Description

Route 60 on the map looks like a proper main road. Between Pauna and San Pablo de Borbur there are currently roadworks which means the road is only open for traffic once an hour and you’ll be asked to wait at the barrier until it re-opens. From Otanche to La Esmeralda the road turns into a a single file dirt track with lots of new landslides and as it is rainy season at the moment a lot of river crossings which can be up to half a meter deep. To drive this road at the moment you would need 4x4 and high clearance (only after heavy rain, check with the locals upfront and You should be fine)...

Latest Check-Ins

The road was fine when I passed through, heading west from Bogota towards Medellin. Heading west from where the 60 branches off from the 45A, there's a short climb and then massive descent on patchy pavement with potholes and sections of dirt for a couple dozen KM, and then excellent pavement until Otanche. After Otanche it's all dirt until you descend all the way to the Rio Magdalena valley. The road was generally pretty good, but there are sections where you might have difficulty with a 2WD vehicle. There was pretty heavy rain the night before I rode the dirt section, but I still had no issues with river crossings. The deepest was just a couple CM at most.

General Information about the ruta 60: from chiquinquira to Puerto boyaca it's 186km. the first 105km are almost completly paved and in good condition. then about 60km of rough gravel. the Last 20km it's gravel and pavement with lot of potholes. From Finca San Luis to Puerto Boyaca it will take 6 - 7h with a normal campervan. Other vehicles should be faster.... there is some roadwork and Alejandro from Finca San Lois said, that the local goverment is pushing to create a complete pavement - we think this will take some years....

Did this route from Villa de leyva to la dorada 2 days back - Jan 11, 2022 on motorcycle. The dirt section is doable but not for big trucks. Trail is narrow in places.

There are a few water crossings but the deepest one was about little higher than ankle deep.

Be careful on blind curves. There’s some local traffic - motorcycles and cars.

There was no sign of road work on the dirt section. Just before 15 miles from Highway 45 there’s some road work but they stopped us for only 5-10 mins each time.

Agreed for cars/4x4s it would be a bumpy day, but such a fantastic interesting road, and Sunday no roadworks! We rode it two up with full kit on our motorbike and had a great time.

completed route 60 today. from finca san Luis to puerto boyaca was a 8 hour slog! do your spine a favor and have a good stretch before and make sure you have no hot cups of coffee open because she's a bumpy one!

Very nice, scenic off road drive, bumpy & small road in places. Only a handfull of other cars. At the moment no deep creek crossings (15 cm max) and no road closure. I don't think high clearance is absolutely necessary, convenient yes. 4x4 not needed (at the moment), some locals are driving normal cars. I wouldn't recomment driving this road with a big, normal camper. Some parts are rocky and a bit steep up and down. Coming from west, 13 km before Otanche it's asphalted again. You can app Alejandro from Finca San Luis for update info about this road.
