Two beautiful hiking trails.

Latest Check-Ins

I was at this place and everything is the same.

Report Check-In

This campground is great. Beautiful grounds with large pond of salmon trout and running river. Plenty of space for tent camping and rigs. They have little huts to put tents under (protected from the elements) or to just hang out. Each hut has a small barbecue too, and power.

Some nice trails around the area where you can see waterfalls and plenty of birds. Lots of outdoor spaces to hang out.

The owner will give you fishing gear to fish for the salmon and the restaurant will cook it up for you (or you can just buy it). This was delicious, and well worth the experience. Restaurant is only opened weekends 10:00-3:00pm though, so plan accordingly.

Report Check-In

Nice and clean place. Great fresh salmon trouts and enough space for any type of vehicle. Weekends are a bit crowded, but after 6pm you are practically alone. After the extreme heat at the beaches you get chilled down at 2500m altitude.

Report Check-In

A beautiful place, with small lakes for fishing and a river. Its owner is very friendly and can prepare your catch for you to eat here.

Great camping spot down by the river. Power, Wi-Fi. This was one of our favorite spots in all of Costa Rica. YouTube Chris and Tovah's Amazing Adventures https://youtube.com/@ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures?si=RPavzqZsW6dYRFiP

Report Check-In

Lovely place! The owner is super friendly, the big shelter with tables and chairs is luxury, the toilet and the shower are good and there actually is warm water in the shower. We did the shorter hike in the forest. It was very nice. The cool weather felt really nice.

Report Check-In

We loved this campground when we stayed last year, so decided to return again this year. Lots of flat areas for overlanders in the parking lot. You will likely have the place to yourself after the day time tourists leave. Very tranquil and you can hear the small river trickling nearby. Some beautiful trails in the area. We spotted a quetzal. We went fishing too. Pretty much guaranteed catch so be prepared for cooking up some trout for dinner! Also make sure you bring some warm clothes, as it gets quite cold here.

Report Check-In

We stayed with our 4x4 and roof top tents 3 nights at this lovely camping. The owner is very welcoming and kind and he checked after a strong rain if everything was fine with us.

The price is 5000C pP/pN. The electric installations, wifi and bathrooms were the best so far in CR.
We could park our 4x4 next to the river and next to a little ranchito (hut), where we could cook and eat and be safe from the rain.
With a bigger vehicule you would probably park in the parking lot next to the fish pond.

The temperature was during the day 15-18 degrees Celsius (in the shade) and at night around 10 C.

There are two hiking trails, there is even a detailed map of them:
1) Path of the oaks (robles): 1h including spending time by the giant old oaks, magical.
2) Hike to two waterfalls: 1h45 with not many stops. Adventurous and magical as well.

Fishing the trout (actually salmon trout) is fun and easy also for beginners. It tastes delicious!
This is only possible Sat/Sun, when also others guests (from the city) arrive for just the fishing.

Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

We stayed for three nights.

Friendly owner and dogs. The cool weather up here is so good after being at the coast.

Fast wifi everywhere, lots of covered places to sit (and work). Shower was clean, toilets are shared with people come and go to buy fish. Wasn‘t to bad, but we cleaned it several times for us.

You can camp easy in the big gravel parking lot or (more private) next to the river - but be careful there, we had problems getting out with our 2WD Campervan after rain.

Report Check-In

Awesome place to camp. They have shelter for rain, and the short cloud forest hike is better than Monteverde. Fast WiFi.

Report Check-In

This is a beautiful spot. Approach is easy for any rig and less than 2 km off highway. So friendly, everything you need, fresh trout and trails. Potable water. Great time!

Report Check-In

Excellent location to camp. Big parking, clean toilet and good warm shower. Very nice trails to hike. 5000 CpP.

Report Check-In

We wanted to stay here. Area looks very nice but there was no one there so we moved on. The major part of the road is renewed with asphalt so even though it is very hilly and steep, it was okay to drive!

Report Check-In

Very funny and friendly place.

We have been here on an Sunday and during rainy season at around 1pm. It was crowded with people although it was poring down.
The area is big enough and very beautiful.

You can catch your own fish and let it cook in the nearby restaurant. You also can buy it at the market booth right at the car park.
The restaurant ist closing at 3pm.

You also can hike.

It eas 11°C during the day and 5°C during the night. So be prepared.

We recommend the place.

Report Check-In

We forgot to mention the price. Still 5000 colones- but because we stayed 5 nights, he gave us one night free!

