We slept here by the entrance sign of the park. The road here took about an hour and was relatively easy for our 100 series LC. The small road from 3N is called Macascha and if you zoom in on google maps you can see it go all the way here. Not suitable for big rigs because the road is narrow in a few spots, but any truck should be able to make it.
There are many places along the way suitable to camp or park on the level. In the morning we hiked to the Laguna, about 2 easy hours each way. AMAZING!!! It’s right at the base of the glacier (another hour hike we didn’t do).
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nice Laguna, amazing glacier covered mountain. Parking is ok, the guy from the house asked directly for a “propina”...
The road is at two points in a very bad condition (steep, bumpy and loose stones) and we nearly did it with a 2WD camper van.
Report Check-InRainy season strikes again! The road is completely washed out about 6-7 km prior to the tagged location. We have a pretty capable vehicle (Ford F250) and didn’t want to risk it.
Report Check-Ingreat and easy hike, dont miss it, especially if you need something to acclimate.
about 2.8km before this point (just before the wooden gate) was a bit a stream/landslide, could be tricky with high, top heavy vehicles. if you dont make it, you can park there as well.
Ok spot to camp. You can't drive farther because of a gate. There is a family living at a small farm house at this point in the road. They seem very nice.
The trail to a glacier lake begins here, it is 6km each way (12km total).
