"The Camping “La Cumbre del Macizo” is a very nice place, located very close to the different tourist sites of the archaeological zone of San Agustín. It is only 800 meters from the urban center of the small town and 1400 meters from the Archaeological Park. This beautiful and cozy place, ideal for Overlanders by car (motorhome), motorcycle or bicycle, offers you everything so that you can enjoy the greatest comfort during your stays in San Agustín, it consists of a large green area for parking and camping, native forest, WIFI, bathrooms, showers hot water, campfire area with free firewood, fully equipped kitchen for free use (spectacular), parking for small, medium and large camper platforms, very comfortable rooms with private bathroom, excellent service from its owners. COP $40,000 per vehicle (2024). Location phone number +57 3204780261
Additionally, you can hire ATV (quad bikes) tours on horses or in vans to the tourist sites of San Agustín such as La Chaquira, La Pelota, El Purutal, Magdalena Strait, Alto de las Piedras Park, Alto de los Ídolos Park, Salto del Mortiño, Isnos
Very steep road but there is a small detour from Altos de Yerbabuena restaurant.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Really nice camping, the kitchen and hot showers are perfect. It was 40'000 per night for 2 people and the van. They have 3 really nice dogs, they played all the time with ours. Paolo is super nice too! We stayed 5 nights. We can only recommend!
Report Check-InGreat stay here, outdoor cold showers were nice in the heat and their indoor hot ones were lovey at night. Dogs are very friendly- the husky, Lucas, will try to follow you if you walk to town or the archeological site- don’t let him ! He wanders off so best if you let the owners know :)
Easy walk to town and to archeological site and cascada al cinco. We did take a taxi back up from town after food shopping though with the hill ! Here’s a taxi number for Oscar if you need- 311 832 43 04
Nice campsite in nature with friendly owners and lots of friendly dogs!
They opened up one of the cabanas for us so we could have a hot shower, and also let us run an extension cord to keep the batteries topped up.
Nice camp friendly owner pablo, hot shower, kitchen good Wi-Fi 40 cop per vehicle
Report Check-InWe had a great stay here. We had planned to be here for 2-3 days but ended up staying for a week. David and his family are very kind and they treated us like part of the family.
We paid 20,000 COP per person per night.
The showers in the camping area are cold but if you ask nicely David will open a room for you to use a hot shower.
Report Check-InStayed three nights, if it rains at all, which it did the whole time we were there, the parking area becomes a giant mud pit. The site will be great once the guest kitchen is complete, but did not seem like any improvements were being actively made. Well equipped kitchen is also the host kitchen, and they were always using it. Nice family, but felt like we were in their private space, which was kind of weird.
Report Check-InNice place, surrounded by a garden with fruittrees and good smelling plants. The lady was very friendly and welcoming. In the morning she brought us tasty aromatic tea. She opened a room for us to have a really good hot shower! Toilets are clean. Good Wifi. There is communal space to sit and a kitchen, but they are building a new communal kitchen and three more rooms for rent. Camping in a Van for 2 persons was 40 000 cop per night. We really reommend this place!
Report Check-InBeautiful and quiet spot up the hill. Had a great time here. Pablo wasn’t there but his family took really good care of us. This place is fantastic, kitchen is great. I definitely recommend it! Still 40k pesos per car.
Report Check-InIf you are visiting the San Augustine Archaeological site this is a great place to stay. Pablo is a young guy with big dreams. He has built a few beautiful places on site for people to stay along with a lovely common area and washrooms. The showers are refreshingly cold but as stated earlier if no one is staying in the room Pablo will allow you to use the hot shower and it is spa like. A great grassy area to park your rig. We stayed two nights and walked the 15 minutes to the archaeological site.
Report Check-InWe are undepowered and overweight so we took a little detour, which was completely fine. Go to the restaurant Altos de Yerbabuena and take the first right. First right is maybe after 500m.
Pablo was very nice, has beaaautiful rooms, campground, hot showers, clean everything. He has even three lovely dogs. Very peaceful and quiet.
We ordered pizza from Ambrosia.
Pablo has a well-organized little campsite here with a toilet/shower house (cold water), several places to sit, a fire pit, a kitchen and very good internet! As long as the hotel room in the main house is not rented out, he opens it up for overlanders to have a hot shower.
It still costs 40k/vehicle/night.
Unfortunately, the water from the taps and the shower was yellow-brown and smelled bad when we visited. Maybe just temporary?

