Description

This is a beautiful Rancho that's still in construction. They let us camp for 7.- per night, per vehicle *(person). It's basically just a small, flat area where you can park your vehicle. You may be able to camp further down the road as well and set up a tent there. The lookout is really great and just 50m away. Can get windy up here but the temp is much better to sleep than at the beach. Basic bathroom with toilet. Picnic tables and a small shop available. And of course a great view over the bay.
The road is no problem in a 2WD. Maybe a bit of clearance is nice to have.

came up in our extended 2wd sprinter. The road is bumpy but totally fine without 4wd. Higher clearance is necessary! Still $7pp for the night plus $5 per vehicle to enter the park. Make sure you enter the park for the North. Google thinks that it is possible to enter for the west but there are locked gates between you and the Mirador that way.

Camped here for 1 night after doing the double border crossing from Nicaragua to El Salvador, made it up the mountain just before dark. $5 per vehicle to drive up to the top, $7pp to camp. Road is rough and steep but we never felt like it was particularly dangerous, just went slow, road was dry both going up and down. We have a newer vehicle though so we weren’t too worried about our engine overheating, 4x4 2022 Toyota Tacoma with GoFast Camper. We followed Google maps to get up. Gorgeous views at the top. We used our backpacking tent so we can be right there for sunrise, but you can just as easily camp in your vehicle and walk over for sunrise/sunset. It rained hard and everything got wet. There’s a restaurant but it didn’t seem open, but we didn’t ask about it. Flush toilets, no showers, snack bar. Would recommend as a stopover before or after crossing the Honduras border since it is so close.

Got our AWD Ford Transit (High Roof) up here. Definitely the sketchiest road we’ve taken our van on yet, and I love offroading and taking the roads everyone says to ‘avoid’.

This one is bumpy with loads of steep off camber turns, but it’s 100% doable. Just go slow and maybe think twice in rain if, especially if you don’t have AWD or 4x4. We only bottomed out on something once. Loud bang, but no major damage (hopefully, lol).

Start in La Union and follow the signs. Busses go up the road until the private gated section, so don’t be too worried.

$5 to get the van through the gates. $7/pp up top to camp. Owner is super nice. The views are outrageous.

Claro had service. Tigo didn’t work. Level enough in the pine trees. Perfect weather. We spent two nights up there recharging before heading to Honduras. Some areas to walk around in, but no real hiking trails.

Great spot to hangout and just enjoy mild temperatures. FYI, the road to get up here is super rough (although, we were fine with our 2WD) and one will only be able to camp with a view only if you are sleeping in a tent. If you are a van camper, you will have to camp out in the pine forest near by.

Nice place, cold and prepared for a confort camping, great views, clean toilets and water (not drinkable) the road is hard, some parts very step and rocky

Great spot with beautiful view, we were told to camp in between the pine trees which was grand. we paid 7usd P.P. / night. the temperature was lovely, a nice break from the hot mornings at the beach. This is a no burn zone, so no fires permitted. Road was steep and bumpy, but we managed in our transit. there were a couple of cross ruts where we were required to use our levelling blocks, but that's only because we have a low hanging step on the passenger side, other than its was manageable. If you have a front wheel drive with a very heavy ass, you may struggle a bit, as it can be fairly slippery even when dry. I don't recommend driving up here with a 2-wheel drive if it's raining.

Nice enough to camp overnight for the sunrise. Stayed between the pine trees, and it was super quiet and peaceful! Road up is a bit of an adventure 😁

7 USD per person per night, which is a little bit too much, but I guess is worth it anyway seen the beauty of the view from the miradores! toilette with tp 24/7, little bar and restaurant for breakfast.
the road to get there is very steep and bumpy, made of stone you don't need a 4 wd, we made it with a Chevy van RWD, you need good brakes on the way down more than anything and a lot of patience, definitely high clearance!

Made it up the road in the dry season with a 2006 Sprinter. Quiet, cool, and amazing views. They were tolerant of our dogs, but it required a bit of management to keep their dogs away from ours (one husky and one golden mix weren’t happy about our border collies). Just had to be aware. Worth the drive!

Still possible to camp here, super nice spot in the forest, or take your tent and camp with all the others At the viewing platform. Toilets available. $7us a night. I would say it’s better to have a 4x4 . Nice and cool at night and worth getting up for sunrise views over the estuary, islands and mountains of El Salvador,Honduras and Nicaragua

This is the parking spot at the Mirador Espiritu de la Montaña.
Cost is 5 per car paid at a gate a few Km down, and another 5 pp over here for the mirador. If you want to camp you can pay another 2pp. Beautiful place! You need a strong engine to come up here... 4wd recommended.
Only access is via Amapalita. The other side of the mountain is closed with a gate.
Camped at the place where they take you to see the sunset. Nicer than at the parking here, and you’ll be alone there.

We were pleasantly welcomed my Luis. Part of our group took a ride and a tent and we drove our over weight Jeep JK.

They have a local dog on site, he is a sweet male husky. There were no issues with our female dog.

The place itself is absolute amazing, the night was about 15°C in July.

The facility is coming along and is already busy, the restaurant is expected up be open early 2020.

One of the best places we checked out in El Salvador.

Was up was slow going and we entered a gate without a fee. On the way down a woman tried charging us to use her gate but more vehicles showed up and she let us pass.
