amazing space, beautiful views, not very busy. only a couple other campers the 2 nights we were here. great weather for how early in the season it was. as long as it's dry the roads were fine. would come back.

Report Check-In

Spent quiet night by the river. No other campers. Gorgeous sunset. A shallow draft boat with lots of lights came by twice, appeared to be inspecting the shore well after dark but didn’t bother us.

Report Check-In

great spot by the river, some faint highway noise from I90. stayed in a truck camper, so reported flies weren't a major problem. it was a bit rutted and semi soft, but no issues for me and several others. though looks like it could get dicey in the rainy season. pit toilet in the nearby park.

Report Check-In

this is one of my favorite places I've dry camped so far. stayed on a Tuesday. there were only a couple other vehicles. we were all spaced out to where we all had our own separated areas to enjoy and even comfortably let my dogs roam off leash. My only discrepancy were the spiked plants that get tangled up in their hair n hurt when you try to pull them out, so be careful. no amenities but a beautiful view and great cell service. plenty of gas stations nearby though.

Report Check-In

As described, free camping and is first come, first serve. Try to get there earlier if possible to grab a spot right on the river. I was there during dry weather, but noticed other reviews mentioning problems in the rain.

Report Check-In

Nice place with views of the river, fairly flat spots and about 3 bars Verizon. I have 2wd and wouldn't attempt this in the rain obvious deep mud tracks throughout. But in dry weather like now, no problem. Didn't see previous posts about this but the flies there were relentless! Ended up leaving right when I woke up to get away from the swarm of flies by the river.

Report Check-In

It was a little confusing coming in when it was pitch dark but we were able to follow another van that I was driving around confused. be careful not to fall into the river. lovely little spot for the night. very quiet and once the sun is up just a pretty little place.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

site as described. no problem reaching it when dry in my 2wd civic

also there are bathrooms at the park down the road if needed

Report Check-In

Nice place and quiet but we were advised to watch for Rattle Snake!

Report Check-In

Great spot. Lots of room. Might be tricky for big rigs. Great view just feet from the Missouri River.

Report Check-In

We arrived before a thunderstorm with an unexpected large amount if rain. We got stuck in the grass near the water (with our AWD). We were lucky to have locals help us out. They told us that tow trucks charge up to $500. Stay on or near crushed stone to be safe during rain.

Report Check-In

very peaceful place to stay. had no problems at all. super quiet and a beautiful place to wake up to. will come back and would recommend.

Report Check-In

As described. Found out from a local the area used to be the dump, so watch out for random glass coming up from the ground. Other than that, awesome. Good weather and nice breeze coming off the river.

Report Check-In

Leave open area. Peaceful. CAUTION: Not navigable if wet/in the rain without 4wd. Sandy soil turns quicksand- like. We got stuck.

Report Check-In

This place was magical, plenty of spots to camp. I pulled up the Google satellite map to see all the roads you can access and found a nice spot with a little water access point. There were a couple campers and another camper van set up but we all had a couple miles apart from each other.

Report Check-In

Great spot by the river. we pulled in around 10 pm and had no problem finding a spot. There were two other campers near us, and a group of 10 or so on the other end. We never did see any signs about camping or overnight parking. It's by the river, so be prepared for mosquitoes. Great spot for a night!

Report Check-In

Shangri-La by the Missouri river!
The reviews are right, this place is very nice. We found a nice spot by the river and set up shop. The surrounding towns Oacoma and Chamberlain had everything we need. Including very nice people.
Stayed all seven days And met some nice folks that were camping here too.

Report Check-In

10 day free camping along the Missouri River. Super quite!
5g UC T-Mobile

Report Check-In

posted 10 day free camping area.awesome spot along the Missouri river. Lost of bugs, it quite otherwise. Lots of room for boondockers.

Report Check-In

Nice and quiet, all kinds of space. Only 3 RVs here.

Report Check-In

Wonderful spot! Signs all over saying you can stay for 7 consecutive nights! We stayed three nights with no issues. Highly recommend driving around the whole area to find a secluded spot! Great Verizon reception too! And the park nearby has a pit toilet.

Report Check-In

Lovely that this place exists. Fairly popular on a Monday. Things to note: vault toilet at nearby park was locked with a wire and a pole, and turning on my headlamp after dark won me a face full of mayflies 😆.

Report Check-In

Nice spot! Very calm and peaceful weather tonight. Found a spot at the end of a loop right on the water. Two bars of Verizon LTE which works well. Not many mosquitoes but a lot of midges swarming around my van at dusk. There are maybe 4 or 5 other campers well spread apart. Loud traffic noise crossing the bridge but not annoying at all. Took my dog for a run on my electric bike and two dogs came out from a nearby residence with tails wagging and said hello. They followed us for a bit but we’re nice and didn’t harm either of us.