Report Check-InWe really liked it here. We parked next to a picnic table covered by an umbrella. Cold shower and two toilets near the camping area. They open a hotel room for overlanders to get a luxurious hot shower. They have several dogs, and they are all friendly. Our dog had an amazing time playing all day and night. About a 20ish minute walk into town. Lots of rocks to get level. 40,000 pesos per night per vehicle.
I filled up our water tank before leaving without asking where it came from. It’s unfiltered straight from the river, but Pablo says he drinks it no problem. We have a filtration system, but maybe avoid filling up if you don’t. The water is slightly yellow-brown but tastes ok (after filtering).
Report Check-InVery nice campsite. Everything was neat and the dogs were well behaved.
When I was sick, Pablo used his car to help me with my treatment.
Excelente camping, excelentes servicios, wifi, agua caliente, espacio, naturaleza, sombra, muy cerca de Parque Arqueologico 40.000 cop x vehículo.😊🌿☀️❤️
Report Check-InVery good Place! Highly recommended!
Lot‘s of Space with or without trees!
Clean, super kitchen. Hot shower!
Nice birds in the Garden.
You have everything you need: a well-equipped kitchen, reliable wifi, rest areas, lots of nature, bathrooms, and, best of all, a spectacular hot water shower. We came for 1 night and stayed 7 nights; you can take tours to the archaeological sites on horse, by private car, or, as we did, on some fun ATV ATVs available for rent at the campsite. 40.000 COP/night car
Report Check-InWe stayed here for three nights and had an incredible time. The hosts are very welcoming and lovely. All the amenities are really clean 👍 IMPORTANT: NEW PRICES since 01.01.2024 - COP 40.000 per Night
Report Check-InNice shady spots to pitch our tent. Great fireplace with free fire wood. 20k pp. showers and “bathroom” for camping are very basic and could be improved. Friendly hosts.
Report Check-InExcellent place for Overlanders. Pablo is a great host and helps you with everything. He is an excellent guide also taking you to some further away places where procolumbian statues are located.
Report Check-InWe were here over a week. This is really good place to stay, you have a lot of space and a nice fireplace. We also loved that you can camp on the grass:) And Pablo and Paula are really nice.
Report Check-InWe stayed 6 nights in this beautiful and calm spot. We enjoyed the wonderful garden and did a quad tour with Pablo which was great fun. Pablo took us to less touristy sites and explained us very interesting facts about the statues. Highly recommended!
Report Check-InCame for a night and stayed 3. Pablo, Paola, and the dogs are super sweet. price 35k cop for 2 in camper. We did a quad tour with Pablo yesterday that was super fun - 200,000cop - to see more remote countrywide and less touristy ruins. A very memorable experience 👍
Report Check-InGreat tranquil spot within walking distance to the archeological park. Paid 35000 p nt for 2 people. Wonderful hot shower and a kitchen that can be used. Pablo is a great host and we loved the dogs.
Report Check-InStayed here two nights. It‘s still 35k per vehicle per night. The access road has an inclination of about 25%, which is not a problem unless your vehicle is completely underpowered. Walking distance to village and to archeological park.
Report Check-InThis is true paradise for overlanders: spacious garden with sufficient trees to find some shade. Superquiet at night. You can order very good pizzas from pizza restaurant in town (Ambrosia). WiFi is excellent (various access points scattered around the terrain), hot (rain!)shower when you want. There is plenty of dry firewood to make campfires. Pablo and Paola are realising a dream!!
Report Check-InSuch a nice place! Hassan is a very friendly and helpful guy. The doggos are an absolute bonus too. Oh and the shower, there are no words to describe it! Wait until sunset and enjoy the hotness. The road up is steep indeed but unless you're both underpowered and overloaded, you should make it. Enjoy!
Report Check-InThis is a lawn of a small hostel. Great hot shower in a room. Very slow WiFi not good enough to work. nice barbeque. Coming from San Augustine there is. second off turn where the road is not so steep. We paid 35000 Cop for our Van and 2 people. No power point unless you have a very long extension cord.
Report Check-InWe spent two nights here to check out the town and the archaeological park. The town was super busy due to the celebration of la señora del Carmen. Hassam and his family are super nice. We paid 35k per night for 3 adults and the car. The kitchen is tidy and has a ton of cooking utensils and dishes to use. There are cold water showers and bathrooms, but if you want a hot shower, he'll open one of the hostel rooms for you to use. There are 2 different wifi networks with average speeds. The property is huge and can accommodate any size rig. The common area is comfortable with hammocks and tables and power outlets lining the walls. Everything was clean and very well maintained and you're surrounded by nature.
