we at www.steelhorsecolombia.com in filandia are sorry that la serrana has closed. we have recommended this spot for the last 2 years to our guests, despite the varying fees and recent safety concerns, everyone seemed to have a great time. we hope la serrana resurrects shortly

Report Check-In

CLOSED. I sent a message to La Serrana to confirm whether they're still accepting overlanders and they said they're not. Apparently they closed up most of the business a few weeks ago.

Report Check-In

Seems to be closed! All gates locked, nobody there.
Asked the neighborhood, they say it's permanently closed.

Report Check-In

Arrived to be informed that this place is now closed

Report Check-In

Highly recommend, stayed for five days in our rooftent and didn’t want to leave! Beautiful view, lovely helpful staff (printed and copied some pages for us for free), good wifi, very nice bathroom in the camping area with hot showers (if you don’t take too long!) and met lots of other nice overlanders. Breakfast was good too, all in all great value camping for 15,000pp. Our dog was allowed.

Report Check-In

Excelente vista desde la camioneta, muy lindo lugar. Todos muy amables. Baños limpios con agua caliente. WiFi en la casa. Desayuno incluido, 15.000 por persona.
Muy recomendable.

Great place, lovely and helpful people...can highly recommend! We stayed here with our big rig.

15000 pesos colombianos por persona que incluye el desayuno. Lugar perfecto

Good place to stay. Quiet with a beautiful view. When we were there, there were no electricity so no wifi and no hot shower. Kitchen. We paid 15000pppn with a breakfast (2 eggs, 1 bread, butter, 1 fruit and coffee, the or chocomilk) Staff are really friendly.

Report Check-In

Great views over the mountain. For big rigs they have a second entrance. Breakfast and electricity included in their low price. Jeeps are cheap to get to town.

Salento est situé à 20 minutes à pied. Très jolie petit village coloré et animé. Vous pouvez aller à la Vallée de Cocora en Jeep depuis la place centrale pour 4 000 pesos par personne.

Cet endroit est juste parfait !!!

Report Check-In

Wonderful place as per previous comments. 15K ppn including parking, electric, water, wifi (we picked it up easily with our antenna) AND breakfast. A fantastic deal!

Report Check-In

We loved this spot and I think a lot of the previous criticisms of this place have been resolved. The camping itself is beautiful with a wonderful view of the valley with hammocks to chill. The toilet block is clean and pretty fancy, with plenty of hot water, just remember that it's a tank heater so be considerate. We paid $15kpp for a campervan. Recommended.

Report Check-In

Very nice, tranquil, social setting. During our stay it was very peaceful/quiet at night, including weekend. Showers still lukewarm (or cold) most of the time. 30k COP for two in a camper, inludes electric (110v) and decent breakfast. Recommended.

Report Check-In

One of our favorites in South America. Located a bit outside of the busy village. Nice sunsets and really nice and clean facilities. Stayed 4 nights.

Report Check-In

the price now is 12mil per person with breakfast included the toilet block is up and running and there is plenty hot water I camped here in a tent for two nights

Report Check-In

Other overlanders complained about the price, because of cold showers. They dropped it back to15.000 pp and we could use the hot showers inside. All together it's a good price for what you get. Very quiet, beautiful view and nice relaxing area in & outside. WiFi is mostly good, we could download and watch online tv. Laundryservice is 7.000 a kilo, in town it's cheaper (from 4.000 a kilo).
Be careful when you walk back from town: 3 girls were robbed at 7.30 pm with a gun, 50 meters before the entranceroad of the hostel! It's a very dark and quiet road. Apparently a week before something simular happened somewhere close to this road, so better take a Willy when it gets dark. Besides this, it feels very safe at the hostel and they have a guard during the night.

Report Check-In

19000 COP p/p now if you want to camp in your van (high season). We learned during our stay that the dorm price was 18000. When we tried to discuss with the owner about this injustice (we use no towels, mattresses, etc) she hang up the phone at her employee which was supporting us. The kitchen needs a bit of love and there was no hot showers after 3 minutes. Beautiful place though, it’s really sad that the owner just seems to care about money.

