Camping right on the beach. Miguel’s place is located at the south end of Mahahual. He has place to camp on the beach for max. two small camper vans, 4x4 recommended. He also rent tents, Hamacas and cabanas.
Camping in your van or Hamaca 70,- pesos p.P.
Camping in your own tent 70,-
He rents tents, inkl, sleeping bag, mattress, 100,- pesos
Cabanas between 500,- and 700,-
It’s a simple place with solar power, bucket shower (rainwater) and open fire kitchen. Miguel loves to cook for you and he does a great job. We had the best ceviche de camarones ever! We really loved this relaxed place and Miguel is a lovely host!

Such a beautiful place right on the beach. Was very quiet in the evening and we left the windows open all night. The owners are very friendly. A great place to relax and look at the place.
Report Check-InNot a lot of room for overland vehicles to park, but Miguel moved some things around and we scored a spot between two palm trees just yards from the water. We had tent campers all around us, but everyone was friendly and quiet. Strong breeze which kept any bugs away. Note there is a LOT of sargasso (seaweed) this time of year, which clogs up the water and beaches. The bathroom and cold shower are across the street. This campground is within walking distance to town. We paid 100 pesos/person/night.
Report Check-InThe Camping place directly at the beach is just perfect but the toilet and shower smell like hell. The toilet doesn't work the most of time.
Report Check-InSuper spot as described below. We had no sargasso. Perfect Beach for snorkeling. You can easily swim out where the tour boats are and snorkel. We saw turtles, manta and lots of fish. Quiet and safe. Would come here again.
Report Check-Innice place directly at the beach. small space underneath coconut trees. might be too small for big rigs. the owner is very nice and helpful. if you stay there, you have to try his food. we had a very delicious fish. walking distance to maelcon of mahahual is about 5 minutes. check the sargazo before heading there. the place rents kayaks and you can also go snorkeling. we paid 200mxn per night no electricity but bathroom with cold shower.
Report Check-InIdyllic camping spots right on the beach, with shade, tables and deck chairs. The sargasso was pretty bad throughout Mahahual, but here the smell was ok. We weren't too sure about camping so clearly visible from the road at first, but it's pretty popular throughout the town and we were later joined by some Mexicans with tents. Restaurant plays music, but it was quiet at night. The very friendly owners made us feel very more than welcome!
Report Check-InI stayed here for nearly 1 1/2 months.
Directly on the beach by the tranquile road.
Mike & Ceci are both people with a beautiful heart, they seem a bit "wild" sometimes and like shouting more than whispering .
A very very safe spot slept with open doors all the time .
They clean up the sargazo so you can swim.
The price depends on how long you stay but it's +/- 100 $ /night.
you can negotiate if you pay for a whole week etc.
You can use the huge kitchen incl fridge/freezer and the bathroom.
Best if you bring your own drinking water or pay towards the water but that's the only thing to pay extra.
They also rent tents or hammocks.
5 min walk to the center.
I d say it's a great place to stay unless you are really looking for something very quiet , this is a restaurant too so there is some music and loud people sometimes but Mike asks to lower the music at night so no parties at night.
Very nice quiet beautiful place Mike great chef very cheap Lobster and most amazing Habanero sauce xoxo, all the facilities
Report Check-InVery nice chef called Mike , quiet place ssfety and everithing well done xo xo
Report Check-Ingood spot on the beach, nice and quiet. good food at a normal price. he rents snorkels and kayaks to go see the fish in the mini reef nearby. bathrooms smell like death but otherwise good.
