Description

Very chill border post. A good alternative to the Komatipoort border. There are hardly any queues and the formalities go seamless. No stress and no runner bothering you. The roads from both Swasiland and Mozambique are tarred and in good condition. You might encounter some military presence at the Mozambique side but don't worry about it. We traveled with two motorcycles.

Easy border post. At the site of Eswatini you van print just before the border crossing, at a white house with the text ‘Gelo Ice’. The guy asks 25 rand per print. We made ourselfs an fake e-mail booking for the adress in Moz,
The tourist fee is now 250 op.

Crossed Eswatini to Mozambique, easy relaxed process. US passports, no visa required as of earlier this year (EU too). Had us fill in immigration forms, wanted proof of a booking. 240 rand each entrance plus 100 rand road tax. TIP for our US plated vehicle was free, easy and quick to process.

Crossed Eswatini into Mozambique.

Eswatini was quick, easy and very friendly. very interested in our car. They did ask for our TRN as we are British with ZA registered vehicle.

Mozambique side, also friendly and helpful. A little slow as we did visa on arrival.

The sheer difference between the infrastructure on the two sides is crazy. no surprise that the moz side aren't the most motivated.

Lovely chap on the moz side also helped with sim cards.

so overall a pleasant experience.

we had PCR tests and accommodation booking to hand. note that the VOA is USD55 'due to exchange rate'

It took us 2 hours. DO NOT TRY AND CROSS WITHOUT ACCOMMODATION BOOKING. We are from New Zealand and the first guy told us we should already have a visa which is a lie, we got one there. Be accurate with your accommodation address when they ask and know what border crossing you are leaving through. It cost $US50 each and then $US20 for the car insurance. You need lots of patience’s for this crossing.

Swazi side was quick; Moz side took us 1,5 hour. Paid no road tax and visa was R800 pp. We had a fake reservation email which helped a lot! When we crossed it was very quiet

Crossed here from Manzini, Swaziland ro Maputo, Moz. Lots of road works on Swazi side (7km on gravels before Siteki), but the road nearing the border is good tar on both sides. Exiting Swazi is easy and the customs stamped out my carnet (which was first stamped in @ Cape Town, RSA). Took me less than 15 mins. In Moz, the immi asked for my print out hotel booking which I have and showed him. He noticed I'm a biker and was excited to show me his bike. Automatically things get easier for me with the customs officer bcos we are now 'friends' 🤣🤣 Paid nothing except for insurance, R140 for one motorbike.

Quite and nice looking border post. The Eswatini side is great. The Mozambican side is ok. Some officials were friendly and helpful, others rude. Travelling on a Belgian passport, I experienced the same problem with not having an accommodation booking. It took me two hours to sort out the problem. I only saw these comments afterwards.

When entering Mozambique: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BOOKING FOR AT LEAST FIRST NIGHT IN MOZAMBIQUE AND IT IS PRINTED OUT. They wouldn’t give us the visa on arrival without this, so we had to go back to Eswatini side and get it printed out there (booking done on booking.com - Joao’s Place doesn’t need credit card details and can be cancelled for free). You can buy SIM card and the mandatory car insurance across the road - we paid 280 rand for 30 days Mozambique car insurance and 20 rand for vodacom SIM card and 500 metical for 5GB data which lasts 30 days. We were also able to change rand into metical with the guy whom we bought our car insurance from (1 rand = 4.2 metical). To print on Eswatini side it is a 5 min walk, leave your car so you don’t have to show passport etc. - just ask someone on Eswatini side where you can print and they’ll point out directions.

We waited for two hours (they were watching a TV series), they didn't want to give us the visa because we didn't have a letter of invitation. They clearly said that is not mandatory to have it but they want it anyway...At the end the guy who is going to host us in Maputo called them (fortunately our Swaziland sim card was still working) and they gave us the visa, just bullying attitude. And bring a pen, you have to fill a form and they say they don't have pens...