It rained a ton while we were there, making the ground soggy. We did try the restaurante italiano like Hourless life had suggested. They were on point with that recommendation, everything we ordered was delicious and cheap.
Report Check-InNot much to add to the below - we enjoyed two lovely rest days here. We’re on bikes, set up our tent, $20k per person per night. Loved the hot shower. Cyclists be warned, the hill up to it is STEEP. But worth the push (it is a push).
Report Check-InReally enjoyed our three-night stay here. Especially appreciated access to the private room with bathroom and hot shower. That was a treat. Love the rooftop patio with hammock and beautiful view of the hills. The power was out one day and the WiFi struggled for most of our stay, but that seems to be a regional issue in southern Colombia. We walked to the archaeological site, which by the way is closed on Tuesday. Best restaurant is Restaurante Italiano, which is well worth the short taxi drive. Excellent pizza, Bolognese pasta sauce, and sangria.
Report Check-InGreat spot and enjoyed our two night stay. Paid $35 a night for Dixie and myself. Decent Wi-Fi and HOT shower in the hotel room that Pablo the host opened. Level parking. Tall rig friendly. Several nice dogs on site that got along fine with Dixie. 15 minute walk to the archeological site which is great. Quiet at night.
Would have stayed longer but our visa is expiring.
Report Check-Inhighly recommend this place! lots of space to hang around, nice hammocks and a big covered area and kitchen in case of rain!
Report Check-InBeautiful garden and Pablo and Paola are super friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and met other overlanders. Our dog loved it here too. The hot shower (which you need to ask for) is excellent. The WiFi not so much, very spotty. Claro 4G network ranged from 0.2mbs to 35mbs depending on the time of day and the weather (?). Not ideal when you need to work online. Otherwise near perfect!
Report Check-InNice green garden, convenient kitchen, owners let us use the hot shower in one of the empty rooms. I would definitely recommend using the second access and not the one coming straight from the city since the super steep access and impossibility to cross vehicles coming the other way may put you in a tricky situation.
Report Check-InWe ended up staying 40 days as we caught up on some work, veterinarian visits and vehicle maintenance... Pablo and Paula are great, willing to help with anything they can. The hot shower by request is a real treat and the climate was very pleasant.
A short walk to the Archeological Site and a easy enough walk down to town. Although we found the 8k cop well worthwhile for the taxi ride back up the hill.
Several great restaurants in town:
Casa Jaguar - treat yourself to some fine dining.
La Gata Parrilla - Great Burgers and Kabobs, on the near side if town.
La Loceria - Great wings and pretty good burgers
Pizzeria Italiana - Wood Fired pizzas made before your eyes...
As everyone has said, a great place! Owners and dogs are very friendly. Wifi good, we were allowed to use the hot shower in the room, nice garden. 35 cop per vehicle.
Report Check-InNice and quiet. Close to town and archeological site. Friendly owner and dito dogs. Not everywhere very leveled you might need levelers or something.
Clean bathrooms. WiFi ok.
Maps.me or Google takes you up a steep hill to get there. You can take a next turn closer to archeological site that is a little less steeper.
Great place to camp in San Agustin, very close to El Parque Arqueológico. Wide spot to camp with your vehicle and your setup. Good food. Also you can use the showers of the bedrooms. We really enjoy our stay here.
Report Check-InRooms, camping and big rigs.
Lovely modern rooms in old Spanish style, hot water showers, shared kitchen - breakfast included with room. We paid €28 for double room.
Walking distance from ancient site but a bit out of town so own transport needed but lovely views.
Highly recommended
Really good place. Paulo is super helpful and friendly. This is a camping place, close to the Archeological Park and the town of San Agustin
Report Check-InNice place to stay! Very close to the ruins as well to the city center. Only a short walk. Enough space for big rigs. Only the road can be quite steep. If there are no guests in the guesthouse you can also use the hot shower. Only downside: You cant fill up water here as the water is not the cleanest. Very friendly owner.
