As described. Quiet, sandy, ok with our 29ft class C.

this site is not free anymore. As soon as you make the turn into the dirt road there is a sign that says pay online @mexicanhatrocks.com and it is $15 +tax per night for boondoking. pretty epic place to park your rig but not free anymore for staying over night.

I drive 2wd and no problem getting in and finding a level spot. no visible toilets so plan ahead. probably one of my favorite free camping spots so far this place felt so cool and safe. I have Verizon and didn't have service but I borrowed a phone from a car passing by and they had service.

Great views day and night (stars are awesome) and plenty of space. Some broken bottles and trash, so keep your shoes on and help clean it up.

AT&T - 28.6 mbps upload, 10.7 mpbs download (without antenna or booster)
Verizon - non-existent for the most part. Sometimes we’d get a few bars of 3G, but nothing that you could work off of.

We conducted our video calls easily on AT&T speeds.

good look at the hat. Good cellular signal most any rig can make it. there's a improved road to a gravel pit.

Just a few vans in the area, otherwise all alone out here on a February eve. Of course there’s a windstorm out there, entire van full of fine red powder. Gorgeous views.

Awesome spot, had a beautiful peaceful night with unobstructed view of the stars and Hat rock. When the moon came out I could see clearly in any direction. had a couple vans spread out in the same lot for the night. Good AT&T reception

Word of advise for you adventurer tent campers in the summer. You better bring 20 gallons of water to survive out here.

Beautiful spot !

Only a few RVs. Very nice quiet place to sleep. Many pullouts along the road it it was more crowded that could have been used as well

If you’re looking for a peaceful, isolated spot, this isn’t it. The hills were filled with vans, RVs, trailers, jeeps, and other vehicles. As I pulled in to this location in mid afternoon, cars were leaving after a fruitless search. I left also. This would be a lovely place, except that everyone goes there.

Awesome views just off the highway. Beautiful view of Mexican Hat. I got my 22’ RV backed up a hill. Clearance on the spot I chose was close with the length of the rig, but there were plenty of other spots. Finding a flat spot could be tricky. Every RV I saw used some blocks to level.

Quiet and beautiful place in an amazing landscape.

Really a good place. Could
Take larger rigs. Four bars on phone. About 20 miles north of Monument Valley.

Solid site with a view Mexican Hat rock formation. Was very easy for my Honda Accord to reach this spot and we were the only people there. Nice walking opportunity to the river. My friend said it was his favorite campsite of all time!

Beautiful views overlooking river. 4wd required to get to river overlook. There is also camping not far off the road that does not require 4wd.

Great spot while I drove through. I think the place is well known because a lot of RV's and cars areready there as I arrived at 8 pm. The place is still worth to rest and very quiet in the night

Great views in front of Mexican hat rock

This spot was great, no problem with our 2WD 21 feet RV. Might be tricky if there has been a lot of rain. More options if you have 4WD.

Great little campsite, as described by the previous users. Can’t be seen from the highway and good little bit of solitude. Nice little hike down to the river if you choose

Report Check-In

Quiet free place to camp. Near Mexican Hat rock. No amenities. Good ATT reception

A series of spots along the San Juan River near the Mexican Hat rock formation near Bluff, UT. The spots are level and beautiful. The road down was a little tight on one turn and I wouldn't recommend a large rig trying to make it down. Spots back up to the river bank and have a great view of the stars at night.
