Description

Unforgettable view!

A lovely campsite on the top of the hill right next to Nyungwe National Park. They have very basic huts for rent for 30$ pppn or 60$ for two people. Camping costs 15$ for tent space/vehicle (or 12000 franks). They can heat up the water for the shower and there are flush toilets as well as long drop ones. Not very clean… There’s also a kitchen guests can use. The dinner was 5000 franks pp with soup, main, tea and fruits for dessert. They also sell cold beer. They can switch on the WiFi if you ask nicely :)
In the evening they made a fire for us.
You can rent a bicycle for 20$ (3-5 hours) or go on an ecotour for 25$ with them.
The road to the campsite is a bit steep, but cars do go up. Motorcycles went up fine. Maybe it can get slippery after a heavy rain though... IMPORTANT it’s not really suitable for cars with a roof top tent. You will have to camp in the parking lot.

Friendly little place with lovely views over the hills. Very steep tarred access road. They have a selection of accommodation available with a variety of prices from $10 Camping pp 20$ basic room $40 ensuite cottage. Nice restaurant. Hot water if asked in a bucket. Wifi not bad

Short: Don't go here unless you don't care about your money.

This place charges $60,- and gives absolutely nothing back other than a manager in a suit. It's called an 'ecolodge' but nothing is eco. No water is coming out of the taps. There is supposed to be hot water by solar. But there are no solar panels or solar boilers or whatsoever.

Please just don't go here.

Problem: there is no other option in the area. Better plan ahead and make sure you don't need to stay in this area.

For camping with a tent this is a really nice place. For camping with a rooftoptent it’s not great… have to stand on the parking lot next to the community center. Which is quite busy. Lots of people looking to see what we are doing.
No running water and a lot of construction going on.
Don’t know if you can do activities here… didn’t look like it.
And now it’s 15 dollar per person! Very expensive…

Nice place. We confirm what is said earlier. We paid RZF 20.000 for 2 people and a car.

The place is situated on a hill with views all round. Stunning views from both campsite and restaurant. 10$ per tent. Really good dinner for 5000rwf per person. We didn't do any activities here, just relaxed and took in the views of the forest and tea plantations, although many activities available. You can ask for hot water for a bucket shower. We would recommend this place.

What a nice place to stay for a couple of days and a rare find with a backpackers setup to talk to others around a fire or a meal. For 10USD for the car on a flat surface it is a great deal and there is plenty to do for activities when you get tired of staring in the distance. Recommended! Not too quiet with lots of locals passing through and visiting but it’s part of the experience.

Amazing view over tea plantations and the forest! Camping was 9000 francs for one tent with two people. We drove a 2wd with no problems, but would be difficult if it was very wet. Staff were helpful. National park office across the road to book treks, was very difficult with no French.

Beautiful location overlooking the national park. We passed a quiet night in our RTT. The only place for RTTs is in the parking area but you can enjoy all that the campground has to offer. We paid 14,000rwf for two people which included a delicious breakfast: good coffee, tea, fresh breads (made there), jam, fruits and an omelet. Nice staff. Good place to meet other travellers.

Campsite was fine. No hot shower, toilets not too clean. Staff is friendly. We did get to use the kitchen, but it was a bit awkward as the staff were also busy there preparing for guests and space was very limited. The only dry place to sit and eat our dinner turned out to be the resto/bar (it was pissing down with rain), staff was not too happy having us there. All in all fine for a night, but not worth the 15 USD per tent/night.

Good Place to stay. Friendly staff. toilets more or less clean. Price for Camping 12000RWF. They also hire tents.
No wifi on Site but in restaurant (weak) and reception (strong). Place to stay for cars its muddy especiallly after rain. Road very steep. I used low gear.

Offered walks are worth the money.
