As discribe. Its easy. The Belize tourisme man is friendly and helpful. We don't have any Problem.

Report Check-In

Just a note: I thought the guy inside with the "Belize Tourism" shirt and the guy outside with the fanny pack were your typical border fixers. But both are legit employees. The tourism guy is just there to help with forms and the guy outside is the one you pay processing fee to.

Sorry I was rude to you guys!

Report Check-In

Since 21.of april 23 they ask for drones as they are prohibited in Belize. I got my one confiscated and could pick it up at the border to guatemala (as i am a terrible liar and didn't know about the law) . Just say you don't have one, they don't really search for it. And safe yourself the struggles.

Report Check-In

For dog/cats owners: You still need an import permit. Organize a few days before entry a health certificate from a vet, send this with the filled form from BAHA and other documents to [email protected]. Wait until you get the officialy permit. More details on baha.org.bz. We paid totally 70 BZD (20 and 50).

mostly smooth, but we didn't do the fumigation process and were asked to turn around and get it. also they all accepted MX$. we tried hard to exchange money before but didn't manage. if only we had known... we were told there's an atm with blz$ in the free zone, but couldn't find it.
we ended up paying 12b$ for fumigation, 30b$ for "parking/entering", and 60b$ for the insurance.
i didn't need any copies of documents.

Easy and welcome. Nice to enter in Belize.

immigration was pretty quick but took forever to get the documentation for TIP even though I was only one on line.

IF you are travelling with pet have a health certificate ready . and email [email protected] for a pet permit application form.
send it back to them with the health certificate 3-5business days prior to entering and they will issue you the Pet permit and you need to pay BZ50 while entering
we missed sending the completed form to baha for the permit and was forced to pay a penalty for 300BZ$ @.@

Steps:
1. park on right and go into building
2. Fill out visa forms at desk right inside door on right.
3. Proceed to first window to turn in forms and get passports stamped.
4. Proceed to motor vehicle window to receive TIP, a stamp in driver’s passport.
5. Return outside to pay $30 BZD, which is the “foreign vehicle entry processing fee.”
6. Drive through inspection.
7. Go get insurance (building marked on iOverlander).

We were asked if we had fresh fruit. We were also asked where we were spending the night, including address. Gold standard reservation is not required anymore.

If you’re like to see all this on video, you can do so here: https://youtu.be/s3rfSs-r4tM. Our info is current as of 3/24/22.

Just a quick update that they no longer require a Covid test if you’re fully vaccinated and have your vaccine card. Saved us a ton of $$!

Report Check-In

Five things to do here: 1. rapid Covid Antigen (Ag) test (BZD 100 or USD 50 per person(!)), 2. immigration (no cost, must show negative test and proof of vaccination - printed digital EU certificate is OK, and you will be asked for hotel reservation and travel plans), 3. temporary import permit (no cost but slow), 4. road use tax for foreign vehicles (BZD 30) and lastly 5. have your car inspected (no cost).

Tip: should you have brought organic material by accident: there's a large garbage bin in front of the building. If found during inspections, you will have to do extra paperwork (sign a waiver).

They let us in without hotel reservations, because we are campers (and probably because we told them we'd spend a month).

Report Check-In

We made it into Belize with our van & our cay, but it took about 3 hours and they did not accept my Johnson & Johnson vaccination.

Right now (check yourself, it changes weekly) it is possible to enter with you own vehicle as long as you book at least 3 nights at a gold standard accomodation (Casa Rickys Is one for example). The Mexican side doesn't know about it yet and threatened to only give us 7 days if we come back because we couldn't enter Belize. Until Monday, 9th of August 2021 it is possible to enter without a Covid test, if your vaccinated. HOWEVER: At least for us they only accepted 2 dosis vaccinations (no Johnson & Johnson, so I was forced to take a 100BZ$ / 50USD Covid test at the border...

From Monday on, everyone needs to take a test at the border (tests from Mexico are NOT accepted), so it won't matter if your vaccinated or not.