Report Check-InNice place to stay 2 or more days - very near to arqueololigic site - and town - Pablo the owner very nice person - wifi in all site and the toillets clean - very recommended
Report Check-Inconfirmed new price is 35k. great place, very friendly owner. does speak some English. my only addition is to check the water quality when you fill up your tank here. I don't know if it's normal or because of the insane amount of rain causing sediment to get into the water, he said it was potable so I didn't check it before putting it into our tank, but it's tinted brown. I used my TDS tester and verified it's only 8ppm. which is incredibly low. the lowest I have seen this whole trip. the water has no flavor or smell, but it's still tinted brown. i drank it for 5 days now and it seems fine.
Report Check-InAgree with the past comments! Was great to spend a few days and relax in the area. We also rented the quads, was fun!
Report Check-InLike everyone else said it’s an amazing place for overlanders. Pablo is amazing and even though his English is limited he will always help you with whatever you need. The city and the archeological site are within walking distance but you will have to climb the steep hill on your way back from town.
We came to stay for a night and ended up staying for a week. 10/10
Report Check-InA must stay place
35k per night per car
Big green flat spaces
Hot and cold water
Wifi
Proximity to the necropolis
👍🏼
Really beautiful place here! Pablo’s dogs are super friendly with our playful dog. Clean facilities and wifi reached the van. Walking distance to the ruins. 35,000 COP for the night for two people in a van
Report Check-InYup! This is the place in San Agustin for overlanders. From here you can walk to town and the archeological park. Price is $15k COP for a single and $25k COP for two in one car. If the rooms in the main house aren’t rented out showers are also available. Very hot once it gets going.
Report Check-InThe Overland spot in San Augustin.
I can only agree with all the other comments. A lovely camping with all the facilities you need.
PAOLO is a great host!
A very nice place! Pablo is very welcoming, the dog are lovelies. The place feels confy and in the nature.
Wi-Fi is fast.
Shower, toilets and kitchen clean.
A wonderful place to relax! We spent 2 nights on this beautiful camping. Pablo is still working on the house but toilet, shower and kitchen are finished and can be used, as well as the nice area with tables, chairs and hammocks. 15mins walk to the parque arqueologico. We payed Total 35000 per night for a van (2 pers) + a tent (1 pers).
Report Check-InThis is a very nice park-like area for camping. We fully agree with the positive comments of previous entries and like to add:
- water ist yellowish all over the town, it’s not polluted, it’s potable!
- Access is steep - indeed. But with your car you can take the little detour via the restaurant “Altos de Yerbabuena” (1.88691, -76.28682), then next right up the hill.
- if you like nature and prefer a quiet night, this spot is much better than a spot down in the city.
- very nice host (and dogs)
- we stayed 4 nights!
+ can walk to the archeological park and town of San Agustin (both about 15 min)
+ nice owner, Pablo was very friendly and helpful
+ kitchen and hang out area
- water looks a bit brownish, didn’t use the showers
- it rained a lot and we barely made it out of the campsite with all the mud
Report Check-InNice Hostel being built (but for Overlanders is ready). All we need is here and new. Well taking care of by the owner who is building himself. Great place to stay. Good location also... Three friendly dogs. 25k per car or 15k if alone, like myself.
Report Check-InStill COP 25.000/night/camper. Good for big rigs (7,25 m x 2,50 m x 3,60 m). You can walk to the Parque Arqueológico. Quiet at night.
Report Check-InVery beautiful camping, the whole camping area looks like a beautiful park, it is really nice and we recommend it. Close to the archeological park. Walking distance to the village is ca 20 minutes. Clean toilets and showers (cold). Friendly owners.
Report Check-InA young man with an eye for taste and quality is building a nice hostel. He has now 2 beautiful rooms ready. He invests the money he earns in the rest of the place. The campsite has nice views and excellent WiFi. Electricity to camper is possible with long cable. We connected ours to his long cable and it worked but you need the right adapters. Kitchen and nice big terrace with hammocks as well.
Report Check-InNice and super friendly care takers. They are changing and upgrading the place right now.
Kitchen, dining area and wifi in the main building and showers (cold) & toilets a bit further away.
25‘000 Pesos per car per night
Quait place, closy 15min walkingt to archeologic parc, average internet, cold shower.
Report Check-InVery good camp place. Safe, quiey and the host was a wonderful and kind person. Thanks. Please install hot water in showers.
Report Check-InBest place to stay in San Agustin, grassy area to park shaded by fruit trees. Good WiFi, kitchen is in good conditions, plenty of tables and benches to sit, dog friendly. The location for us worked perfectly, is very quiet on top of the hill and very short walk to the arquelogic park. The access road is steep but completely doable. Pablo is a great local host and a young entrepreneur who really knows what overlanders are looking for.