Report Check-In

correction on the price it is 19000 COP pppn

Report Check-In

Beautiful location. Not far from town and easy to walk to one if the coffee tours.
The price now is 18000pppn which i find quite expensive. Yes breakfast is included, but its one small piece of bread, 1/2 eggs and a banana. If you want anything extra you have to pay, even for milk in your coffee they ask 3000cop, which i find annoying. The showers are clean and warm but only for 5 minutes, so if you take a shower together with your child or one after the other you have to be quick. So i was dissapointed after all the good reviews and find it overpriced

Report Check-In

prices went steep up, 19.000pp if you bring your own tent. 90.000-130.000 for a private room (all off season). there are much cheaper and better options closer to town... just too much for what it is... if they cut the prices by 50% maybe worth staying there...

Report Check-In

. Nice quiet place with an amazing view
. payed 12000 cop/pp/pn for a tent
. very clean bathroom and breakfast include.
. very friendly staff

Report Check-In

We loved this place. We did glamping here, first time ever (60.000 COL for a couple and a dog, with breakfast).
A must in Salento, nice people and only 15' walking slowly to the village.

Report Check-In

Parked my bike and stored my bags for FREE as I did a two day trek in Los Nevados. Very nice folks. dorms super cheap and clean with hot water at 17,000 a night

Report Check-In

Big parking, grassy spots, great views, electricity and hot shower. Breakfast incl, wifi only in main bldg, 20min walk to town.

Report Check-In

Yes, the views here are beautiful, but for 15000/pp/pn, they seem to have their priorities wrong. First, wifi is slow, and it cuts in and out, and that's if you can even get a connection.

But that's not really a big deal compared to the water issue. If you are the second person to take a shower you won't have hot water. Ok, a little annoying. But then one afternoon the water ran out completely. We came back from a dusty walk and couldn't shower. The next day, the water was still out in the whole hostel. Toilets left unflushed, etc. The staff didn't apologize, they just made excuses.

The good news is that they have a big kitchen in main building. And the breakfast was actually our favorite part! The coffee is great and that staff is friendly. But I'd rather have a shower. So good luck.

Report Check-In

It is indeed an excellent campsite in every respect. We stayed for 5 nights and were very happy indeed

Report Check-In

Great bargain. Ultra clean, includes tasty breakfast with fabulous coffee, wifi, great views, easy walk into town. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Good spot for exploring Salento. 15pp (not per camper) in a van and 12 pp in a tent. They also had some glamping tents that were 60 per tent. This was a reduced price as on the website they are 80 per tent. Breakfast was ok, eggs and bread and a banana. Good coffee.

Report Check-In

Top spot with an incredible location and view. A meeting point for overlanders. Clean toilets, hot showers, good breakfast and all these for 15.000 per camper per night. A great deal!

Report Check-In

Oh and cost per night per camper is $15000 COP including breakfast, electricity is extra but not sure of cost :)

Report Check-In

Every country has that one campsite that is just magical. This is it. Great place to meet other overlanders, have fires at night and enjoy a simple but great breakfast in the morning. Also, there’s a black kitten living in the camping area, he’s super friendly and if anyone wants to take him, do it! Don’t miss out on this place!!

Report Check-In

Great place. One of these places you end up staying longer than you intended. You immediately feel comfortable and at home. Lovely spot for tent and car camping. Clean and very nice facility block for campers and the option to use all facilities of the hostel. About 20min easy walk to the center of town, shopping and restaurants. Car camping including simple breakfast is COP 15‘000 pp/pn

Report Check-In

Spectacular place as everyone says. Entry height at the main entrance is 2.7 meters. Big rigs use the 2nd entrance; just watch for one low roof corner; the road is ample.
The sign saying no dogs inside the house should be changed or removed, as there were several dogs sleeping on the upholstered furniture when we arrived; they also love to hang out in the kitchen and dining area during breakfast time.
Internet works well enough outside of peak hours.

Report Check-In

One of the nicest campground (yes, it is a camping not a parking lot of a hostel!) we have ever stayed. The previous comments are accurate BUT when we were there they were having problems with the water. Bathroom and showers were out of water. I know, sometimes we can’t fight with mother nature but it took 3 hole days to fix it! Too much time for a camping with +20 people. Other than that, the place is perfect!
I love waking up and having eggs and bread for breakfast ready and waiting for me!!

IMPORTANT INFO:
I have a LR Defender with rooftop tent and they charged 10k COP per person (the same as camping). We asked if this was right and they confirmed. I think they charge 15k COP pp only for big rigs or campers/camper van...

Report Check-In

Absolutely loved this place - beautiful views, decent wifi inside the main building, nice bathrooms, friendly staff and just a short walk to town. Who on earth are these people whinging about the size of breakfast?! I would love for someone to cook me eggs and make me coffee every morning! We thought 15,000pp per night was really reasonable. There are 2 parking spaces on a large concrete pad which are ideal if the grassy area is a bit wet. Access road is gravel / concrete and no problem after heavy rain.

