Site overlooks Ridgecrest city, so at night you get to see the whole city. Road up the hill isn't 4x4 required, but possibly high clearance would be good. Go past the college and stay on the main road(quite a few side paths out here) and follow it up the hill, turn to the right and you'll come to an area that has a fire pit. Weekends might get company but on weekdays, we haven't had any visitors. **WATCH OUT it’s full of broken glass on the ground; dirty and lots of garbage.

Nice spot for the view; but disgusting surroundings… so many pieces of broken glass EVERYWHERE! Hard to find at night, we were looking for a spot to sleep around 8pm… and came in from the opposite side, hard to find, discouraged when we saw the mess. Nobody disturbed us; we were kind of stressed about college kids showing up at anytime.
Do not really recommend if you are coming in late.
BLM at Trona was packed with OHV, so we kept driving and arrived around 9pm. easy to find a nice flat area. This is Spangler Hills area, so there is a ton of places you can camp. Be careful, a lot of broken glass, as it is also an OHV area. we heard a few ohv driving around last night, but overall it was a nice quiet spot. sand roads are sturdy, not too soft so non 4x4 will be fine.
Report Check-InStayed here for two nights, nice views of the city, a little bumpy to get to but could get here in a camper van. There's glass everywhere around. Second night on Monday, we were woken up 4 times from 1am to 4am by what seemed like drunk college students deliberately driving up right next to us in a truck (license plate 92631E3) and revving their engines. We tried to talk to them but they drove off.
Report Check-InGood place for a night, maybe two. Strong LTE signal on both Verizon and ATT. Place is heavily visited by locals and college students. I have never seen so much broken glass in my life. Windy. No shade. Nice views. Plenty of hills to walk.
Report Check-Ingood spot to stop for the night. flat concrete pad not covered in glass a 100 ft west of the marked position. no shelter from elements, could get very windy. watch for screws / bolts sticking out of the concrete pads.
Report Check-InPerfect little spot to pull off with a great view! It is WINDY but didn’t bother me once settled in my car. Like someone mentioned before, there is a good amount of glass (and also some trash and graffiti). Has paved out spots so you’re able to park flat. A few cars came and went (I assume to watch the sunset). By the time I went to sleep there was only one other car up there that I could see. Overall felt safe and loved the view.
Report Check-InGreat spot, fabulous views very quiet at night, nice local people during the day but beware of all the glass there is smashed bottles and lots of nails on the ground
Report Check-InPerfect place and very quiet all night ! The hills were full of flowers, really beautiful views with the sunset !
Report Check-InWe didn't go all the way up to the spot mentioned because we arrived at night at couldn't tell how soft the sand was on the road. There are numerous spots to pull off on the way up.
Good cell service (verizon), quiet spot. Its windy... but nothing unbearable.