Report Check-InThe place is nice but water was so yellow. Quiet steep paved road to the finca. You will think twice before going to town and come back. Place is clean but the water problem need a solution. WiFi was ok
Wifi ok. Instalaciones limpias
Report Check-InLovely campground. Big and green. The kitchen is really well equipped. Everything you could possibly want is there. Showers and bathrooms clean. The veranda is great to hang out with nice views. Dogs are super friendly. Thanks Pablo for making this place available!
Report Check-InStay here, great place! We checked out and stayed at a few other options in town but this place wins. Pablo is working hard to build a very nice property, loves Overlanders and his place has everything you’ll need. WiFi was great, bathrooms/ kitchen (with oven!) really the entire grounds where very clean. Friendly dogs that got along great with ours. Best of all the place was quiet at night. No traffic noise, no roosters to wake you up and no dogs barking through the night. Slept like a rock. Easy walk to both town and ruins. We wanted to stay longer
Report Check-InPeaceful and convenient. Nice walk to the ruins. Best wifi we've had in Colombia! Nice owners and super gentle, friendly dogs. Kitchen to cook and/or wash dishes. Clean toilets. Great place to stay for several days!
Report Check-InA great place to spend your days in San Agustín. The kitchen is great, the veranda really nice, especially when it rains - and it did a lot. The terrain is muddy but this problem will be solved in the future, as Pablo said. Showers are still with cold water only. Pablo is a great host.
Report Check-InBeautiful grounds, and the veranda pretty much makes it. Kitchen is great too. Yhr ground is very muddy when it rains (it did when we were there, and we got stuck in the parking area. Looks like other overlanders have had trouble, judging by ruts). Cold water. The water comes from river, so Pablo said definitely boil it, but it will still be very brown color. Steep road, about half an hour walk to center of town. Walk back up is challenging. Pablo does keep it clean. (But no free coffee or bread or anything.)
Report Check-InI think it is the best campsite in San Agustin! A big garden with lots of trees for shade. The kitchen is awesome. The common space to rest and eat too. The bathroom was clean. no hot shower yet. Pablo is a very nice host. The place is very well located. It is 10 minutes of very nice walk to go to the archeological site. The place is perfect to stay a few day and rest.
We needed to go to the archeological site and did a U turn to find it. The sign (Alto de los andaquies) is more visible going from the archeological site to the town. You will turn left in that way. There is no sign with the name of the camping but it is between 2 hostal : Pachamama and Alto de los andaquies. Highly recommended!
We stayed here for 3 nights and overall our stay was good. While we were there it rained allot so was a bit muddy but not a show stopper. The facilities are all nearly brand new, i.e. kitchen, toilets etc. The showers are cold and dont have any shelf space to store stuff, IMO the only down side and the asking price of 25000 per vehicle is ok when there us 4 people but 2up on a bike it was a bit higher than the 10pp asked elsewhere. We were able to get for 10pp which was good. The camping was nice and quiet and only a 15min walk into town....with the hill on the way back a good workout
Report Check-InVery beautiful campsite with great views and very friendly owner, Pablo, with his young and friendly dog, Happy. Everything in start-up fase but will be very beautiful. Fully equipped, very clean kitchen with loads of amenities (finally made appelvlaai, we're Dutch, again!). Highly recommended.
Note on directions: maps.me doesn't know the road, but turn right at the signs of "Alto de los andaquies" and follow the road. Campsite is located between hostal Alto de los Andaquies and Hostal Pachamama. Just call at the gate or walk in and you will find Pablo or he will find you. :)
I think this will be the best Overland place in San Augustine. Pablo is really concentrating on getting us everything we need for a great stay. The camping is nice and private. Awesome views and really short, beautiful walk to the Archeological site. Hot water is coming soon!
Report Check-InGreat large place. For most locations you need a 50meter extension to the nearest power outlet. Wifi only available close to the house. Movistar 3G signal, although bumpy at times.
Report Check-InVery nice camp and host. Lots of shade and level ground. Flush toilet with tp no soap, cold shower. Plenty of guayaba trees of which you can take as much as you like. Free, fresh bread and coffee or Agua panela in the morning. Very close to the archeological site. 20,000 ColP/per car.
Report Check-Invery good facilities, excellent, very good attention recommended
muy buenas instalaciones, atención excelente, muy recomendado