Except for the chaos regarding covid tests, everyone was friendly, but it still took 3 hours to get the papers for our car, do the customs check (was very little, he only checked our fridge for vegetables) and get the documents for our cat (you need to get permission in advance and bring a health certificate).

The fumigation station seems to be under construction and nobody asked for it, but we paid for it anyway (without being fumigated), but the 100 pesos more were peanuts compared to the forced test.

Important: Most stations at the border will not accept pesos, only BZD or USD and the card machine only worked at the car permit station. The Belizean insurance accepted pesos though.

New COVID procedure:
We passed through from Mexico to Belize on July 9. No problems. Additional steps:
At fumigation we also showed our passports, a 3 night reservation that we booked at a Gold Standard hotel, showed vaccination record for Covid (or get an antigen test before crossing, or get a test at the border), and filled out some general information paperwork about entering Belize as well as new health information. Pay for Covid test here if you did not already get one.

At immigration: stop at the Health tent for a covid test, takes 10 minutes. got our passports stamped at immigration. Went to customs where we provided our car documentation, the officer did a quick inspection of the vehicle to see what we were bringing into the country. We also imported our dog (pet import must be started well before trying to cross as you need paperwork pre-approved from Belize government agriculture.)

Paid
$11 BZ for fumigation
$30 BZ for car import
$50 BZ for dog import permit
$10 BZ for dog quarantine inspection fee
$100 BZ for covid test

Here is the extract I found online (and didn’t really want to believe so went to check for ourselves)

Report Check-In

Land borders open for tourism... just not overlanders!!!
Yesterday Belize opened its border for tourism and today we made an attempt to cross with a plan to spend a week or 10 days in Belize and carry on to Guatemala. Long story short we couldn’t!
The long story is that in addition to a negative Covid test, confirmation of a booking at a “gold standard” hotel, tourist can only travel in Belize using “gold standard” transport... as since you can not drive you own vehicle in Belize at the moment!!!
Completely ridiculous but here we are... making the long 500 kms detour to Guatemala to try our luck there.

Report Check-In

Easy enough, many people there to guide you through the process.
Some friendlier than others.
They never inspected our vehicle only checked that our number plate was correct.
30BZD, paid on card.
Take your own pen to fill in your tourist card (they had none when we went)

Report Check-In

Fairly straightforward as previously described by others entering Belize. The only thing I would mention is the customs guy who did our vehicle import permit wanted to hear concrete plans, campsites/hotels and a contact number. There didn't seem to be a standard length of time for the permit, the guy made it clear that he was making the decision on how long to give us. It worked out fine, but make sure to be nice and be prepared.

Report Check-In

Went through today. Exactly as described by Bluevango recently. The guy that we paid the $30bzd seemed a bit disappointed we did not tip him. Get your insurance as you leave...they point it out to you. Quick and easy and you can pay with a card.
The whole border, from the time we pulled in on the Mex side till we left with our insurance ( and we were stuck behind a tour bus), took just 1 hour and 5 mins.

Report Check-In

Crossing with 2 dogs: The BAHA guy charged us $40 USD in total for both dogs. He inspected them, checked the health and rabies certificate and it was very smooth. We ended up paying 350 mexican pesos to exit Mexico. It's suppose to be 30 BZD but we gave him mexican pesos and ended up giving him an extra 50 (should of been 300 mxp) so be careful when doing the math with these guys. Also, another guy came asking for a "tip" since he was the one who had taken us inside, etc. Gave him a dollar. Our RV wasn't inspected. We paid for our car insurance right after crossing (600 mxp) We made no lines, it's just a bit confusing when they start adding fees.

Report Check-In

The immigration officers were super nice here, they filled up all the forms for us and showed us where to get insurance. No declaration required or anything.

Exiting Belize, additional notes:
The left queue is for the Belize people who just want to enter the duty free/toll free zone!
Take another queue for immigration.

