Description

correct location

Fantastic camping area on public land, not far from I40 with access via a gravel road, but it is in good condition. There is a blue gate at the entrance, just make sure to close it again, after the gate there is a sign for the designated camping area, keep driving along the fence until there is an opening on the left. There is a lot of space and it is level, can suit big rigs and tents. LTE coverage with AT&T/Verizon.
No toilets, no water, no electricity

Latest Check-Ins

washboard rd. spot is gated. cannot enter

Report Check-In

it's kind of a high knob so expect it to be windy. avoid the area if it's been wet or expect rain. coordinates brought me right here. I sprained my wrist before coming here and the latch on the blue gate was a bit challenging. you have to lift the gate while pulling the latch. pushing the latch closed seemed more difficult than opening it. expect cow poop. full LTE att.

Report Check-In

GPS coordinates brought us to the place exactly. This was a really great site not too far off of 40.

Report Check-In

Just as described :) take exit 208 off i-40. pavement turns to dirt eventually, road is a little washboardy but not really a problem. when you come to the blue gate, it is kind of hard to open. push up on it while you pull the bar. I'm a very small person and it took me a couple tries, but I got it. nothing really out here except a couple fire rings and places to park, but that's exactly what we needed. beautiful when the sun rises.

Report Check-In

GPS coordinates did not lead us to this place. Would be helpful if someone could post exit number and provide more details. Ended up at Sierra Blanca Brewery instead.

Report Check-In

A fenced in designated camping area. A quiet desert camping area. No amenities.

Report Check-In

Like others have said. Decent place to sleep. Pretty quiet and almost no traffic. Some light from the highway but not enough to be disturbing. Road was dry and easily navigated, even for my 2wd van. It was dark, quiet, and only about 65 degrees F in July overnight.

Report Check-In

get off the highway and turn into the gravel road. you'll see a closed blue gate. it is unlocked but hard to open, I found pushing up on it helped. please close it behind you as the sign says. easy short drive to the spot from the gate, some deep mud in the main path so take the spur off to the right and watch out for deep ruts but it's not hard to navigate. peaceful spot, little trash, some highway noise but not too bad. beautiful thunderstorm in the distance and white flowers blooming!

Report Check-In

Terrific flat overnight stop off the highway. Plenty of space even with 3 other parties that showed up later in evening. Respect the land. Pay it forward by packing out more than you pack in!

Report Check-In

large open spot. nothing to break the wind. quiet. couple fire rings. same as before about gate. not to difficult, open pull thru close. nice place

Report Check-In

Follow the previous directions, exactly how to get there! the blue gate was a bit heavy. pulled up and one other camper there. nice designated area.

Report Check-In

exactly as described. Once you meet the blue gate, open and close behind you. It’s a big heavy, I struggled to open and close it.

Peaceful space - only one other camper within eye sight. You can hear the highway from a distance but not bothersome at all.

I just arrived- will stay the night and carry on. It’s super windy today!

I wouldn’t recommend coming if it has or will be raining for it’s a two mile mud road that leads you here.

Please don’t leave any trace behind! This is a great spot, let’s leave it that way!

Report Check-In

Great spot that is pretty secluded! Both nights we had other campers nearby but there is plenty of room to spread out! Great Verizon reception.

Report Check-In

Just as described in previous entry. We are here all alone in some crazy weather. Rain dumping all around us and sunshine is pouring over our motorhome in the plains.

Report Check-In

Great spot. Directions are easy, plenty of room, only one car here when I arrived late. Little windy so more of a park and sleep situation.

Report Check-In

Little windy, somewhat level red sand. Good stay and rest for one night, saw minivans, Sprinters, suvs, and a trailer house (22ft).

Easy to access of Interstate road condition is good, some washboards and cows.

Report Check-In

just as described, great free place for the night

Report Check-In

Easy 2.5 miles off pavement. Great views all around and noise from the interstate is very minimal.

Report Check-In

exaclty as described, remeber to go past the gate.

Report Check-In

Spent one night in Rv while passing through. It's about 2.5 miles of gravel, but the road is fine, little washboard in places. Nobody around. You do have to pass through a blue gate right before you arrive so don't let that confuse you. Good phone service on ATT. Interstate off in the distance, but it's much better than a truckstop or interstate exit area.

Report Check-In

Great spot to stop along I-40. Far enough from the highway that noise is muted. Easy road in.

Report Check-In

As described. Just confirming it’s still available. Great stop.