Report Check-In

Probably one of the best paid campsites we've had the whole trip. 15k pp, but includes breakfast and beautiful, clean facilities.

Potable water, outstanding views, very friendly staff.

Internet is pretty abysmal after 7am when everyone starts using it, but you should just walk into town and go do something cool anyway.. ;)

A fair amount of flat parking, HOT showers, plenty of other travellers to have a beer or coffee with, 10 minute walk into Salento.

Report Check-In

Tried to stay there but reception of claro is really bad ob side where you can put the RV (we need it to work). Asked to put it on the parking lot where the reception is much better. The guy at the reception denied. Pretty unflexible...
So we had to stay at another place

Report Check-In

We are 3.47 meters (11'-4"), and had no problems accessing the camping area. Sites are a little uneven, but worked fine once we found the right spot. Beautiful views!

Report Check-In

Really nice breakfast included with stay. Wifi is slow. Great views. Stayed 3 nights. Easy walk into Salento. Clean well kept facilities. Camping area a little wet due to daily rain.

Report Check-In

The main entrance to Hacienda has an arch, a little further there is another entrance for taller vehicles. Price for vehicle campers is 15,000 pp including breakfast. Wifi rarely reached camping area and was not fast. Toilets have seats and TP. If you "ask" for power the price shoots up to 26,000!!! (we plugged in after dark just to left of bathroom door and unplugged in the early morning just to charge up). There are jeeps in town to take you to Cocora Valley - 20 minute walk to square - charged 3800COP pp. We found the free breakfast sufficient: 2 eggs, coffee/tea, banana and a roll (we asked for seconds of the latter).

Report Check-In

One of our favorites! 15,000 per person including breakfast: 2 eggs and a banana or a generous fruit bowl, hot roll, coffee or tea. You can add other delicious items for additional cost. Family style dinners offered Monday through Friday for 17,000/person when they have enough people. 2 people in a camper and we were able to plug in. Spotless bathrooms but the hot water is on and off! Depending where you park, the wifi may reach if not you have to be closer to the main building where you can use the kitchen and beautiful common areas. Laundry available for 7000/kg (cheaper options in town). Dorms, private rooms, Glamping, space for tents and Overland rigs. Away from the town of Salento but easy walk. The views are incredible! We came here twice, that is how much we liked it!

Report Check-In

Very nice garden, but overall a bit too expensive. We enjoyed the stay, but the pricing for the breakfast struck us as absurd: the "included" breakfast consists of egg, 1 banana, 1 piece of bread and a super-tiny portion of butter. Although we're not big eaters, all 4 of us left hungry, refusing to pay an additional 3000pp for yoghurt or granola. You can also pimp your egg with veggies or bacon for 6500pp each. At these rates, a filling breakfast costs you an additional 5000-7000, so don't think of it as "included".

Report Check-In

Very nice scenery around the hostel and friendly staff. Hot water didn't work in the camping area so we used the shower in the storage area of the main house. My boyfriend had to pay 20% Iva because he's Colombian. Wifi only worked in the main house. Overall a little too expensive for what you get.

Report Check-In

We highly recommend this place. Very clean, hot showers, wifi, kitchen and breakfast in the morning. We caught a jeep cab in the square and took it the the four hour hike in Cocora Valley.

Report Check-In

Very nice place to stay. We've been there 6 nights and payed 23.000 Pesos per person in a tent, including breakfast. You can choose between eggs and fruit salad, you can also upgrade your breakfast. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms are amazing. You can easily walk in to town in 15 minutes or take a Jeep for 6.000 Pesos per car. We had a great time there and it's worth it to pay a little bit more.

Report Check-In

A beautiful finca style hostel with breathtakeing views. private rooms available. dorm rooms and camping. Breakfast is included. price vary from 33cop and up. Worth a visit.

Report Check-In

One of those places where you stay longer than planned. Very well built and maintained site at a great location. Grassy field with great view over the mountains. Fee includes breakfast. COP 52000 (2 adults, camper).

Report Check-In

La Serrana has beautiful views, lovely hot showers, breakfast included and comfortable common areas. Yoga classes twice a day for $10,000 on site. It's also walking distance to town. $20,000 per person.

