Something not right?

Description

Anybody with foreign license plates is NOT permitted to drive into Mexico City from 5 am to 11 am on weekdays and not at all on Saturdays. This measure takes place in an effort to control pollution.
As soon as you enter Mexico City on a freeway there area many police controls on motorbikes. They will stop you and the fine is 2400 pesos.
Unfortunately we read this too late on the internet , which confirms the regulations.

Latest Check-Ins

I found another super informative article with all the information about it (in my opinion much better explained than on the government website)

https://www.mexperience.com/mexicos-hoy-no-circula-vehicle-driving-restrictions/

And even a calendar where you can indicate your plate and it tells you when you are allowed and not allowed to drive:

https://hoynocircula.cdmx.gob.mx/

I added some screenshots from the text but its really worth reading the whole article.

We weren't stopped anywhere but had a tourist pass. The application process is a bit interesting. In case your Spanish isn't so good, this site explains the process in english https://nomad-ish.com/pase-turistico-in-ciudad-de-mexico-cdmx/

Just to clarify the Pase Turístico, if you get one of these (it’s easy and free for cars from model year 2003 and newer), you can drive on any day of the week for the period that you sign up for. The tourist pass alleviates any concerns entirely, so get one and focus on the traffic – it’s hectic enough without worrying about the restrictions!

In addition the last digit of the license plate is important. It is prohibited to drive on one of the five days from Monday through Friday according to the following scheme (see also photo).

5-6 Monday
7-8 Tuesday
3-4 Wednesday
1-2 Thursday
0-9 Friday

Note: you can apply for a tourist pass before your visit! http://www.paseturistico.df.gob.mx/pasetur/
