Parking at the end of a gravel road with some holes.
Access with a ClasseC 35 ft/12'9"" no obstacles to get to the spot (width/height), there is a spot just the size of our truck at the bottom of the parking lot next to the barbecue site and the shelter.
We didn't dare to stay a second night because of the storm warning, we were afraid we wouldn't be able to go back the way we came.
There is another spot on the access road where we could also have stayed.

I would say ok for a night. I was really tired after driving 8 hours and just didn’t have it in me to find another spot. The area is sadly pretty trashed. The toilet is gone, and after seeing all the trash I see why. Such a shame. I checked out the road to the right before the trail head, a couple spots I saw but were pretty exposed and windy. The road was in bad shape so I didn’t continue down. I tucked away in the corner of the trailhead parking lot. 2 to 3 bars with Verizon. I wouldn’t stay here more then one night. But it’s fine for a quick overnighter and to hike around in the lava.

Nice & level gravel lot, didn’t see anyone else here! Hiking trail does not seem heavily trafficked at all. Lots of birds & bunnies, very peaceful spot

stayed at the trail head gravel parking lot. there's a dirt road deeper in and some pull outs. good spot for a night and a nice stroll on the lava rocks. one other van there and people coming and going. one person was shooting nearby which felt dangerous.

Hell’s Half Acre northern loop trail and wilderness study area. BLM land, legal to park overnight.

2 options for boondocking. The sizable gravel parking lot is suitable for all vehicles except large Class As pulling trailers or the largest fifth wheels due to turning radius. Gravel road for about 1/3 mile off the highway, it can puddle when wet but it’s gravel underneath. Very pretty setting in the old plain surrounded 300 degrees by the 25’ high lava flows. A bomb could go off on the highway and you’d never hear it here. Portapotty, picnic table under a covered pavilion, fire ring, and a trashcan are here. The area does get some use, there were about 7 vehicles that came and went during the day in a summer mid-week. One other boondocker. No bugs.

Option 2: To the right just before the parking lot, an unimproved dirt track follows the edge of the lava flows for a few miles. Numerous dispersed spots along that road. OK for high clearance 2WD vehicles when dry (stay to the right track, the left track is muddy). Most Class B and C can get to the first couple of sites OK, but take it slow as it’s a bit bumpy. Somebody’s lowrider lost a bumper here; we hauled it away. (We’re in a Sprinter 3500 24’ Class C and did fine, longer class C’s will also be OK. We camped next to a Sprinter Class B here. I wouldn’t bring a Class A down the dirt road.). We didn’t get highway noise here.

Option 2 had swarms of gnats (not biting ones) and a few mosquitoes. The parking lot option 300 feet away had none. We did a night in each.

great spot off the highway, with some grass to put a tent. Also a few other sites along the road just past the trailhead. Very little highway noise

Public land so it’s legal to stay there. Nice place! It’s worth doing the little loop too for the lava rocks. You can also bike around the lava rocks on the dirtroads.
Grass area for tents
