Don’t trust Evaldo!! We had arranged a trip from Porto Jofre to Curumba and met a second car in Porto Jofre that had done the same. The night before our ship was scheduled to sail we talked to Evaldo and he confirmed that we should be at the port by 7am. We arrived there at 6:15 to learn that the ship had sailed without us at 5am. Made for a long drive down south…

We decided to go with Douglas and his barge from Corumba to Porto Jofre. We left on a Monday evening and arrived on Friday at 04.00 am at Pto Jofre. Our trip was spectacular, we loved every moment of it. Douglas's ship is called Nova Martin's and he offers 4 bunk bed cabins (we had one cabin for the 2 of us) with a fridge and sockets to charge your devices, with shared toilet & shower. WiFi throughout the trip and 3 meals daily, incl sweet, strong Brazilian coffee and bottled water. We were the only Overlanders, some local folks and lots of Brahman cattle and cargo for the farmers upriver. The ship pushed 3 pontoons. It's the real deal. This is a 24/7 operation, with offloading along the way and shipping throughout the night. You get to meet the farmers who are waiting ashore whilst their goods are offloaded. Our Land Rover just fitted into one of the cattle pen and was surrounded by Brahman cattle. It's not the cheapest option but well worth it for the services offered. We also knew that we would have rain and 6 degrees of cold weather on our trip and were really happy to not live in and out of our Landy on the unprotected pontoon whilst on the river. You can contact Douglas in portuguese on what's app +55 67 9805-1767. Have fun, we thoroughly enjoyed this awesome journey and can certainly recommend it to anybody. Douglas and his crew take good care of you.

I asked for a quote at the cattle pier. Problem was, the boat wouild go there with me and my car, but only for us. So the price became prohibitive with 8500 brl.

We got the contact from Ailton at Jaguar Camp. Cacaio +55 67 9999 3554 is the owner located in Corumbá. In the end we were very happy with how everything went. On Monday morning we were told that the barge would arrive at 3pm. It finally arrived after 6pm and left at 7pm. Staff from nearby Hotel Pantanal Norte was very friendly and helpful in explaining how delays come about and directly communicating with Cacaio to check status. It stopped for some 4 hours during the first night. We arrived in Corumbá Wednesday 3am and disembarked just before 4am. So in total we spent some 34 hours on the boat. We only had 2 stops for loading/unloading and the ship goes at about 13km/h. Fellow Overlanders that had come the opposite direction on the same barge, had spent 70 hours on the boat due to many stops. Food was very basic but good. Paid US$550. Crew was very helpful and the captain very professional and skilled.

We paid $900,- for two cars from porto joffre to corumba.

This was our experience.
Warning: transport of tourists is not his main business.
We starten our trip with a drunken crew and spent the night next to a fazenda. The next morning they loaded 800 cows and we were surrounded by them. It was smelly.
Getting on the boat was easy. Getting of was a challenge.

Total trip: 2 nights/3days. They Told us 1,5 days.

We did not try the food.
The first day we saw kaijman and giantotters.
