it starts with small potholes that get fricking huge later. cars are driving everywhere. Hahaha. it is intense but definitely duable if you drive slow. we and a bunch of other cars drove outside the road for some parts. we drove from 8 am. so not that many cars. there was as well as a police checkpoint that let us pass when they heard our English. it is possible to drive here and there are gas stations you can fuel and sleep at.

Definitely not worth it to take the detour as suggested (+ 300km)! Just 70-80km of bad road, you might lose an hour or two

A very, very bad road indeed. If possible take the alternative road RN 81 further north which is in a much better condition. The landscape right and left looks the same (we did both roads)

Bad Potholes start here towards Jujuy for about 100km!
