Description

Large camp site with one rental cabana.
A friend told us about this place. He explained it as a living museum.
Rustic but very nice, much nicer than the facility at El Tajín.

Great spot on a grassy area. Lot of birds. There are coyotes at night. You can refill the water tank. José has a lot of knowledge about vanilla and is delighted to share, and to show its small plantation.
100 pesos per person for the night.
Vanilla tour on donation (we gave 50 per person and he was happy).

Beautiful place. Now the house is completed, Nicer than the photo. Jose receive stagiaire and students in a large place with beautifull tables. Only 100 pesos pp and you can fill your tank. We were looking for extraction vanilla and he sell it. Natural not artificiel
On our Google maps it said 1h30 by the road FALSE. It is very easy by the main road to get his place. After or before El Tajin.

This place is a beautiful must stop if we ever come through here again. Luis and his family are wonderful. The property suffered damage to the trees during a hurricane in August 2021 and it’s less shady now. However, it’s an impeccable kept property and you can tell how much they care about it.

There’s a 1 km slightly bumpy narrow road in, but the parking area is wide open for maneuvering.

There are composting toilets that are very clean with no smell whatsoever. There is also a bathroom with running water up by the house that you are allowed to use if you ask and it has a shower. Everything is clean. A gate to the road is closed every evening around dark, so it’s very secure and there is no traffic. Only traffic during the day is from workers going to and from the farms.

His knowledge of vanilla and the history is amazing.

Tajín ruins are about 20 minutes away, so it’s a great spot to stay if you plan to visit.

You can stop there ! It’s okay !
Luis is a very nice guy, he will help you and talk with you about his vanilla plantation :)
We stayed with our 2 dogs for a night for 200 pesos. He needs a little help money wise because a big storm destroyed most of his place a few months ago. He is rebuilding it with his family poco a poco. Compost toilet very rustic, nice view of the surrounding, and lots of place to walk the dogs around. Have a coffee with him in the morning, he is a super cool.

We are very positive surprised about this place. Luis told us all about Vanilla and its history for about two hours. Showed us his garden ‚eden‘ and although his family visited him, he took all the time we needed. We paid 150 mex per person inkl. the tour and we think its defently worth the money, wherelse you get so great information. Thank you Luis.

Luis is a nice guy. He showed us his vanilla plants and gave us an excellent, interesting talk (only in Spanish) on the vanilla 'industry'. I was happy to pay for that as I have always been curious about vanilla growing. And it's a pretty, peaceful spot too. HOWEVER.... 100pesos per person is too much for a site with almost no facilities. Long-drop dry-compost toilet - nothing else. No water at all, not even a sink to wash hands after going to the toilet. You need to cook for yourself (it's not possible to go to a restaurant in the evening as the gate is locked around 18:30 hrs) so you need to bring all your own water to cook, wash pots etc. Luis was only there in the daytime. In the evening he left us on our own, locked the gate and came back in the morning. He left us with no contact phone number (actually no phone signal there, so probably no point 😁). We had a peaceful night, but can't say that it's good value.

Just follow the signs. Beautiful location to spend the night. Great, personal tour of history of Vanilla and harvesting of wild vanilla. Luis was very enthusiastic about his work/hobby. With 6 months of travel, this was only the second time we paid for a place to sleep and well worth it. 100 pesos per person. Flush toilets and cold showers.

It's a little bit tricky to find it. The coordinates are okay. Luis was very friendly and showed us his vanilla farm and explained all about vanilla, Spanish spoken. A very interesting experience.

Report Check-In

The coordinates are for Finca Asuncion which is closed, follow the main trail for about 200m.
As below described. We loved it. Ask Luis for the 'Vanilla Tour' the smell is unforgettable.
Paid 100 mexp / pers / night / incl Vanilla Tour.
Could refill our watertank with good water too.

Awesome little campground with ponies, puppies, dogs and chickens. Loved it! Owner is so friendly and welcoming and runs tours of his vanilla farm.

Nightly rate is M$200 but we thought this was a bit much and talked Luis down to M$150. Toilets and shower available and a lovely setting to camp including a 'comedor'.