Report Check-InAmazing place right on the beach owned by amazing people. We spent a night here and then had to spend another one. It was so hard to leave on the the 3rd day :/ Miguel and Cecilia’s positive vibes and energy is contagious. I promised them to come back and stay for a good 3 weeks and I intend on keeping that promise. They have hammocks, chairs and lounge chairs to sleep and get sunkissed. They can cook you a freshly caught fish or lobster. Delicious, and I don’t even like sea food. My Extended Sprinter easily fits under a coconut tree and was leveled. They have a restroom and shower. A few kayaks to rent. It’s a 100 pesos per person per night and so very worth it. In the morning I tried walking to the reefs to snorkel and got bitten twice by a stingray or two, and I fainted. Cecilia and Miguel were very helpful and did everything to make me feel comfortable. Cecilia came with us to the ER to translate. When we got back I was up and running, rented a Kayak and went to the reef. Amazing underwater world they got. We cruised along a turtle for a while. Then headed back for a delicious meal cooked by Miguel. Oh, I didn’t mention we felt so safe that we slept with the back door wide open to the sound of crashing waves and sky full of stars.

Report Check-InHave tried this place which is open, but the smell of the sargasses made it impossible to stay there
Report Check-InProbably the best spot to camp at Mahahual, you are right on the beach and at a few meters from turtles ! There are all here !! Accessible for big RV. We put our 3 RVs on the beach. Note that you are next to the road but it’s not very busy, so very quiet a night and not much traffic during the day. Owners are very friendly and you can even refill your tank if needed.
We had amazing time with great view.
Good place to stay in Mahahual, far from the Cruise ships and near the center. Miguel was really helpful. We wanted to stay on the beach but it was really windy and it "salted" our van. Miguel offerred us to sleep in the garden and to put a tent there too.
Report Check-InVery nice, small campground. 100 MXN/person. Place for one big rig at the beach.
WiFi from Hotel Arenas, slow, ask Miguel for the code.
You can fill your water tank at a tap, ask Miguel.
We had each a 400g fresh crawfish, Miguel grilled them for us, 400 MXN with potato and rice - delicious! The next evening we had ceviche de camarones 300 MXN/500 g - very very good.
Miguel is friendly and helpful!
We wanted to stay 2 nights but stayed 7 nights . Center town on walking distance 10 minutes . Place is connected to 110V now , but not yet on the beach . Owner Miguel is very helpfull and friendly . Told us about some demanding overlanders that make there own rules , so sometimes give him a bad mood . This beach place is open so everyone passing can steel everything around your RV . Miguel did not know about the stolen shoes . Everyone could have done it . We have felt very safe . Fantastic seabreeze and have seen turtles beautifully . Price 100 p now p.p . Cold shower .
Report Check-InGenerally I agree that this place is nice, BUT BEWARE, when I was there the host, Miguel stole my expensive Mountain Shoes as soon as he had the opportunity! Also he is using unknown substances which makes him extremely unstable and his mood depends on the time of day. My friends and me wouldn't return there and if you go, take EXTREME care of your belongings!! There is another camping spot just before Miguel's on the coast which I would definitely recommend more. Travel safe!
Report Check-InSuch a perfect place. if you have room to park on the beach then it really looks like paradise. can use the hammoc, table and lounge chairs for free. there are beautiful snorkeling spots (with turtles) in front of the beach (like 10 min swimming) where tour boats usually go. Miguel asks for 50 pesos to rent a safety buoy for the "tour boats" to see you when you snorkel. I found it a little bit expensive but on the other side you don't need to pay for the boat. see if you want to negotiate or bring your own. as described shower is from rain water bucket but that works very well. toilet ok. kitchen we did not use but seemed to be ok too. this is a very very relaxing place and we had a very good time there. people here are no stress. and plus they just adopted a little kitty : so cute!!! 70 pesos/person / night
Report Check-InGood spot, probably the best in Mahahual and the only one that didn’t stink of sewage, so that’s great. We stayed 4 nights.
We went diving with Dr. Dive where his son works and had two good dives. However we think there might be better options in town, for example they want you to pay in US Dollars and if you don’t have that, they will charge you 20 Pesos for 1 Dollar. After a bit of discussion they went down to 19P per 1$.
Miguel also rents snorkeling equipment for 100$ but it’s not worth the money.
The town itself is nice when there are no cruises ships. It’s pretty full when 3 ships are docked and they are expanding the port to accommodate 5. o_O
I guess Xcalak will be the nicer spot in the future :)
