Description

This is the last station that can be reached by car or motorbike when going to the Vulcano. They have Cabanas and a huge place for camping or any type of van. I didn't stay there since I was walking all the way from the very nice town Chapultenango and then straight to the vulvano. The hike is like medium difficult... Was sleeping on top of the crater. It's just mindblowing... For motorbike riders I can just highly recommend the road that comes from the south - Tuxtla... Didn't had any problem... Just friendly people... Was invited by locals to stay in their house...

50 p/P, clean toilets and bucket showers. Nice people and very beautiful nature! Quiet. Hike to the vulcano only with guide (500 pesos), beautiful and easy, 2,5h up, 1,5h down. Perfect for kids.

Stayed here with "E l I n e" in our camper truck as well with the locals. The volcano is awesome and we have it all to ourselves. Just want to note that the road from Pichucalco was absolutely horrible! So if you go this way make sure to have plenty of time. We did it with our two Fords F250

Little spooked by all the horror stories :) we met a creepy smiling man at the entrance who said it was 200 pessos each. That was an obvious lie. We couldn’t pass because the rain made the river go higher so we didn’t sleep at the campground. Locals offered us to stay. We did feel safe! Just the road there is rough!!! But we did it in a Ford F-250 + camper and managed

This was an interesting one. Road in is in pretty bad shape between Ixtacomitan and Chapultenango, big washed out sections. Doable in any rig but slow. The road from Chapultenango to the volcano is in better shape but much narrower. Takes about an hour for this part. New camp prices are 30p/p for entrance, only payable once. Then 50p/p for camping per night. Hike took 2 hrs up 1.5 back. It was lovely and we were alone on Monday morning after the coach loads of Sunday.

Here’s the interesting part...

There was only one other time in our year and a half in Mexico that I have been freaked out in a camp spot. Nothing actually happened, but... we went up to bed in a thunderstorm. As I got up there I looked out the window and realised one of the guys was standing right next to our camper, a matter of inches away, in the dark, in the rain, in silence, illuminated by lightning flashes. He was hidden behind our drawn curtain and I have no idea how long he was there. We turned the lights on and he left after about ten minutes of silently standing there and then lurked around behind the camper in the dark some more. We called out to him and he didn’t respond. It was very horror movie-esque and we didn’t get the best sleep. No idea what was going on... no harm done but maybe lock your doors.

Dirt road to here was very easy, lots of normal cars coming for a day visit.
Hike to the rim was around 4-5km. 3h up, 2,5h down with kids of 4 and 5 years old. Would guess that it would take 1,5h up and 1h down without kids.
Beautiful hike and stunning views when you are at the crater.
Paid 30/p for camping, also paid for the kids. Entrance fee was also 30/p,but didn't need to pay for the kids..
Lunch was good for around 100/orden.
(very) slow wifi available @ 15/h.
No cell reception.
