Arranged the trip with Al Macedo (WhatsApp +55 45 99105-9964), he speaks very good English and does all the communication with Genivaldo, the skipper of the boat (Laura Vicuña). Approached him approx. 2 weeks before the trip.
Al was very responsive to all our questions and updated us almost daily on the schedule.
We were told to be at the harbor Friday 5 pm and embarked at 5:30.
Trip was very smooth, got to Porto Jofre after 3 days Monday night just before midnight. Disembarked at 6 am in daylight.
Negotiated 3000 BRL for Sprinter w/ 2 ppl. 500 deposit by PayPal, the rest after arriving.

additional:
you have to pay in the end of the trip in cash in brasilien R$. No possibility to change money in Porto Jofre. Also difficult to change enough in the banks in Corumbá. (each car R$ 4'000, enclouding 3 meals a day, airconditioned room if you like)

the only ship that was delivering in this days was Douglas one, so we went with him. we had great days. Douglas is an excellent boss and the team is also excellent, all hard workers and each one knows his job perfect, they are friendly and cooperative. (We haven't seen any alcohol) The ship is clean, shower and toilet get cleaned often in a day. The cook Ferera is looking for pamper us and he speaks spanish. All in all to recommend!

My boat trip was supposed to go to Porto Jofre today.
Yesterday evening I asked Evaldo via WhatsApp if everything is ok for today.
He wrote me back that the boat trip is canceled and will not be another trip for the next 15 days.
I already had a discussion with him in advance because of the price. He asked me for 1,500 reales. A friend of mine paid 1'000 Reales three weeks before. (1 person with 1 motorcycle).
It was generally difficult to communicate with Evaldo, because he often does not answer or gives only unclear information.

So you should be prepared that you can not rely on his information for sure.

We went with Evaldo. Paid 2500 per vehicle.
It started off a little bit strange because Evaldo said he did not know, that we were coming, although he texted us in the morning to come to the port at 7pm. Well after a little bit of discussions we could embark the boat.
Just make sure that you don't drive on the boat in the main harbour of Corumbá. Another vehicle that went with us had a little accident driving on the boat because it was too steep and the plank got loose. In the end a crane needed to come for the recovery. There's a much safer spot to embark the ponton a few miles downstream.
Other than that the ride to Porto Jofre was a real adventure, too much to tell in the review here.
Unfortunately we did not see any big wildlife but nonetheless I would totally recommend the ride.

Report Check-In

We decided to go with Douglas and his barge from Corumba to Porto Jofre. We left on a Monday evening and arrived on Friday at 04.00 am at Pto Jofre. Our trip was spectacular, we loved every moment of it. Douglas's ship is called Nova Martin's and he offers 4 bunk bed cabins (we had one cabin for the 2 of us) with a fridge and sockets to charge your devices, with shared toilet & shower. WiFi throughout the trip and 3 meals daily, incl sweet, strong Brazilian coffee and bottled water. We were the only Overlanders, some local folks and lots of Brahman cattle and cargo for the farmers upriver. The ship pushed 3 pontoons. It's the real deal. This is a 24/7 operation, with offloading along the way and shipping throughout the night. You get to meet the farmers who are waiting ashore whilst their goods are offloaded. Our Land Rover just fitted into one of the cattle pen and was surrounded by Brahman cattle. It's not the cheapest option but well worth it for the services offered. We also knew that we would have rain and 6 degrees of cold weather on our trip and were really happy to not live in and out of our Landy on the unprotected pontoon whilst on the river. You can contact Douglas in portuguese on what's app +55 67 9805-1767. Have fun, we thoroughly enjoyed this awesome journey and can certainly recommend it to anybody. Douglas and his crew take good care of you.

I contacted Hugo who was quick to respond. He quoted $600 (US) for the 2 1/2 day trip north. I think Evaldo's (the owner) number needs a +55 before it will work. Eventually I spoke with Evaldo and said I thought $600 was too much so we agreed $500 and after rounding paid 2000 reales for a VW camper and 2 passengers. The trip includes breakfast, lunch and dinner and food was basic but tasty. All the crew were helpful, professional and friendly. The price may be more negotiable heading north as they take empty barges up and bring cattle down. They also deliver a lot of other goods including fuel to the communities along the river. A gentle journey up river. In total it's about 340km with all the bends. Hugo told me 500km but its not that far. We left 8pm Friday and arrived 2am Monday morning. We slept the rest of the night where we were dropped off. If you want to catch the boat south make sure you arrange this as the boat turned around and headed south as soon as we'd disembarked. It didn't hang around.

The boat should leave friday evening, but we finally left sunday morning and arrived thuesday at about 4pm.
We paid B$ 4'500 for two cars, a Landrover and a VW T3 Kombi.
It was a very nice boat trip and experience. We would do it again, much better than driving all around to get to the northern Pantanal!