Report Check-In

A great spot, minutes off I-90, right along the Missouri River with views of the water. Safe, quiet, convenient. It’s a sort of coastal park between residences and the river, so also nice for a leg stretch in the morning. Flat and with excellent TMobile coverage.

Report Check-In

Beautiful views. Very private and quiet. Not sure what more you could ask for.

Report Check-In

great free spot, just as others have described. Beautiful views right along the river - you just follow any of the dirt roads and pull off where you want. pretty flat roads no probably without 4x4. A few locals riding dirt bikes around in the evening but other than that very quiet & peaceful. I did find one tick on my rug in the morning so be aware!

Report Check-In

Fantastic spot, killer view, a little bit of hwy noise, lots of room to spread out. Awesome

Report Check-In

Delightful spot to camp. oacoma flats is what iOverlander is all about!

Report Check-In

very big spot in the dry season as it is now. comfortable and very nice. at the right side there were another 3 vans.
defenitly a real i overland spot.

Report Check-In

This is a beautiful spot to camp. We spent the day here and would have stayed all night but had to head out. Would definitely stay if coming back through.

Report Check-In

Lots of space and beautiful views of Missouri. Not crowded. 4 bars T-Mobile 5G. Great spot.

Report Check-In

It’s as fantastic as everyone says. But if you’re car camping, it doesn’t mean it’s cool to roll up at 11 pm and blare your headlights into a camper trying to figure out where to go, and then settling on parking right next to them. There was plenty of open space, I listen to too many murder podcasts to be ok with that. Respect peoples space mmmkkk? (and by space I mean in a giant area maybe move 100’ away? Too much?)

Report Check-In

Great spot, lots of space to park for the night. Right beside the Missouri River. Dirt road but flat and no problem for our mini van. McDonalds within 10 minute drive if needed.

Report Check-In

Bivouac with an extraordinary view than the Missouri but near the highway. Too much noise. Earplugs are required. We can't stay outside either because of the biting flies.

Report Check-In

Great place right off the Hwy. plenty of room and a wonderful view to wake up with. Highly recommend.

Report Check-In

Great spot, plenty of space around - will definitely be back!

Report Check-In

such a beautiful spot right on the water. I arrived at 8:30pm and there were a couple cars and campers. dirt road, no 4x4 needed. good verizon service. police cruiser drove by at 9:30pm, they waved and kept driving

Report Check-In

Checking in to save for later. Will update after we stay.

Report Check-In

We stayed here last night - came off I 90 - it was a breezy perfect night.
Couple other people here see photos.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot right by the river, near the city park, and with huge grassy fields that our dog loved.

The vault toilets in the city park are pretty gross, would not recommend.

Evening is awesome with a great breeze, but morning without the breeze means all the bugs come out.

Cell service was amazing here! 4 bars vz

Report Check-In

Awesome area! So many spots along the river, very peaceful and serene.

Report Check-In

Just as described. quiet, very accessible, right next to river, very little shade, easy in and out with a Promaster on dry ground, probably buggy in bug friendly conditions. Was a great quick overnight stop on our way out to Spearfish Canyon. Only two others camped in the area. Tons of room. Would definitely post up here again.

Report Check-In

Get off I90 and turn toward the river. Could be challenging if rainy but it was dry during our stay. Very beautiful along the river.

Report Check-In

Really nice river parking , big rig friendly, full service . Ig @kawi_queen_

Report Check-In

Great spot, right on water and great cell coverage. very quiet and peaceful, just sound of peepers and water. Looks like it was muddy here recently but has since dried. Also, no bugs?? I'm shocked because it doesn't seem cool enough out to scare them away and it's not windy. Watching moon rise over water. Dirt road in, park on dirt or grass. Feels safe, two other campers here but decent distance between us.

Report Check-In

As stated beautiful spot, dirt roads that yes, can be muddy and difficult in the rain so even watch the grass it could be tough to park on but four bars of LTE service and lots of grass areas for tents; not so many pull-outs for RVs but if the ground is hard it'd be good. The end of the road is the best but only one or two rigs are going to fit in there and hard to get around them especially if there's two in there. Very dark at night.

Report Check-In

Went to see where this was located before settling in at the Dude Ranch. it was lovely again right on the Missouri River but decide to stay in a more secluded area.

Report Check-In

We pitched a tent right next to the river. Awesome spot right next to I-90

Report Check-In

2-4 LTE T-Mobile bars, was able to work. Really pretty view over the water. Ground was a bit soft but didn’t get stuck. Was not bothered, nice place to stay. 7 day limit.

Report Check-In

Emerged off of Dougan Rd. Easy to find and perfect for our needs. Stayed one night. Nice and simple area to set up Gazelle tent and overland vehicle. We can hear the interstate traffic but for the most part it was like white noise in the background.

Report Check-In

A Very peaceful, quiet site along the Missouri River. It was windy the night we were there, so no bugs. Only 2 other campers, spaced far away.