Report Check-In

Level parking area for up to four small vehicles, probably 3 big rigs. Still costs 26.000cop per person with breakfast included. Wifi is good, but can be weather dependent. Hot showers but small water tank. If the hot water doesn't come through at first, wait 15 minutes. Outlets near parking area, but you may need up to 5m extension cord, depending on your exact parking spot.

Beautiful view, friendly staff and good indoor space.

Report Check-In

26k per person. Nice property, friendly staff and breakfast included. Pancakes, granola, smoothies, fruit bowl, etc available for purchase. Waking up to a beautiful view of the surrounding valleys was worth the extra couple bucks for a night or two. Easy 15 minute walk to/from town. Wifi at reception and common area. Yoga available for 10k....looked like a really good class.

Report Check-In

Nice campground besides a hostel. 110v electricity, WIFI at the reception, good & hot showers. No problem also for big rigs. Pay attention to the roof corner of the main building while entering!

Report Check-In

Still only 26000 pp pn inc breakfast & electricity. Great chocolate cake too. Can get take away delivered. Can pay by card if it's working which is most of the time. Laundry 7000 p kilo. They even have yoga classes for 10000 and there's a free salsa class in Salento on a Weds. Watch out for protruding roof on corner of main building on entry/exit if in high/wide vehicle using alternative entrance. Absolutely wonderful

Report Check-In

New nice camping area for up to 4 trucks, entrance without hight restrictions and new sanitary block with hot showers and power for camper. Very nice and worth the price.

Report Check-In

I spend 5 days, its one of the best place and very save.

Report Check-In

Superb place! Of course it is all a matter of perspective, but honestly we don't understand how this can be called a parking lot behind a hostel. It is a small campground next to the hostel on grass with an amazing view of the beautiful valley and the nicest bathrooms we have seen on our whole trip. And that's only for the camping part. The hostel itself is awesome as well. It has several cozy living areas and a big kitchen, all very well maintained and lovingly furnished with a lot of attention to detail. Breakfast is served in their nice restaurant and, you can choose between 2 options and for a dollar or two you can complete it with several other extras. Of course the price might sound high at first, but we think for what you get here it's fair.

Report Check-In

Spot with great views. Also the best toilet/shower facilities we have had at a campsite in S. America! A tad expensive at 26k pppn but we stayed 4 nights in the end.

Report Check-In

Sorry no thanks, for us it looked like a parking lot behind the hostal as well. Probabely they got a lot of good overlander recommendations and had nothing elso to do than increasing the prices. Toilets looked good, but around the rather small parking lot we found only some shabby plastic chairs, rotting tables, absolutely no place we wanted to spread out. The view is good, but we turned on our heels and stayed at camping Tataquies for 12000.-

Report Check-In

Typical hostel. Full of mostly young backpackers. Very pricey: 26000 p.P including basic breakfast. The Camparea in front if the sanitary block has nice view in the surroundings. Very strong winds in the morning and evening!. A smell of "weed" around us....! They had have Waterproblems , so the real nice showers and toilets were mostly unusable.....and a "Waterplan"....so not possible to use it when you want to. Perhaps only when we were there....
The wifi doesn't reach the Camp Area. And even at the reception....every minute down.......!
At least very pricey.....with all the problems!
Electricity outlets at the sanitary Block.

Report Check-In

Awesome place and definitely NOT 'just a parking lot behind a hostel'. Amazing views, friendly staff, great showers (with awesome views aswell), decent wifi, campfires, cheap good food (lots of veg come from their own garden) and beer and most of all wonderful people. Yes 26.000 COP per person per night is relatively expensive but it includes a great breakfast, which we missed half the time as we look to make our own food, but it's there if you want it. It is a hostel so part of the backpacker trail but this can be refreshing some time, meeting other and often younger people. Very quiet at night and an easy stroll into lovely Salento. Excellent base to visit Valle del Cocora or if you want to a multi day hike into Los Nevados national park. Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

We loved it here and stayed for 5 days. We paid 26,000 per person per night and we felt happy with this. The views from where we parked and camped were superb. We had a good basic breakfast each morning. The showers were clean and sometimes hot-if they went cold we could ask for the gas to be changed. Wifi works inside the main house, which was lovely to sit in and talk to backpackers. The walk to town is about 20 mins or you can catch a willie`s jeep. There are about 3 or 4 coffee plantations within walking distance, we went to Don Elias, the furthest one and really enjoyed it.The staff were really helpful and advised on local tours.

Report Check-In

Too expensive for a parking lot behind the hostel. 26.000 COP pP not negotiable.

