Description

Find place to park in Akumal is somewhat complicated, too many private parking and few places in the street. For those wanting to go see the turtles should note that the stay for the car costs $ 50 mex, or you can go to the village and park where you can (so hard to find a spot). At night private parking closed and all tourism goes, being practically deserted, we ask permission to spend the night in front of one of these and had no problem parking, it was quiet from 10pm to 7 am and bathrooms were open untip 9pm, costs $5 pesos.

Latest Check-Ins

Come early (before 9am) and follow the signs for ‘Lol Ha’ restaurant. Say you want to eat breakfast there. No parking or beach entrance fee. Snorkel on the right side, after red flag (but within buoys) in front of the hotel, we saw a lot of people swimming without life jackets. Unfortunately only after we rented them in the dive shop (100 pesos per jacket). Saw a lot of turtles here and a huge baracuda. Worth it!

Now if you want to see and swim with tortugas it’s 100/200 pesos until 5 pm to park. 100 pp the entry to the beach and 350 obligatory pp ( guide safety jacket) and you have to follow a see road.
Absolutely not recommended any more !!!!!!!!

we arrived late maybe 6 pm and a boy ask us for 50 p to park here... we payed him
at the morning someone come to ask us 100 p more he said the boy doesnt work here !! as we try to talk he finally ask us 300 p !!!
so be carrefull with the price...
anyway it is a good place to stay nice and safe ... really close to the beach (crowed... but beautifull)
the guides at the entrace said guide is an obligation ... its not true
you can go in the area by yourself
for the lifejacket we met people without and no problem for them
we prefered took one (100 p for 1 for adult 50 p for children) because it was more confortable to stay a long time in the water
we saw turtles raya big barracudas and a lot of fishes
was really nice even if it was an expensive parking experience for us

Report Check-In

We found a good place to leave our rig towards the laguna while snorkeling. We did not wear any lifevests nor paid for a guide. You can still go on your own, especially in the North and South areas of the beach, but if you want to spot more turtles, you should snorkel between the buoys, where the crowd stays and lifevests are mandatory.

We just wasted 50p. We went to snorkel with the turtles. As of February new laws say you have to have a life vest which you must pay to rent, if you want to leave the small buoy area you must also have a guide you must pay for. No fins allowed either. We don't feel a need to pay to snorkel. Pay to park is fine. Unfortunately we did not learn about the new laws tell we arrived at beach and parking guy did not want to refund us. Hope this review saves you the trouble.
