Description

Dirt road, high clearance needed, several spots fairly spread out around an open field. Sites are quite private off the field with one on its edge.

Nice views of night skies and the surrounding mountains, if you're a late riser sort, then you'll enjoy that the sun doesn't crest the mountain tops till about 9 am. Water is available down the hill in the amphitheater campground as are toilets. I used ATT for my cell and it works decently during the overnight hours from about 10-11pm till about 9-10am and then goes off network.

Latest Check-Ins

One big site at field, but lots of other sites along the road before and after the field and along other roads branching from the main road. More sites beyond small River crossing. 4x4 high clearance needed to get up this road. Such a beautiful area to camp. Trails and river near by. Hiking distance to town. Decent cell service. Signs at road entrance say no camping 1st 3rd of road, but lots of sites available beyond that. Beware bears are in the area and spotted near camp and got into a near-by camper’s stuff.

beautiful spot! big flat field area. lots of deer and some moose!. 4x4 is definitely best.

Had to put the Troopy in 4WD low. Otherwise an easy, but bumpy climb in the land cruiser. A little steep, clearance on 33s was not an issue, though loss of traction due to insufficient suspension travel may be problematic depending on line choice and vehicle. 3 bars of service with Google Fi. Seriously amazing views just 20 minutes from pavement. IG: @gdayjambo

Report Check-In

Tree has been removed and access is cleared. The area was busy so I continued the track a bit further up

Report Check-In

Field access is currently blocked off by a large tree across the road that fell this winter. I didn't have a chainsaw and had to turn back.

Deer everywhere, Nice quiet spot during the week, only a few campers around. Just like previous descriptions mentioned high clearance 4x4 is a must.

Amazing location. 4wd is needed. Lockers probably needed if it’s ever wet.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot. Full of deer and can’t beat the view. Little bit of a 4x4 trail getting up, if you’re coming from Ouray. But we loved it!

Great site with alpine Meadow with several dispersed sites around the perimeter. A herd of deer grazing came within 10 feet of me. Amazing 360 degree Mountain View’s. Go way up past the day use areas and away from the private land. Road was pretty rough, 4WD only

Report Check-In

Amazing view. Several good spots for single rig with RTT or small tent. The road up is a bit rough but doable with 4WD in high range. The view is the stuff of dreams. I’ll definitely be back.

Report Check-In

We camped just below the abandoned “under-construction” home across from the day-use-only area. Gorgeous views, saw deer & foxes several times. 4x4 necessary to access.