After immigration you have to go through the wooden double doors to get to the customs. Above the doors there’s a sign ‘authorized personnel only’, but it’s the correct door!

Belize to Mexico:
park the car and enter the building. it costs 32.5bzd per person for border processing fee to get stamped out. cross the hall to cancel the tip. drive through the gates, take left at first roundabout, right at next roundabout, cross the bridge into Mexico and then park at Mexican immigration on your right. fill out form they give you (top and bottom parts) then go through immigration line, then to get your tip at office opposite the immigration line in same building (51usd plus 8.16usd tax for tip, 558 pesos tourist tax, and 200usd refundable deposit for bringing in car older than 2000 [300usd for cars 2001-2006, 400usd for cars 2007 or newer]),then to insurance next door which closes at 8pm. all was fine and friendly but lady at tip office was pretty difficult, said we couldn't pay deposit in pesos so we paid on credit card but then charged our credit card in pesos with a conversion fee. anyway, once done at the building, drive onwards and pay for fumigation (they accept bzd, mxp or USD) and then have car inspected by police who checked our van briefly. the line for immigration was long so the whole process took us over 2 hours.

Report Check-In

Everyone were friendly and helpful. No lines at Friday 12:00 when I crossed (with motorcycle)
They wanted 50 Belize dollars. I asked about in pesos and they said 150, I paid 150 MXN and went on my merry way. Except for that guy trying to get 50 bucks from me, everyone were very friendly. (He was also friendly, other than trying to get 50 Belize dollars)

Report Check-In

everything as described. English speaking staff and very friendly and helpful. we crossed on a Saturday 11 am and nobody was there, also on Mexican side before, so all went relatively quick. we unfortunately also paid this "border processing fee" of 30 BZ dollars, which only foreigners pay. I also read people discussing about it being some scam but there is an official looking sign in Spanish outside the immigration and in the Facebook Panamericanan trav. group I also read that its not 100 percent clear if they rip you off or if its legitimate. so I payed and got a receipt. looked 74% official to me.

Note: there is a great place to exchange pesos to BZ dollars behind the immigration building. its meant for the people travelling to Mexico, so we parked our car at the Belize insurance building and then went the 200 meters back by foot. its not the road you came from, but the one in the other direction to Mexico, separated by a fence. there were a couple of people hanging around at something that looks like a bus stop, but says "money exchange". It all looks a bit shady but it isnt, I exchanged my pesos for a ratio which got me a win of 10 percent, very nice.

Report Check-In

Really easy and smooth. Speak English. But be careful of the immigration guys, they will rip you off, dont pay the guys outside walking around only pay the guys inside. We got hustled and then a man inside told us to try to get our money back and when we did he said “oh it’s for the kids!” Wouldnt give us our money. He asked for 250pesos at first then 350 and we only had 300 and he put it in his wallet.
We have dogs and read that they needed a form to be filled out by BAHA ahead of time which we did and sent in and they said they didn’t receive it but let us through anyway paying the normal price. Much more smooth then Mexico.

Report Check-In

At customs / car registration , I made the mistake to ask for the procedure to stay longer than the max 30 days .
Officer thought that we wanted to take in our RV illegally and sent us to the white building for Car Import . He thought that we had land in Belize .After a lot of discussions finally Mr Flowers helped us to get the Temporary Import Permit for free . Our advice ...just ask for Entry for 30 days and no other questions there . In Belmopan or other cities you can easily get extension for longer stay .

Report Check-In

Just park a car where indicated and go from desk to desk with your documents. There might be a porter to guide you for a tip. Everybody was quite nice, except the car registration lady which we couldn't hear through the glass, bring a pen she had only one and didn't seem happy about sharing. We had nothing to declare, we told the car registration lady we had pasta and canned food. Nobody checked, she said they might... Insurance was also straight forward, $29 for one week, $46 for two, $60 for a month. If you are not sure where to go or park just keep asking people around.
