Description

Parking lot before the 2.5 km of tunnel. My camper rig was to high for the tunnel. If you can it' s worth to park around the town if you can. Safe place and free. Just ask to some pickup truck to bring you through the tunnel.

We loved this place! Our truck camper is way too tall and having already attempted the offroads from the southern side and ended up turning around again, we would definitely recommend this option if you want to visit Real de Catorce, just make sure you access it from the north. We ended up coming back here for a second stay a week later. Both nights were very peaceful, and catching a ride in someone’s car or pick up for the tunnel is not a problem. The locals are so relaxed, it’s kind of expected. Very cool experience!

I’m camping here now because I don’t think my trailer would fit through the tunnel (3 meters high) and I didn’t want to risk it. There is no one in the parking lot and google maps says it’s “temporarily closed” however the girl that took 50 pesos from me to pass through the tunnel said it was ok if I parked here. I didn’t tell her it was overnight although I can’t imagine it’s an issue. The town is definitely worth a look around, even just the tunnel is pretty cool. I’m on my way to the border or I would spend another day here checking it out! The cobblestone rode to get here isn’t the most fun with a trailer but doable.

Stayed one night. No problems at all. Large area just in front of tunnel entrance.

Nice spot for a night stop. We paid 30 pesos per day (for overnight it's 2 days so 60 pesos). This was on a busy weekend, it might be free in the week. Tunnel is 2.5-2.8m (ish) but don't try it if you're marginal - it gets smaller in the middle! Camionetas take people through for 15 pesos each way. You can also walk through the tunnel but take a torch as the lights aren't always on and it's pitch dark in the middle!