Report Check-In

We spent 5 nights here. We were here over the Mother’s Day weekend and it was busy! But rightly so, because this place is a slice of paradise and so much fun. They supply you with string and bait for the trout fishing- great for beginners and kids. The huts are kitted out with electricity, and there are two fun walking trails. It was very peaceful in the week and we‘d definitely return. Tip for the shower- turn it on just a fraction and you’ll get that right temperature.

Report Check-In

Super place to stay. We arrived in the rain and we’re greeted by such a warm welcome! Campsite area is great; electricity, hot shower, toilets, lots of space to cook and eat. Road is steep but tarmac makes it easy. We walked the trail and saw hummingbirds and lovely forest. Highly recommend!

Beautiful place
I can spend my whole life here

Report Check-In

Really nice place if you are looking for a cold night to recover from hot beach nights ;-) the owner is incredibly friendly. The road to get there and return is challenging with 3 tons and 2WD. But we could do it. We also went fishing in the morning. Delicious trout.

Bathrooms were clean and wifi reliable. 5000 per person.

Report Check-In

This place is awesome!

The trout farm owner, Jose Maria, might just be the nicest Costa Rican in the whole country. I think he really loves campers. We stayed 3 nights here and had fish all three nights (sashimi & fried trout). We paid 5000 per kg of trout and 5000 per person per night.

The lake area is really nice and there are some wonderful trails starting from the farm.

Bathrooms are clean and the shower is either cold or burning hot.

The main parking lot isn’t very level and can get busy if you’re coming in the weekend. We parked 30m down the hill where it was flatter and more private.

We super recommend coming here. Road is quite steep going in and coming out, but doable with our 2WD. Friendly dogs on-site. It gets really cold here at night…you’ve been warned.

Report Check-In

Quiet, calm, friendly owner, hiking trails through the cloud forest. Saw Quetzals here during our stay on the trees at the Camping area. They recently installed a shower. Still 5.000 CRC per person.

Report Check-In

Great place to stay a few days and relax! still 5.000 C. p. p. we are on bicycles and tent camped here. the way to here is steep on some parts, but it’s worth it! on the place you can choose where you want to put the tent. you have a little wooden hut with table, chairs and grill for your own. so if it’s rainy, you can stay dry! there are bathrooms and we were allowed to use the hot shower inside the cabaña (because they had no other guests at this time). The owners are super nice!

This place is in wrong location - it is located at 9.67881, -83.87887

Report Check-In

Nice hiking trails on the property with a few water falls. Trout fishing if you want as well as areas to cook it on bbq. 8000 per kilo of fish. Camping was 5000$ pppn. Can fill up on water. Wifi worked for us. Road is steep but we made it really easily with our 7m ford transit even during rain. Steep parts are roughly paved so I wouldn’t imagine ever needing 4x4.

Report Check-In

Just Great, big Rig - all easy... the owners are lovely and no one here, spended 3 days here. Was 5.000 Col. For 2 and truck

Report Check-In

The hike to the waterfall is moderately strenuous. Watch your footing, hiking poles recommended. Wifi is hit or miss, slow and really only usable in the restaurant. The are 2 electrical outlets at the entrance to the building that houses the bathrooms.

Report Check-In

Truchas Selva Madre is actually 2 km off Hwy 2.
But saw the signs and headed east. Road is gravel and steep in places so in dry season ok. If in rainy season, we would probably not be able to get in with truck camper since not 4x4.
Once at faculty, owners and staff were friendly and helpful.
We took the trail to Cascada #1 and it took about one hour.
Needed the hiking poles as wet and slippery in places.
Charged 5500c per person per night but does include electrical hookup and wifi access.
Restaurant is good with only trout on menu.

Update:
(Facility-not faculty. Power went out with storm so no electricity or wifi last two days.)

Endroit très bien. Un peu froid car en altitude. Avons été reçu avec beaucoup d'intérêt par un des propriétaires, José Maria. 10 000 colónes par nuit pour 2 avec véhicule . Toilettes propres mais pas de douche. Wifi. Very Nice place and very Nices persons too.

Report Check-In

Very nice place to camp, not free, $10 per person/night but it offers a very nice place to stay, bathrooms and trout lake, restaurant and security. It is good for rv, maybe not a 40ft one but I have a 24ft and had no issues.

Report Check-In

Incredible place in the Cerro Muerte mountains. Stocked trout pond, restaurant, camping areas, hiking trails. Clean bathrooms, no showers, no wifi.

Price: $10/person/night

Report Check-In

High in the mountains, relatively cold weather. Crowded with locals on the weekend, especially Sunday, but very few overnighters. Covered areas for cooking. Trout pond for fishing, gear provided. $9 per kilo, no catch and release, expensive but delicious. Beautiful 1.5 mile hiking trail into the cloud forest behind the restaurant.