Report Check-In

Awesome spot! Both Apple and Google maps were being wonky about directing us, but take exit 208 and you’ll be fine. Great service with Verizon and very quiet!

Report Check-In

a little farther from the exit than I thought, but just a couple miles. one of the cow grates on the road up is getting washed out on one side, has a good drop there but passable. gps takes you to the gate. the gate sags a little after to unlatch it, the lifting comes in when latching it again. opening in the wire fence is easy to find. one fire pit. pretty good size area enclosed by fence. good Verizon signal. you can definitely here the i40 traffic but it is pretty muted. had the place to myself last night.

Report Check-In

As described and very level. Easy to find.

Report Check-In

Nice, very easy to get to, take it slow… blue gate, turn left at the brake in the wire fence…

Report Check-In

Great spot, highly recommend!

Easy to find, private, highway noise is minimal. Plenty of space to spread out!

Report Check-In

Awesome camp spot! Can get to it with smaller cars just take it slow. Few other people when I was there but very quiet.

Report Check-In

Awesome! As described by previous peeps! Just have to “lift” the blue gate with one hand and “pull” the latch back to open with the other. Was difficult for the Mrs. Thanks to whoever owns this land👍

Report Check-In

Just as described. Came here back in 2020 and now again in 2022. Breezy, bring firewood burn ring on site.

Report Check-In

Just as promised. It’s perfect . There’s even a fire pit with wood

Report Check-In

Agreed super nice spot enough for about 5 or 6 rigs. Area totally fenced-in. Windy as most of New Mexico. One small campsite down the road about 0.2 miles however not recommended because it's not in the designated camp area

Report Check-In

super nice spot. very easy to get to like told in the description it is literally five minutes away from the interstate. i dont hear no noise from the cars at all. it is nice and quiet!

Report Check-In

This place is great! And I have cel service
(T-Mobile). On top of a hill in a cow field.

Report Check-In

Quiet open area. Arrived late at night without issue EXCEPT the gate was too heavy for me to close as it has to be lifted a bit. Opens no problem if you give it a strong push to the left. Was glad I wasn’t alone as my husband could close it no problem. Dirt road after the gate was a little muddy and rutted but our night was perfect for sleeping and getting right back on highway.

Report Check-In

Easy 2 mile dirt road in. Room for two maybe three RVs. Ours...32 foot class A with toad. room to circle out without disconnecting.

Report Check-In

Great place with nice view. Exactly the kind of spot we needed for an overnight stay en route to the Grand Canyon.

There’s a little road noise from the highway, but it’s not bad… more like a minor inconvenience.

One comment mentioned the wind… there was no wind while we were there.

Report Check-In

Fairly good gravel road in, may be a little muddy after a rain. Nice large flat space. We were the first to pull in, later a small SUV came and 2 vans that parked up on the hill. Very good place to be.

Report Check-In

Follow directions of original poster and you will get there seamlessly, even in the dark like we did! Highway sound was very minimal in our van.

Perfect and tucked away, we had it all to ourselves. Thank you to the owner for allowing this space for a passing traveler!

Report Check-In

cold and windy like heavy gusts of wind. it's pretty yeah but windy not even worth setting up my rtt. definitely. if you wanna be rocked to sleep sure

Report Check-In

Just as described by other visitors. Perfect alternative to a rest area. I was goi g to keep driving g, but it sounded too perfect, and it is.

Report Check-In

Fantastic spot! When the skies cleared in the morning I was able to see snow covered peaks in the distance! Watch the weather before coming in because it can get pretty nasty here. After arriving I saw it was white out conditions 2 days before. Noise from 40 is hardly noticeable. It just sounds like a high flying plane. The only people I saw were energy people working further down the road. I arrived at 4 and they all convoyed out at 5. If you’re gate dumb like me, you have to pull the upright silver/blackish bar to left to free the pins. If it’s windy maybe put a lawn chair or something in front of it if you’re alone because it will definitely come back and smack your vehicle. 5 star spot!!

Report Check-In

Gate was unlocked (took me a minute to get it). The stars are beautiful from here. No other campers. Road wasn’t bad. The only downside of this place is the light traffic noise, but heck if you’re as tired as me, that shouldn’t be a problem!

Report Check-In

Very nice and secluded spot not too far from the highway. Can hardly hear the highway noise. Beautiful sunrise, sunset and night sky. Good cell reception. Can get pretty windy!