Report Check-In

Way to expensive for what it is... 26000 COP/Per person/night. Went somewhere else.

Report Check-In

Great hostal, very organized. Camping spot is beautiful overlooking a massive valley. New bathrooms are the best I've had since the US the rainfall copper shower heads are worth the 22,000 for me. Good wifi nice restaurant, beers and campfires every night at 8:30. Really couldn't ask for a better spot. Don't miss this one.

Report Check-In

Hostel with small campground, new and clean bathrooms, breakfast included, 10 min walk to town, great view, dinner for 15'000 COP.

Report Check-In

Great place. Very organised, superb views, nice kitchen, breakfast included in price of 20000 pp, restaurant not working in WE, otherwise set menu, clean hot showers, they do laundry. Only inconvenience is that it s 20 min walk to town.

Report Check-In

They want to charge 22.000 per person, we said that everybody paid 20.000... Nice place, ok for big rigs too. The road from the city to get here is under construction, can be little bit challenging... But we did it. Clean showers. Laundry 8.000 per kilo

Report Check-In

Great view over the valley and if it's not cloudy you can even see a snow capped Mountain. The area to park/camp is nice and most spots are leveled. Now the things we did not like too much: REALLY crowded by backpackers, the shower did not work which is annoying if you are under the shower and the pressure disappears and then when it got fixed after 10 minutes it's freezing cold. In the evenings the Internet was not working and during the Day it didn't cover the Camping area. Breakfast is good and amenities are clean. 20,000 pp...better Deals if you stay longer

Same as below, great spot. We paid $17,000 per person including breakfast. The new bathrooms are finished and are very nice, with copper sinks and hot showers. There was room for us, two motorcyclists and a MAN truck as well as various tent campers.

Report Check-In

just a perfect place to stay. good for midsize campervans an motorhomes. very good internet. good breakfast incl. 18000 p/p pn. Come as early as possible so that you get a place, they are often booked out and there is not very much space for RV's.

Report Check-In

YES..... Yes ... this place should not be missed. incredible location, great view, not for RV,s longer than max. 25 ft. Suitable. very good place to rest. :-))

Report Check-In

17,000 per person per night includes breakfast of eggs, coffee, fruit, and toast. Email ahead or call as they get full. Good for motorcycle camping with motos next to tent. They are building a bathhouse with three toilets and three showers next to camping area. Should be done within a month. This will be a plus as otherwise all campers using one toilet/shower at reception. Other things as described. We'll run establishment and we enjoyed our stay.

Report Check-In

Good camping area. Tent and cars only. It also works as a hostel with rooms and tents. Good wifi, hot showers and breakfast included. 20.000 COL p/p

Favorite place to camp in 2 months in Colombia. We clarified with the owner - they WELCOME camping. (A previous manager did not). Great place to spend Christmas, with nice Christmas dinner on the 25th. Dinner available Monday - Friday for 13,000 pesos.

Report Check-In

All comments still apply with a couple of changes: Speedy wify and they were very open to camping. Height issues with the main gate can be avoided by using the second driveway 30 feet further along the road. Photo shows driveway down the road (see the white car)

Report Check-In

Awesome. Amazing view, good parking and camping area, great hostel with hot showers, clean bathrooms, great breakfast included and delicious affordable dinners. Slow internet due to so many people at the hostel using it. We had no trouble with just rolling up and asking to camp without making a reservation. The hostel was very busy, but the camping was open and they were very friendly to us and our dog. We paid $15k COP pp/night, breakfast included.

Report Check-In

There are a bit picky about how many car campers can be here at the same time. Two were here (one motorcycle one small van ) when we showed up and they said no to us but we sweet talked them into letting us camp here. Beautiful views and a great place to relax. Not sure they are really on board with campers to be honest. We heard of campers being turned away. It is hit or miss. Great place, just not very overlander friendly.

Report Check-In

According to the owner they only take one camper and one tent (in total!) right now due to construction work. July 2014

A beautiful location about 10 minutes walk from Salento. All the facilities one could hope for. Excellent private rooms and dorms are also available. Breakfast of eggs and toast is included, more options are available for a small fee. A set dinner is served at the restaurant each night. One of the best spots so far.

Very nice hostel with a wonderful view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Camping on the grass next to the front desk. You have to pass the main gate (only 2.60 m hight), and go for about fifty meters to reach the sites. Shared kitchen, living room, barbecue, free WIFI. 1 km walk (do not walk in the dark - raids) to the city.
