 min drive to all fast food chains and I 5. We stayed 3 nights - no reservation necessary, many free sites to choose.