Report Check-In

I had difficulty trying to open the blue gate, but a very nice and strong Native American man appeared behind me and helped me open the gate. :-)
The gravel road in is good, but washboard. There were two fifth wheels camping together that took over the entire right side of the lot and had all their toys spread out, trucks, 4 wheelers, grills, etc. So I drove to the very left side. Gorgeous sunset! The two cars that came in after me went straight (past the left side opening of the lot), but 5 minutes later, I saw them coming back down the road and they came and parked next to me. On the map, it looks like the road goes all the way down, but I guess they had issues and turned around.

Report Check-In

Designated dispersed camp area. Blue gate is at a turn so you head straight for it and can’t miss it even at night.

Report Check-In

Love this place! So easy to find. Road was in good condition. We were the only ones there. Did not want to leave.

Report Check-In

easy to find thanks to good directions. flat, open, perfect for a van. there was only one other van here, and then we have the whole place to ourselves for the morning. beautiful. perfect camping spot.

Report Check-In

Just as had been previously described in the other comments. Was easy to get to even after dark. Will definitely stop here again if in the area to camp. Try to get here before dark for easy set up.

Report Check-In

Far enough from highway for a quiet night.

Report Check-In

Perfect, and still open during this COVID disaster. We had a quiet night with a beautiful sunset over the mountains in the distance. Many thanks to the original poster for the great directions and description. Far too many overlanders just write "nice spot".

@lifeat90kph

Report Check-In

Amazing place and prior info and directions were just right!! Perfect spot to camp in our VW bus.

Report Check-In

As described. Secluded but not hard to find.

Report Check-In

This place is a dream. The stars at night are beautiful and it’s quite as can be.
Directions listed before me were perfect.
Take the dirt road to the blue gate.
Gate will be closed, remember to close the gate behind you.
The area is located in the first opening on the left.
One thing to note is there are some really small cactus on the ground here and there so be careful with your furry friends.

Report Check-In

beautiful, quiet (despite noise from nearby hwy 40), easy access for any vehicle -- definitely windy and primitive, but what a blessing to stay here on a long drive while moving across the country during the covid pandemic

Report Check-In

All of the information posted by others is accurate. Go through the blue gate and you’ll run into the orange camping sign. Turn left in the break in the fence. Great place to rest for the night. Gravel road is in good condition.

Report Check-In

Gate was unlocked and high clearance is definitely not required. Nice flat area with a fire ring on the left shortly after the gate.

Report Check-In

3 miles off paved road. Road is packed dirt/gravel (very bumpy and has a couple of inclines). Blue gate closed (seemingly to keep cattle in). Path past blue gate seemed to be soft and sandy. When we arrived there were about 4 rigs on about an acre area. Not sure if there other dispersed area, we did not stay.

Report Check-In

we got to the blue gate and it was all flooded beyond it and the gate was locked. even if you could get the gate open, it would have been impassable for most vehicles. not sure why it was so bad as there hasn't been any rain recently. would have been beautiful otherwise.

Report Check-In

Tent camped one night. Beautiful clean and open land we had all to ourselves. Pretty accessible from the highway. A little truck noise but nothing unbearable by any means.

Report Check-In

Quiet little place, you have to go down a dirt road and then you come to a fork in the road. stay to the left and go through the blue gate. Make sure you close it afterwards. Drive a bit and then there is an opening in the fence on the left. Go there, it’s a nice clearing for camping. Some noise from the highway but not obnoxious. Beautiful in the morning. We were the only ones there.

Also, we are driving a Prius, so almost any car would be just fine here.

Report Check-In

Great place to stay overnight. Super easy to access. Plenty of space even for bigger rigs. Only one other person here when I stayed and they were on the opposite side of the area. Great LTE service for AT&T not sure about Verizon.

Report Check-In

Nice spot to stop off at. Be careful if it's raining since the road past the gate looks like it could be deep mud based on the ruts.

Report Check-In

Fenced in area, maybe a couple acres at best. Can see for miles in all directions.

Report Check-In

I sure love BLM! Tons of space, nice spot to stop on the way up to Santa Fe.

Report Check-In

You can hear cars on I-40 but they're not too loud.

Report Check-In

the road before Martinez road is suitable but not for all rv ! we can't go at the end of it with our camper, too bad for it.

Report Check-In

Stopped here for one night. The road in was good considering there was snow recently. There is a small amount of road noise but overall quite good!

Report Check-In

Wild place but great for one night. Very quiet.

Report Check-In

Extremely windy but free! rough road after the blue gate, all in all a great spot.