Report Check-In

Loved this spot! So much space and we had the entire place to ourselves right on the water. There was a breeze and we even got to do a little foiling in the river. If ever back through we will definitely stop again.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for one night and it was awesome! Beautiful, peaceful and quiet, and the temperature felt great. There was a nice breeze. We only saw one other car, and there’s plenty of space to park far apart if you want more privacy.
The may flies are out right now and got all over parts of our truck to stay out of the wind I guess, but they didn’t really bother us. Just shoo them away and they’ll leave.
You are close to a small town tooso there isn’t total darkness, but you’re far enough away to feel pretty secluded. Highly recommend this place.

Report Check-In

Camped here the Monday before Sturgis , I’m the only one here. 90 degrees out . No shade . Wind from Canada. No bugs . Not sure if it’s always windy. Felt like low 80s.

Next morning, no wind. A few other campers pulled in but were spread far apart didn’t even hear them.

Some garbage. Left it cleaner then when arrived

Respect others, there is enuff room - don’t camp 10ft from someone who has camped .

Report Check-In

Pulled in at 9 pm. When you come down the road make the right on the dirt road and then a left towards the river. There are no designated spots. We just parked far enough away from others.
**Please clean up after your selfs. ***
No issues and enjoyed the river being less thank a few steps away.
Great spot.
No real I-90 noise. Bugs would have been an issue. Thankfully we have a big free room
No bathrooms

Report Check-In

Lots of space and not full at all. Very quiet. No 4x4 or high clearance recommended. The spots are very unclear but it looks like most people were just picking wherever. 3-4 bars Verizon LTE. Very close to town.

Report Check-In

Very nice place to stay! It is very quiet and right on the water. The park down from the spots has a pit toilet but idk if it is ever used or cleaned. Great Verizon service.

Report Check-In

great free sites with amenities closeby in a town park

Report Check-In

Several dirt roads to open spaces along Missouri River. 7-day limit, generally pretty quiet-can hear some of the traffic from I-90 but nothing crazy.

Report Check-In

Pretty nice site. We pulled in around 1am and no one was here. Come morning we woke up on the river. Rained all night but doesn’t look muddy, super windy though. Full att lte.

Individual sites were a bit confusing but we just pulled a little out of the way of the second loop

Report Check-In

Beautiful little spot. Felt decently private but close to nearby services. 4 bars T-Mobile LTE service. Room for van and a tent.

Report Check-In

Nice spot near the muddy Missouri River, can’t take a bath but it’s a nice spot to camp surrounded by wild sun flowers and very secluded spot. It’s muddy when rain other wise it’s easy to get to the riverbank. Full of bugs after dark!!! So many flies and took us a whole day to get rid of them all!

Report Check-In

Right on the Missouri River. Pulled in around 8 pm and we only seen one spot occupied. We're 15' from the river and Park within walking distance. We settled in for dinner and some shut-eye. Quiet so far w numerous boats on the river. Definitely would recommend it. I can see where other reviews didn't stay if it was rainy though.

Report Check-In

Loved this spot! Hardly a soul around. Huge swath of black-eyed Susans. River right outside my windows, with nothing but cliffs and nature on the other shore. Verizon 4 bars LTE.

Report Check-In

Nice spot but weird town. opened my door at 11pm & there were a few guys fishing? / quietly wading around in the bushes/river with headlights right in the camp site, like 4 ft from my door. Kinda creepy. Nice fireflies & 2 Bars LTE though.

Report Check-In

Nice place, tons of mayflies around this time

Report Check-In

Very nice, flat areas next to water, some trees and vegetation to provide privacy. Beautiful sunset and sunrise.

Report Check-In

This place was so easy to find. There are a few winding dirt roads and a sign that says “camping for up to 7 days. We drove right up to the water and parked between two bushes. Another car was parked way on the other side. There was plenty of room. It was lovely waking up next to the water. There was a park outhouse that was presently clean. No running water.

Report Check-In

Tried to stay here tonight but the camping area is flooded out. Talked to a local and you can still camp at the park, but we're going to leave and try to find another site with less mosquitos.

Report Check-In

6/21/2019 all the sites are flooded. Camped at Dude Ranch instead.

Report Check-In

Nice spot down by the river. Please keep it clean and be respectful.

Report Check-In

I had chosen this area first, but of the 3 out of 4 entrances it just looked too muddy to take a class A and toad down; the 4th one, wasn't too bad, so we walked it till toward the E ? until I saw the next batch of pink rocks/stones on the left, it was pretty muddy at that point and I never did see a place big enough to be able to turn around much less do major backing up without having to unhook the toad, so we headed for Dude Ranch. This would have been nice except for the issue if getting stuck and getting out without too much trouble . . .

Report Check-In

beautiful free camping along the river! limit 7 days dry camping here. let's keep this one clean and beautiful!

Report Check-In
